Health Sector: FG Working Towards Creating Enabling Environment


The Federal Government speaking through Dr Ali Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, says it is working towards creating conducive environment for workers in the healthcare sector.

Pate stated this on Thursday during the maiden induction of 25 graduating medical doctors of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi.

Represented by Yakubu Abdullahi, his Senior Special Adviser on Unlocking Healthcare Value Chain, Pate said the governnent would provide enabling environment for health practitioners to stem ‘Japa’ syndrome.

According to Pate, when these efforts begin to yield results, it will encourage those who already left the country to come back home to practice and further enhance the sector.

Family Announces Burial Arrangements of Ex-Reps Member, Cairo Ojougboh



The family of former member of the Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, has announced his burial arrangements.

The late Ojougboh, who died on February 7, 2024, aged 64, will be buried on Friday, April 19, 2024 at the Ojougboh Family Compound in Agbor, Delta State.

The Internment will take place immediately after a Funeral Mass, scheduled to start by 10:00a.m. at the St. John The Baptist Catholic Church along Old Lagos/Asaba Road, Agbor in Delta State.

Reception will take place the same day at the Open Ground, Opposite Central Hospital, Agbor.

The late Ojougboh was an illustrious son of Delta State. He was a grassroot politician who has contributed immensely to the development of Delta State and the nation at large. He was a prominent, fearless and outspoken politician without prejudice to tribe or tongue.

Benue: Police Neutralise 2 Notorious Bandits

The Police Command in Benue has neutralised two notorious bandits in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area (LGA) of the State and recovered arms.

This was contained in a statement on Wednesday in Makurdi, by the State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Sewuese Anene.

Anene said in the statement that the Police Command had acted on information about the regrouping of bandits at De-Mtsa village, Kastina-Ala, for nefarious activities.

According to him, a team from Operation Zenda Joint Task Force (JTF), led by its Commander, ASP Felix Nomiyugh, swiftly invaded the area and neutralised two of the bandits during heavy gun battle.

“Upon arrival at the scene, on March 27, the bandits engaged the police in a gun duel, but a superior fire power from the operatives dislodged them.

Reps Pledge to Recover 2 Govt. Helicopters Sold to Private Individuals


The Chairman, House of Reps Committee on Public Assets, Rep. Ademorin Kuye, has vowed that the two Bell Helicopters, Bell 206L4 BZB and Bell M2061- L4, belonging to the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, sold to private individuals will be recovered.

Kuye said this at the investigative hearing on the sale of the two helicopters in Abuja on Thursday.

Kuye expressed concern over the sale of the two helicopters to private individuals, when the college was left with no helicopter for training.

The committee also questioned the process leading to the sale of the helicopters as security agencies, including Nigerian Air Force, Navy and the Police, indicated interest to purchase them.

The security agencies were, however, denied by the management of the NCAT.

Baltimore Bridge Collapse: Bodies of 2 Victims Recovered
Authorities on Wednesday afternoon said that bodies of two of the workers who went missing when a bridge in Baltimore collapsed after a cargo ship crashed into it have been recovered.

A cargo ship rammed into one of the support pillars of the four-lane, 2.5-kilometre-long Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, about 62 kilometres north-east of Washington, around 1:30 am (0530 GMT) on Tuesday morning, causing it to collapse.

Maryland State Police’s Roland Butler said that on Wednesday at about 10 am divers located a red pick up truck about 7 metres deep and found the bodies of two victims trapped in the vehicle.

They were identified a 35-year-old Mexico national and a 26-year-old Guatemala national.

Butler also said that authorities would be moving from recovery mode to a salvage operation in a press conference on Wednesday evening

Reps Move to Halt NASU’s Planned Strike, Summon Minister


The House of Representatives has resolved to halt the planned strike by the Non-Academic Staff of Universities (NASU), with move to intervene in the dispute between the Federal Government and staff of Nigerian Universities.

Rep. Abubakar Fulata, Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on University Education made the move at a meeting with the officials of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), NASU in Abuja on Thursday.

Others at the meeting include the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) as well as other relevant stakeholders.

Mr Mohammed Ibrahim, SSANU President who also spoke on behalf of NASU saud that the unions embarked on one week warning strike recently because of the non payment of their withheld salary in 2022.

INEC Disowns Anambra LP Convention


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned Wednesday’s Labour Party (LP) National Convention in Anambra.

Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, said this when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday.

Oyekanmi said that the conduct of the convention was not monitored by INEC, declining to state further why it was not monitored.

NAN however, reports that the LP had on Tuesday shifted the convention from Umuahia in Abia to Nnewi, Anambra State.

Eight Persons Declare Wanted for Alleged Killing of Soldiers in Delta

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has declared eight persons wanted in connection with the gruesome murder of 17 officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army on March 14 in Okuama community in Delta.

The wanted persons include seven men and one woman.

They were identified as Akevwru Daniel Omotegbono (Amagbem); Prof. Ekpokpo Arthur; Andaowei Denis Bakriri; Igoli Ebi; Akata Malawa David; Sinclair Okili; Clement Ikolo Oghenerukvwe and Reuben Baru.

Unroadworthy Vehicles: LASG Impounds 50 Rickety Commercial Bus
The Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) has impounded 50 rickety commercial bus during a comprehensive enforcement operation targeting unroadworthy vehicles across the state.

