++++Nation.......Tinubu tasks ECOWAS Parliament on strong ties, unity
President Bola Tinubu has tasked ECOWAS member states to strengthen ties, and reject forces bent on causing division within the community.
He made the call at the inauguration of the Sixth Legislature of the ECOWAS Parliament, on Thursday in Abuja.
Tinubu, who is the Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, said regional solidarity was imperative to strengthen the bloc’s resilience and effectiveness.
++±+++Nation.......Ningi’s suspension parliamentary decision, Akpabio replies Falana
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has replied Femi Falana’s (SAN) letter over urgent recall of Senator Abdul Ningi (Bauchi central) suspended for three months by the Senate.
Akpabio through his counsel, Umeh Kalu SAN, faulted Falana’s claim that he was solely responsible for the suspension of Ningi.
The Senate President wondered why the decision of the Upper Legislative Chamber to suspend one of its members, would be termed as a “unilateral decision.”
He said that as the Presiding Officer, his roles are clear to the running of the legal mandate of the Senate.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has expressed optimism that Nigeria will overcome its challenges.
Wike gave the assurance on Thursday when the Methodist Prelate, Most Rev. Oliver Aba, visited him in his office.
The Minister said: “I believe by the special grace of God, Nigeria would come out from the turmoil that we are in.
++++++Nation......NERC tasks DisCos on migration of customers
The Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has tasked the electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) on the improvement of supply that will ensure continuous migration of customers from lower band to higher band.
This was contained in the Supplementary Order to the Multi -Year Tariff Order (MYTO) 2024 that the commission released in Abuja.
The order insisted that “The Disco is mandated to continuously ensure upward migration of customers from the lower service Bands to B and A service level in line with the target on improvement in quality of service
++++++Punch.....12 states plan power projects, anger spreads over tariff hike
Lagos, Kano, and 10 other states have concluded plans to start generating power in their respective states in conformity with the Electricity Act 2023.
The PUNCH gathered on Thursday that some of these states had established their electricity market laws and were waiting for the approval of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission to have independent regulatory bodies different from the NERC owned by the Federal Government.
As the states stepped up efforts to generate electricity, the Federal Government’s 240 per cent power tariff hike for consumers in Band A enjoying 20-hour electricity attracted more condemnations on Thursday.

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin on Thursday emerged acting Speaker of the Sixth Legislature of the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Barau, who is the leader of the Nigerian delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament, emerged during the inaugural session of the assembly held in Abuja on Thursday.
The Deputy Senate President, according to a statement by his special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, was first nominated as the 1st Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament by Rep Awaji-Inombek D. Abiante and seconded by Senator Ireti Kingibe.
+++++Nation.......Senate’ll make position known on electricity hike on resumption, says spokesman
The Senate said it will make its position on the 300 per cent increase in electricity tariff for Band A customers known on resumption from its current break.
The Red chamber will resume plenary on Tuesday April 16 from Easter and Sallah break.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Wednesday announced a 300 per cent hike in tariff paid by Band A consumers with immediate effect. It said they are now to pay N225/kwh from N66
+++++Punch.......Gani Adams ready for Igboho’s N500m legal battle, says aide
Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called Sunday Igboho, on Thursday, instituted a case of defamation of character against the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams.
The suit marked I/406/2024 was filed before an Oyo State High Court in Ibadan.
The suit followed an earlier threat by Igboho to sue Adams for allegedly accusing them of plotting an assassination.
When contacted over the latest development on Thursday, Adams’ Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Aderemi, said,”Iba Gani Adams was never served any process. The legal team of Aare Onakakanfo will handle the matter. Immediately we receive court process, there will be a response.”
+++++Vanguard.......Okuama Killings: Army recovers stolen weapons
THE Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Nigerian Army, Major General Nosakhare Ugbo, said yesterday the Army has recovered some of the arms and ammunition snatched from soldiers killed on March 14 at Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State.
This came as Olota community in the state raised the alarm that a resident, Joseph Willie, who the soldiers that raided the community for pilfered arms and ammunition, and killers of their colleagues, tortured, slumped, and died after the military brutality on them.
This is even as the eardrum of one brutalized victim, Reuben Awanriarere, has been impaired, while another villager, Okwagbe Ebirie, cannot walk after the severe beating he received.
Speaking at the Nigerian Army Civil-Military Cooperation Media Chat, first quarter, 2024 at Asaba, capital of Delta State, Ugbo said the search was still ongoing for those involved in the killing of the 17 military personnel.

The Defence Headquarters, on Thursday disclosed the names of terrorist masterminds slain during several operations in the northern region of the country.
The Director Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, revealed the names to journalists during a briefing in Abuja.
The headquarters noted that the terrorist kingpins were killed in separate operations between January and March 2024.
Some of them include: Abu Bilal Minuki (aka Abubakar Mainok) – Head of Is-Al Furqan Province (ISGS and ISWAP); Haruna Isiya Boderi a terrorist who operated along Birnin Gwari Forest in Kaduna State as well as the Abuja Kaduna Highway. He was killed by troops on 21 Feb 24.

