LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF NEHEMIAH PART 4

Nehemiah 1:4 NIV
When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.

Today, we will consider another aspect of Nehemiah's life. Nehemiah was a man of prayer. A praying man is a powerful man. He responded to issues with prayer, not with lamentations or whining. Prayer was his steering wheel not a spare tyre. In the coming weeks we will take a good look at the pattern and frequency/spontaneity of Nehemiah's prayers.

Prayer is an essential aspect of our lives especially if we desire to live purposefully. It is in the place of prayer that instructions are received. It is through prayer that burdens are laid at the feet of Jesus in exchange for peace that surpasses human comprehension.

Don't just mutter prayer, become a "Pray-er".

In conclusion,
"What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer".... Joseph Scriven

Father, help us to make prayer our steering wheel and not a spare tyre in Jesus name, Amen!

LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF NEHEMIAH PART 3

Nehemiah 2:7-9 NIV
I also said to him, “If it pleases the king, may I have letters to the governors of Trans-Euphrates, so that they will provide me safe-conduct until I arrive in Judah? [8] And may I have a letter to Asaph, keeper of the royal park, so he will give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple and for the city wall and for the residence I will occupy?” And because the gracious hand of my God was on me, the king granted my requests. [9] So I went to the governors of Trans-Euphrates and gave them the king's letters. The king had also sent army officers and cavalry with me.

Nehemiah 2:11-12,16-17 NIV
I went to Jerusalem, and after staying there three days [12] I set out during the night with a few others. I had not told anyone what my God had put in my heart to do for Jerusalem. There were no mounts with me except the one I was riding on. [16] The officials did not know where I had gone or what I was doing, because as yet I had said nothing to the Jews or the priests or nobles or officials or any others who would be doing the work. [17] Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace. ”

Nehemiah was a careful planner. He got all the materials he needed with the approval of the king, yet he didn't suddenly swing into action as soon as he returned to Jerusalem. Instead, took his time to familiarize himself with the environment again. Remember, he had been in diaspora all this while. Next, he set out to confirm the things he had been told previously. He decided to see for himself. Nehemiah was not a boss. He was a good leader and at the same time a good team player. After his assessment of the situation, he held a meeting with those that will be involved.

1. He already got the materials needed
2. He didn't brag about his plan to anyone
3. He took time to do a personal assessment of the situation
4. He set a goal
5. He presented the benefit
6. He discussed his idea with those that will be on the team.
7. He encouraged them with his testimony
8. He got the commitment of the people.

In conclusion,
Luke 14:28 NIV
“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won't you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?
Proverbs 16:3 NIV
Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

Stay blessed!

LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF NEHEMIAH PART 2

Nehemiah 2:1-2 NIV
In the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was brought for him, I took the wine and gave it to the king. I had not been sad in his presence before, [2] so the king asked me, “Why does your face look so sad when you are not ill? This can be nothing but sadness of heart.”

Last week, we began to study the life of Nehemiah. The first lesson was about his personality... A person with family ties and genuine concern for the welfare of others.

Today we will look at another aspect of his personality. Nehemiah was a lively person. He was not one with constant mood swings and tantrums. He worked in a palace with other people so one way or another someone was likely to step on his toes and make him 'explode' or 'sulk'... anything to change his countenance. Not Nehemiah.

The king👑 couldn't help but notice that Nehemiah was sad, because Nehemiah had never been sad before. Wow! What a compliment! There and then the king made a diagnosis. It was sadness of the heart. It was not the sadness caused by an offence or inability to make things happen in your own way.

Whereas some persons constantly wear a long face at home and at work. People are always asking you what the problem is and they are tired of asking. Dear reader, even when we are facing a challenge, be of good cheer because we are overcomers and conquerors.

Finally, Apostle Paul said "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" Philippians 4:4 NIV

Stay blessed!

LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF NEHEMIAH PART 1

Nehemiah 1:1-2 NIV
The words of Nehemiah son of Hakaliah:
In the month of Kislev in the twentieth year, while I was in the citadel of Susa, [2] Hanani, one of my brothers, came from Judah with some other men, and I questioned them about the Jewish remnant that had survived the exile, and also about Jerusalem.

Nehemiah was a jew living in diaspora. However he didn't forget his roots and family ties. Little wonder, the first sentence in the book links him to his father, Hakaliah. And in the next verse, his brother is mentioned. This shows that he was someone that took his family serious even when he was not physically present. He must have been an hospitable person such that his brother and some men went to visit him. He was concerned about what was happening back 'home' and it was obvious. He inquired genuinely about the Jewish remnant; not for the sake of status, updates, like or comments. It was for him to intercede and intervene.

Father help us to seek the genuine welfare of others.

IN HIM SERIES PART 10 (FINAL)…. CONTINUE

Colossians 2:6 NIV
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him.

In the past 9 episodes we have been learning who we are in Him (Jesus Christ) and the associated privileges. Forgiveness, Redemption, Blessings, Inheritance, Purpose and Help (Grace and Mercy) are all available for us in Him. Through Him, we have access to the throne of God and even approach confidently.

By receiving Him, we were given the right to be called the sons of God; to be able to refer to God as Father just as Jesus does.

These are all good. But there is a recommendation. It is an admonition to do more. Beyond receiving Christ and mouthing it to others, we must continue to live our lives in Him.
It should not be a one-off experience. Our relationship with Jesus is meant to be on auto-renew. Fresh, growing and glowing. The moment growth stops, one begins to merely exist and life begins to ebb out.

The KJV says “…Walk in Him”: Walking is an active physical exercise. Walking in Christ requires active diligence and discipline to stay consistent.

Continue to live in Him: Never get to a point where you think you got it all sorted and you can handle things without Jesus. Instead, let Christ be at the centre of it all and you’ll see all your life’s puzzles neatly pieced together even though you may not fully understand.

In my opinion, even when you don’t fully understand His directives, just continue….what do you think?

Stay blessed!
