I have always believed that Africans hold the key to solving their own challenges, leveraging technology to create transformative solutions.

The African Writers’ revolution is here.

What does that even mean?

Have you ever been frustrated as a writer because your hard work earns you little to nothing?

Are you a talented, hardworking writer who pours passion into every word but still struggles to make ends meet? You’ve published on Amazon and other platforms, only to see little impact on your bank account.

Here’s the hard truth: Amazon is not designed for African authors. Don’t be swayed by the hype from those who claim you can make a fortune on Amazon. The reality is Amazon doesn’t prioritize African authors. They don't accept our local banks for payment, they take a whopping 60% of your royalties, and they can shut down your account without warning.

Foreign marketplaces like Amazon KDP have long hindered our growth. Have you experienced:

i. Inability to receive direct payments into your local account?
ii. Risky 3rd-party account holders to receive royalties or PayPal frustrations?

As part of its initiative aimed at training young Africans to acquire the digital skills of content creation and filmmaking, MultiChoice has announced applications for the 2025 edition of the MultiChoice Talent Factory Academy Program.

The MultiChoice Talent Factory Academy is a 12-month program that allows participants to learn and interact with experts and leaders in TV and film while acquiring valuable skills in directing, producing, cinematography, commissioning, and several other skills.

To be eligible for the MultiChoice Talent Factory Program

The applicant must be between the ages of 21 and 26 years.

The applicant must have obtained a university or college qualification, preferably in the film industry.

The applicant must be able to demonstrate a willingness to acquire skills in producing, directing, cinematography, commissioning, and direction.

The documents required for application include

CV—not more than 2 pages

Personal motivation letter of not more than 200-300 words (why should you be chosen)

Copy of Identification

Copy of high school certificate

Copy of college/university qualification

Life is about building your vision. it’s about being an entrepreneur. It’s not about just existing within the world, but about helping to shape it. Is that an easy process?

Is it straightforward to build your vision into reality? Well, the real answer is no. (Did you really expect it to be yes?)

But that doesn’t mean that achieving something enormous is not possible – and it sure as hell does not mean that you shouldn’t try.

It’s worth remembering that the world was created by people just like you.

Take the story of Brian Acton. In May 2009, he applied for a job at Twitter. He was turned down.

Later that year he applied for a job at Facebook. He was rejected. Things didn’t look too bright.

Later that year he partnered with a friend, Jan Koum, and founded a company. Not even five years later, in February 2014, that company was acquired for a record $16 billion. Funnily enough the company that acquired them was Facebook.

Their company was WhatsApp.

Great entrepreneurs are the people who never say die, who are never defeated. They are the ones who persevere – the successful ones are the ones who persevere wisely.

It’s about understanding what isn’t working and adjusting, tuning and changing – and finding a way that does work. It’s not about forcing things.

it’s about finding out what works.