In a bid to secure the release of the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo has unveiled plans to engage in peace talks with influential figures across Nigeria.
The pan-Igbo socio-political group said it aims to advocate for forgiveness and cooperation towards Kanu’s freedom.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, revealed the group’s intentions to hold meetings with key stakeholders, including the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu; the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III; and Asari Dokubo.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State on Thursday dismissed the threat of the 15 governorship aspirants vying for the ticket of All Progressives Congress ahead of the April 20 primary election.
Aiyedatiwa spoke with journalists after he submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms at the national secretariat of the APC in Abuja.
The governor will square up against the senator representing Ondo South district, Jimoh Ibrahim; APC chieftain, Olusola Oke; former President of Nigerian Medical Association, Prof. Francis Faduyile, Dr Funmi Waheed-Adekojo and APC National Vice Chairman (South West), Isaac Kekemeke.
Others are Akinfolarin Samuel, Olusoji Ehinlanwo, Okunjimi Odimayo, Adewale Akinterinwa, Olugbenga Edema and Gen. Ohunyeye Olamide, Morayo Lebi, Garvey Oladiran Iyanjan and Ifeoluwa Oyedele.

+++++Punch.......Protesters urge FCTA to warn construction firm against rock blasting.
Residents of the Guzape District, in the Federal Capital Territory, have called on the Federal Government to prevail on construction giants, Gilmor Engineering Limited, to discontinue what they called the incessant blasting of rocks in their settlement.
This is as the residents and property owners alleged that the blasting of explosives by the construction company poses a threat to their lives and properties.
Addressing journalists in Abuja at the construction site of the company on Thursday, the residents led by former Kogi State Deputy Governor, Simon Achuha, said they have no other choice order than to call on the government to come to their aid.

The Presidency explained on Thursday the rationale behind repealing and amending the Student Loan Act, 2023, which was signed into law by President Bola Tinubu.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, signed into law the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill, 2024.
According to a statement by Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, the repealed act faced governance and management challenges, including issues with the purpose of the loans, eligibility criteria, application process, repayment provisions, and loan recovery.

++++++Punch.....Tinubu directs release of funds for vaccines purchase
President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, directed the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Pate, to work with the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, to ensure the release of necessary funds for vaccine procurement.
He assured the Vaccine Alliance, GAVI, of Nigeria’s commitment to fulfilling its outstanding counterpart contributions for routine vaccines for 2023.
This came as GAVI offered Nigeria a $250m grant for local vaccine production.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, announced these directives in a statement on Thursday titled ‘President Tinubu to GAVI CEO: Nigerian manufacturers are capable and ready to produce vaccines.’

Popular cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye aka Bobrisky, has failed to meet the bail conditions granted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Nation reports that the Lagos State Command of the EFCC on Wednesday, detained Bobrisky over the abuse of naira, spraying of naira notes and currency mutilation.
The spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the report of his bail and failure to meet the conditions on Thursday.
+++++++Nation.......We’ll re-arrest fleeing Binance executive soon, IGP assures
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has assured operatives will soon nab the fleeing executive of Binance, Nadeem Anjarwalla, who escaped from detention.
Anjarwalla, strangely escaped from custody on March 22 where he was detained for alleged tax evasion and other offenses.
He was said to have escaped from the Abuja guest house where he and his colleague were detained after guards on duty led him to a nearby mosque for prayers in the spirit of the ongoing Ramadan fast.
Egbetokun, who said this while answering questions at a meeting with top police commanders in Abuja, said the police efforts with INTERPOL will ensure the arrest of the escapee soon
+++++Nation.......Bandits kill five Kaduna hostages, free 51 after collecting ransom
After collecting undisclosed amount, drugs and motorcycles as ransom, bandits who abducted 61 people at Budah Hausa Village in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have reportedly killed five of their victims.
The abductors said to be holding five others in captivity however released 51 of the hostages after spending three weeks in captivity.
A local source told The Nation the bandits demanded additional ransom to release the remaining five hostages.
Member representing Kajuru Constituency in Kaduna Assembly Hon. Usman Danlami Stingo, on Tuesday March 12, confirmed the abduction of 61 persons the area.
++++Punch.......Nine-year-old killed in Ogun transformer explosion
Tragedy struck at Papalanto community in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State on Wednesday following an electric transformer explosion that reportedly killed the son of one Mr Taiwo Nicholas, a resident of the community, and injured his daughter, the deceased sister.
Our correspondent learnt on Thursday that the two victims were nine-year-old Jomiloju Taiwo, who died before he could be taken to the hospital, and seven-year-old Pipeloluwa Taiwo, who had burns from the incident.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident happened at about 1.33pm when the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company was said to have restored power supply to the community shortly after a power outage.
Punch correspondent learnt that not long after the power restoration, a loud noise was heard, which was suspected to have emanated from the electric transformer.

A Police es**rt attached to the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) slumped and died on duty while es**rting the Abuja-Kaduna train from Rigasa (Kaduna state).
Information reaching Tribune Online shows that the police es**rt whose identity is yet to be disclosed did not show any sign of illness when the journey commenced.
An official of the Abuja-Kaduna train service who spoke to our correspondent under the condition of anonymity confirmed the death of the police es**rt.

Twenty-one-year-old Adejimi Adepoju appeared before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Thursday for allegedly using a fake money transfer to buy a mobile phone.
The defendant allegedly defrauded a phone seller on April 3 at New Market, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, when he bought a mobile phone and paid for it with a fake transfer.
Addressing the court, the prosecutor, Sunday Osanyintuyi, alleged that the defendant collected a mobile phone worth N180,000 and paid for the item with a fake money transfer.
