EFFECTIVE EVANGELISM - BRIEF OF HOW TO EFFECTIVELY EVANGELIZE - important for all believers

WHAT IS EVANGELISM?

Evangelism is simply the act of getting men (women and children inclusive) born again and saved by acknowledging that Jesus died and resurrected for them, thereby making them righteous and qualified for eternal life. Any activity that gears towards getting a person/group of persons to know and accept the man Jesus is evangelism.

EVANGELISM IS A COMMAND FROM JESUS TO ALL BELIEVERS

Mark 16:15-16
King James Version
15 And he (Jesus) said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

HOW CAN BELIEVERS EFFECTIVELY EVANGELIZE?

For believers to effectively evangelize, we must understand and practice this three stages to effective evangelism. Evangelism is beyond just talking to a person about Jesus. To effectively evangelize, we must answer the question of what happens before, during and after evangelism;

STAGE 1; PRE-EVANGELISM

These are all the activities that a believer must carry out before evangelism. Pre-evangelism is actually the biblical concept for how a believer should live his life and prepares himself to be the message he preaches, by reflecting the person and image of the man Jesus.

Before you go talk to someone about Jesus, make sure you are living the life, your character, attitude and everything should reflect that of Christ Jesus. This doesn't mean you should be perfect to do that, no. It just means that you have to be constantly ready and in position to talk to someone about Jesus. Pre-evangelism focuses on the evangelist more than the one evangelized to.

Secondarily, pre-evangelism is the activities carried out before real term evangelism.
1. Gather your materials, jotters, pens, etc. You do this when going on a soul winning mission. Please note, a believer can evangelize anywhere and at any time, however, it's important to do these when purposely going out with the solo mission to evangelize.
2. Brush your mouth, clean up, take a shower, dress up decently and apply some fragrance to smell good. This should be a lifestyle, however, be more intensioner when going out purposely to evangelize.
3. Get some materials for distribution; tracts, flyers, books, gifts, etc.
4. Be in the right mood; avoid tension, anger, rage and bitterness, be polite and simple. Avoid aiming to speak big and heavy. Stay simple and matured.

STAGE 2; EVANGELISM

This is when the believer engages a person or group of persons in talking to them about Jesus with the intension of getting them saved.
Note; with the intension of getting them saved. When you talk to people about Christ, do it with the intension of getting them born again. This is what evangelism is.

1. Keep the conversation simple and easy. Avoid showing off and trying to impress.
2. Communicate and exemplify. Quote the Bible and not philosophers nor your pastor.
3. Avoid delving into people's privacy and unnecessary arguments, except the Lord gives you a word of prophecy to edify the one you are evangelizing to.
4. Give room for questions and provide simple answers with references to the scripture.
5. Show an attitude of love, not arrogance. Avoid forceful evangelism, it is unscriptural to try to preach to people forcefully. leave those who will not give you their attention.

STAGE 3; POST EVANGELISM

These are all the activities that must be carried out after an evangelism exercise.

Primary activities; after speaking to the people about Christ,
1. Invite them to receive Jesus as their Lord and personal savior.
2. Attend to their questions if time permits you. Answer questions that are necessary and stay out of arguments.
3. Lead those who accept Jesus to Christ and say a simple prayer of salvation to them and declare them born again.
4. Write down the names of those who received Christ, their addresses and contacts. Also take down their prayer requests if any. This shows that you care for them.
5. Say goodbye to them and leave the scene.
Secondary activities;
1. Find time to call and send them text messages.
2. Create time to regularly check up on them and know how they are doing.
3. Bring them gifts as much as you can afford.
4. Schedule time where you or members of your team visit and have fellowship with them.
5. Work on planting them in a Bible believing church.

Conclusion;
Most often, we just talk to people about Jesus and that ends it. Well, that could be evangelism, but it is not effective evangelism. Effective evangelism is all the activities that must be brought together to win a soul and keep the soul saved, established and growing in the Lord.

Evangelism is beyond just talking to a person or group of persons about Jesus, it is what we do before, during and after evangelism - preparation to win a soul/souls, winning souls and establishing souls.
