RIVERS YOUTH TAKE CHARGE OF THEIR DESTINY

The Rivers State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), led by Chairman Amb. Chimenem Worlu, recently paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron DSSRS, JP, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Rivers State, at the PDP State Secretariat on Aba Road, Port Harcourt. This visit underscores the youth's commitment to shaping the future of Rivers State under the leadership of Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, who remains the Grand Patron of NYCN in the state.

During the meeting, Amb. Worlu clarified the leadership structure of the NYCN, asserting his position as the duly elected Chairman of the NYCN Rivers State Chapter. He addressed misconceptions about Mr. Chijioke Ihunwo, whose two-term tenure (2015-2023) ended according to the NYCN Constitution but who failed to step down or hold new elections, likewise Mr. Bani. Worlu explained how Rivers youth unified to take charge of their destiny, conducting an election that resulted in his emergence as chairman. “If there is any doubt, we are prepared for a legal resolution,” he stated.

Amb. Worlu also emphasised that the visit was an opportunity to officially welcome the new PDP Rivers State executive led by Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron DSSRS JP and to strengthen the commitment of Rivers youth to the PDP. He stressed that his administration’s top priority is job creation, ensuring that Rivers youth no longer struggle with unemployment.

The NYCN Chairman condemned the inactivity of the Rivers State Ministry of Youth Development, describing the current and previous commissioners as lacking the capacity to drive meaningful change. He argued that with adequate funding and a permanent secretary in place, the ministry should be establishing vocational and industrial centres to equip youth with practical skills. Amb. Worlu recounted that during Wike’s tenure as Governor, the Ministry was allocated 500 million Naira and two plots of land for a new Secretariat. Yet, he said, these resources were allegedly mismanaged with Chijioke Ihunwo’s involvement. “We, the Rivers youth, are deeply disappointed in the ministry’s neglect and demand accountability,” he said.

In addition, Worlu called on the State Governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubura, to fulfil its commitment to the youth by releasing the 10,000 jobs given by the former Governor, now FCT Minister, Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON, GSSRS, POS Africa. He also called for an investigation into the alleged sale of 3,000 job slots allocated to the Ministry of Youth Development, which he claimed were misappropriated with the involvement of Chijioke Ihunwo.

Amb. Worlu reaffirmed the unwavering support of Rivers youth for the state’s House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, DSSRS. As a gesture of appreciation, he presented a portrait to Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron.

Responding on behalf of the PDP, Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron DSSRS JP, State Chairman of the party, ably represented by Deputy Chairman Hon. Nwachukwu John, thanked the youth for their steadfast support and emphasised the PDP’s long-standing influence in Rivers State. “Since 1999, PDP has been a household name in Rivers State,” he said. “NYCN is essential to our society, and your efforts play a crucial role in reducing youth restiveness and other social vices.” He urged the youth to remain law-abiding and resilient, noting that when Wike was governor, he upheld the law, and the same is expected from the current governor.

In a vote of thanks, Dr. Benibo M. George, Secretary of the Party, appreciated the NYCN’s support. He highlighted that youth are essential to every democratic system, stating, “The youth are the driving force of the PDP, both in Rivers State and nationally.” He assured that all concerns raised by the NYCN would be addressed to the State Chairman, who is unavoidably absent.

Present at the meeting were notable party officials, including Legal Adviser Barr. Kingsley Chuku, members of the State Working Committee, NYCN Deputy Chairman Hon. Bright LeggJack, NYCN State PRO Amb. Prince Aleruchi, Vice Chairman of the Elders Forum Hon. Silvanus, and LGA Coordinators.

MEND condemns Fubara, Wike’s feud, vows to protect oil installations in N’Delta

The Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND, has condemned the persistent feud between the governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminialayi Fubara and his predecessor and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike.

MEND said they would not be forced to attack any oil installation in the Niger Delta region following the political crises in the state, adding that they would safeguard government assets in the interest of the nation.

The Spokesman of the body, Jomo Gbomo, in a statement in Port Harcourt. Friday, noted that the group is ready to support security operatives in safeguarding crude oil installations from attacks.

Gbomo condemned threat to crude oil facilities in Niger Delta by some ex-militants and agitators in the region, stressing that the group would not support violence associated with political disputes between Wike, and Fubara.

Gbomo said: “The threat to the economy of the country over a political dispute between two politicians who were allies is unfortunate, more so, both politicians are sons of the Niger Delta. We cannot in the present circumstance be tricked into carrying arms against the Nigerian state on behalf of any of them, not even for any price.

“As an Ijaw son, I know the gains of having an Ijaw man as governor in Rivers an achievement which would not have been possible but for collaboration of other ethnic groups. This healthy collaboration from the various ethnic groups which produced an Ijaw son as governor was spearheaded by the FCT Minister.

“On that note, we shall, therefore, offer full cooperation to the security operatives so as to ensure that individuals or groups constituting threat to smooth crude oil exploration are alongside their sponsors brought to book. If you are going for a revenge, you better dig two graves, one for yourself and one for your enemy, a word is enough for the wise.”

He, however, urged the elders and traditional institutions in the region to genuinely intervene in the lingering political crises in the state.

Read up what government shutdown means.

A government to operate without budget for 11 months, and you turn around to cry fowl that the people will suffer. Who brought the doom on them?

1. Mr. President directed in his intervention that state budget can not be passed by 3 members, that the Gov should represent same to the full Assembly of 27 members for passage.

Gov: Though I signed the resolution but it's not constitutional. I will not comply.

2. Justice Omotosho, held that 3 Members cannot lawfully pass a state budge. Therefore, everything done by the 3 member assembly is null and void. The Governor should send his budget to the legitimate assembly of 27 Members.
Gov: I will not obey the court. The 27 Members do not exist as far as I am concerned. They exist only at my mercy and I won't recognise them.

3. Court of appeal upheld Justice Omotosho's position and ordered the Gov to present his budget before the 27 Members assembly and warned that the courts should not only bark but should bark and bite and where necessary break bones.

Gov: I will not obey the judgement. I have appealed to supreme court and I will wait for supreme court decision and I have filed a stay of ex*****on.

4. Court refused application for stay of decision of the court of appeal and ordered the Governor to obey the judgement of the court of appeal and present his budget before the 27 member assembly
Gov: I will not obey after all the matter of vacation of seats of the 27 members have not been determined. Until the supreme Court decides, I won't deal with them. I will present 2025 budget to 3 member assembly

Federal High Court held that it's an aberration for a state to operate with 3 member assembly and pass a budget even in the face of judgements of court. The CBN should stop further release of allocations to the state until a time that the Governor presents the budget before the proper asembly of 27 Members led by Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule.

Gov: *It's a social media judgement from a biased Court*, and judgement is a r**e on democracy.

By the way, this same Governor unilaterally seized the allocation of 21 out of the 23 Local Goverment Councils in the state for 5 months. That was constitutional and democratic.

The same Gov seized the allocation of the legislature including the Assembly Service Commission and its staff for 1 year now. That too was constitutional and democratic.

Justice is not hinged on sentiment and not public opinion or social media commentary. Justice is hinged on facts and law before the court.

The Governor is holding back the funds of Rivers State, not the court.

A responsible government will obey the judgement of the court, and if not satisfied with it, enter an appeal.

If you know how to pound, pound in the mutter, if you don't know how to, pound on the ground.
