Atiku Visits Senator Ningi In Abuja

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has paid a solidarity visit to Ningi at his residence in Abuja on Monday.

Atiku said he visited the opposition senator on account of his suspension by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio over allegations of budgetary irregularities and fiscal inflation introduced into the 2024 Appropriation Act without mandatory approval by the National Assembly.

Popular Crossdresser, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju a.k.a. Bobrisky, has filed a notice of appeal against his conviction before a Federal high court in Lagos. In the notice of appeal, Bobrisky asked the Court of Appeal to set aside the six months conviction maximum imprisonment sentence imposed on him and in its place impose a fine of N50,000 on each of the counts against him.

Bobrisky was on Friday, April 12, sentenced to six months imprisonment over naira abuse with no option of fine.

In the appeal, filed by his lawyer, Bobrisky argued that the: “Trial Judge erred in law and facts by his imposition of the maximum sentence of months imprisonment terms against the appellant without option of fine contrary to the provisions of Section 416(2) d of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act of 2015 (“ADCJA”) that prescribed the mandatory guidelines on the trial court on imposition of sentencing after criminal conviction of a first time offender as the appellant.”

The appeal therefore “is seeking an order setting aside the six months maximum imprisonment sentence imposed on the appellant and in its place, an imposition of a fine in the sum of N50,000 on each of the counts against the appellant”.

Recall that on April 4, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had filed six counts of money laundering and abuse of naira against him. On Friday, April 5, Bobrisky was arraigned in court on a six-count charge ranging from abuse of the naira to money laundering. The court, however, struck out the money laundering charges but convicted him after he pleaded guilty to four counts charge of abuse of the naira made against him by the EFCC.

BREAKING: Army dismisses soldiers who robbed Dangote refinery

The Nigerian Army, on Monday, said it has dismissed two soldiers, Corporal Innocent Joseph, and Lance Corporal Jacob Gani, accused of stealing armoured cables at the Dangote refinery on April 14, 2024.

The PUNCH had reported how the soldiers entered the facility in an Acura jeep but were caught at the company’s main gate with 897 armoured cables that had been cut to size.

Osun's Two First Ladies Welcome Remi Tinubu

The two wives of the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, are currently trying to outshine each other, with both of them laying claim to the Office of the First Lady of the state.

The two women, Ngozi and Titilola, have printed different posters that have gone viral with their names and pictures welcoming Nigeria's First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, to the state.

Mrs Tinubu is billed to be in Osogbo, the state capital on Tuesday for the turning of sod of the Alternative High School For Girls at Oke D.O, Ilesha Road.

In her poster, Ngozi Adeleke wrote, "Welcome to the state of living spring. Experience the beauty of Osun State's landscape" and signed off as the First Lady of Osun State.

Titilola Adeleke, in her separate poster, also welcomed Mrs Tinubu to the "Official turning of the sod ceremony of the Alternative High School For Girls at Oke D.O, Ilesha Road, Osogbo"

She also signed off as the First Lady of Osun State.

PHOTOS: Lagos Police Arrest Driver With Pistols, Others

Policemen attached to the Maroko Division of the Lagos State Police Command, in the early hours of Thursday, arrested a driver, Azeez Babatunde, and recovered weapons from his minibus.

The command's Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

He wrote, "At about 5am, anti-crime patrol officers from Maroko Division noticed a minibus do a quick u-turn upon sighting them on Hakeem Dickson Street. The officers went in pursuit.

"Six persons jumped out of the vehicle, running in different directions. The officers caught up with the vehicle and arrested the only person left in the vehicle, the driver, Azeez Babatunde.

"A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two locally-made pistols, two unexpended cartridges, and a knife. Investigation is ongoing."

FCT police arrest corrections officer for shooting fleeing convict

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command said it has arrested an officer of the correctional service identified as Usman Magaji, for shooting one Ibrahim Yahaya, at the Wuse Market in Abuja, on Tuesday, resulting in an outrage in which angry mob burnt shops in the market.

Edo Police Detain Cop For Slapping Lady In Viral Video

The Edo State Police Command has arrested and detained a police sergeant, identified as Sgt. Samuel Imakor, for slapping a lady, Mercy Ajayi, at the police station.

This was disclosed in a statement by the command's Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, on Monday.

The statement read, "Edo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that it’s aware of a video trending of a young woman slapped by a policeman at the police station.

"The erring policeman has been identified as a Police Sergeant, F/NO. 505450 Sgt Samuel Imakor attached to Iruekpen Police Station, Edo State.

"The Police Sergeant, who was arrested and brought to the Commissioner of Police, Edo State on Monday, February 11, 2024 by his Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for debriefing, confessed to the CP that he truly slapped the young woman who he identified as Mercy Ajayi, but later advanced his defence against the young woman on the fact that she slapped him in the vehicle during the process of her arrest, adding that she was arrested in connection with the offence of stealing of human hair from a hotel department.