The Director, Vehicle Inspection Services, Mr Akin- George Fashola, said this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.

Gov. Alia Denies Calling for Ganduje’s Resignation

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia has denied calling for the resignation of Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman.

Benin City to Host Ardova Handball Premier League – Official


The Media Assistant, Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Cosmos Chukwuemeka, on Wednesday said Benin City will host the first phase of the Ardova Handball Premier in April 2024m



Chukwuemeka, in a statement in Lagos, also said that the two-week event would begin April 28 and end May 11 in Edo.

He said the event would be the biggest top tier handball league in Nigeria.

Also, Mr.Almu Lambu, the Secretary-General of the HFN urged the teams to ensure the conclusion of their players registration ahead of the league.

The Ardova Handball Premier League consists 22 teams (12 male and 10 female) and runs in two phases.

The league, which is in its 7th season, is in its second year of sponsorship with Ardova PLC.

Ex-MAN Chairman Commends CBN Efforts Towards Naira Recovery

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been lauded by a former Chairman of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) Ogun Chapter, Dr Wale Adegbite, for making emphatic efforts towards the recovery of Naira.

Adegbite said this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ota, Ogun.

NAN reports that in Abuja, the Naira exchanged for as high as N1,900 to a dollar in February.

NSCDC Apprehends 5 for Allegedly Stealing 500,000 Litres of Crude Oil


Five suspected oil thieves have been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly siphoning 500,000 litres of crude oil from pipelines in Rivers.

The Spokesman, NSCDC command in Rivers, SC Olufemi Ayodele, announced this in a statement released to newsmen in Port Harcourt.

He revealed that the breakthrough occurred during a successful raid on 10 illegal bunkering sites at Odagwa community in Etche, Rivers.

”The estimated 500,000 litres of crude oil were stored in about 50 illegally constructed reservoirs which were found in about 10 illegal refineries.

”The discovery resulted from credible intelligence that prompted our special intelligence squad to take action and uncovered 10 illegal refineries in Odawa forest.

”Five suspects were caught in the act of illegally refining crude oil within the illegal bunkering sites,” he said.

Insurgency: Reps Commend CDS, Other Security Agencies Over Proactive Efforts

Rivers: NAF Destroys Several Illegal Refining Sites


The Air Component of the ”Operation Delta Safe” of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), has destroyed several illegal oil refining sites and barges laden with stolen crude oil products across Rivers State.

This is contained in a statement by the Director, Public Relations and Information (NAF), AVM Edward Gabkwet, on Wednesday in Abuja.

Gabkwet said the sites and barges destroyed were discovered between Monday and Tuesday at Bille, Dariama, Elem Bekinkiri, Temakiri, Opumakiri and Degema all in Rivers.

He said a barge filled with illegal refined products was observed meandering through the creeks at Bille, and subsequently struck.

According to him, at Dariama and Tumakiri, active illegal refining sites with reservoirs and cooking pots were identified and subsequently engaged and destroyed.

Reps Investigate Alleged Certificate Racketeering by Officials MDAs


The House of Representatives has began investigation into alleged certificate racketeering by some officials of Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies involved in alleged certificate racketeering with Nigerian students.

Rep. Abubakar Fulata, Chairman, Joint Committee on Certificate Racketeering vowed to confront such menace in the tertiary institutions during its sitting in Abuja.

He said certificate racketeering could cripple health care system and various sectors of the economy if allowed to go unchecked.

Fulata said the House mandated its Committees on University Education, Interior Foreign Affairs and Youths Development to investigate the matter and report back.

“This has been a burning issue in both public and private institutions where there are seemingly less observance of rules, regulations, processes, quality assurance among others.

The Chairman of the Committee of Chief Information Security Officers of Nigerian Financial Institutions (CCISONFI), Mr. Festus Amede, has identified Data Minimization Principles, User Consent and Control, as well as Compliance with Privacy Regulations as important elements in protecting privacy in payments.

Amede who was represented by an executive member of CCISONFI, Mr. Olusola Odediran (also, the Chief Information Security Officer) Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), spoke during his keynote presentation at the maiden edition of Payments Forum Nigeria (PAFON 1.0) held at Oriental Hotel, Lagos on Thursday.

Arik Air Bags Best Sustainable Airline Company Award

Arik Air has bagged the award for Best Sustainable Airline of the Year, 2024 by the World Quality Alliance and Quality Standards Journal.

Mr Adebanji Ola, the airline’s Public Relations and Communications Manager disclosed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos.

Ola said the award was presented to the airline at the National Quality Summit 2024 held on March 22 in Abuja.

According to Ola, the Award General Committee of the National Quality Order of Merit, said the award was meant to celebrate leadership innovations and creativity in quality management.

A’Ibom: Police Neutralise 3 Suspected Armed Robbers


The Police Command in Akwa Ibom says it has neutralised three suspected armed robbers and arrested one while robbing at NDDC Hall/National Museum, Ikot Inyang village in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the state.

This is contained in a statement issued by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Odiko Macdon, and made available to newsmen in Uyo on Tuesday.

Macdon said that on March 20, the operatives of the command’s Crack Team of Ikot Ekpene Division, responded to a distress call, engaged the armed robbers, numbering about 10 and neutralised three in a gun duel.

He said that a locally-made pistol, one expanded, one live cartridges and vandalised wire cables, among other items, were recovered from them.
