EEDI FESTIVAL IN IPETUMODU

Edi festival is one of those festivals used in Ipetumodu for preventive, curative, protective and productive
purposes. This is made possible in part by the art and artifacts used in the proclamation during the festivities.

Artistic displays carry the sacred power to bring spiritual things existence, and festival is a crucial concept of life-force that exists in forms,manifestations and in varying amounts at the foundation of Yoruba philosophy and social organization.

It is confirmed that festivals are institutionalized. Aspects of people’s culture. It's further adds that they are aspects of social relationship which continue from
time to time to play important roles in the society.

Festivals are described as rituals
which recur at regular intervals, which have as their purpose the expression of beliefs held by a particular sets of people,
communities, regions and territories.

The great deities of the town such as Obatala, Oluorogbo Ilase, Olokun, Ogun, Moremi and others are still
being worshipped in festivals. Among such festivals are Olokun and Edi the last of which is held annually to
commemorate a courageous woman called Moremi.

Moremi was a very beautiful woman, supposedly the wife of King Oranmiyan, who was later inherited by Alayemore when he succeeded to the throne after Oranmiya’s death.

Moremi was a great patriot who put her life on line to save the people of
Ile-Ife (the place where Edi festival originated) from the incessant raids of an outside group, the “Ugbos”.

Early in the history of Ile-Ife the Ugbos used to frighten its people in the dress of knitted raffia palm threads that covered their heads, faces and feet to give them the appearance of spirits. Accordingly to Ife oral history,
it was customarily necessary for the Ugbos to visit Ojafe, a market in Ile-Ife, annually for the worshipping of
their deities known as Aje, Kori, Esa-Oja, in the dead of the right.

It's another EEDI festival in Ipetumodu, Origbo which its traditional rite and celebration had already begun.

May the Ancestors open peace and prosperous eyes to the land.

May Olodumare bless the Apetumodu

Ile Ajiga is another royal compound that constituted Ipetumodu.

Elebiti Ayaledoye was crowned as the first Apetumodu from this compound and he ruled from 1765 - 1789

Folashade Ajiga was equally crowned and ruled from 1821 - 1842

Oba Samson Oyebode was also a crowned prince from the royal Ajiga, and he ruled from 1947 - 1980.

The people from this compound are known for their fine nobility and good characters. They occupied crucial position in the world.

Ile Aaje is one the customary rulling houses that constituted Ipetumodu.

As a matter of fact, the traditional significant of Aaje compound people in Origbo is a very crucial talk point when it comes to community's engagement.

Aaje Oba Afarajapa; with the literary meaning: We shall be crowned king.

Ojo Awelorun (the ancestral father) was crowned as the 12th Apetumodu and he ruled between 1735 - 1747. Oba. Solomon Oleyede (an Aaje prince) was equally crowned as 24th Apetumodu from 1971 - 1980.

Every original Aaje born son has the traditional entitlement to Ancestral throne of Apetumodu.

Aaje people are know for their hardworking, humility and being respectful. The Sons and Daughters of Aaje occupied very great position in all endeavors throughout the world.

GBOYEGA OYETOLA; FIRST MINISTER OF MARINE AND BLUE ECONOMY; FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA

Adegboyega Oyetola was born in Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State 29 September 1954. He had his secondary education at Ifeoluwa Grammar School, Osogbo and graduated in 1972.

He moved to University of Lagos and graduated with a Bachelor of Science honours degree in Insurance in 1978. He had his one year National Youth Service Corps in Potiskum, Yobe State, where he lectured at the Staff Training Centre. He obtained his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Lagos in 1990.

In 1980, Oyetola joined Leadway assurance company Limited as an area manager and worked till 1987 when he moved to join Crusader Insurance Company Limited as Underwriting Manager.

In 1990, he joined Alliance and General Insurance as Technical Controller and served in that capacity until 1991 when he left the organisation to start his own company, Silvertrust Insurance Brokers Limited. He was managing director since its founding until 2011 when he was appointed as Chief of staff to Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola.

He served as Executive Vice Chairman, Paragon Group of Companies. He was also Chairman of Ebony Properties Limited. He had been a Director of Pyramid Securities Limited. He is an Associate Member, Chartered Insurance Institute in Lonsy and Nigeria. He is also a member of the Nigeria Institute of Management.

He was a member of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), and has been in the party through its metamorphosis to Action Congress (AC), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and now the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In July 2018, he contested along side with the numerous chieftains of All Progressive Congress for the part's gubernatorial candidacy.Oyetola was declared the winner of September 22 2018 gubernatorial election in Osun state by Independent Electoral Commission.

He was sworn in to office on 27 November. He ruled the affairs and control the state administration for four years. He lost his re election to to the current governor of the current governor of the state.

Egungun festival is an ancient festival celebrated by people of Ipetumodu town, Origbo in Osun state Southwestern Nigeria. This annual festival usually takes place early August to pay homage and show respect to the Royal Majesty, the Apetumodu.

It is one of the most spiritual and glamorous festivals celebrated that attracts large population of people. It is a festival whereby different cultural Egungun groups, indigenes and associates far and near parades at the front of the king's palace on the "IGBAJA" day being referred as sacred in Yoruba oral history.

"IGBAJA" which means taken dominance in Yoruba language is usually celebrated with Pomp and pageantry by about thousands of people from different parts of the all the nook and crannies of Origbo Meje Communities and the rest local environs especially those from Yoruba origin.

Egungun festival which was the main traditional festival among the Origbos, later abolished in some of the Origbo towns due to the acceptance of the modern religions.During the reign of some kings in Origbo kingdom, Egungun is identified as the major traditional festival in their various towns with a superb and full practice religion without any barrier, obstruction and fear of any persecution due to the efforts and unions coupled with the endorsement of Origbo traditional council.

Oju Oja, the market square is a gathering avenue where all and sundry gathered themselves to feed their eyes with different styles of dances and dramas performed by different kinds of masquerades. The Apetumodu in council is always on his full traditional ragaelia for his traditional seclusion responsibilities.

Egungun chiefs(Alagbas) are the forerunner of their masquerade in different compounds take the lead and directions of the masquerade in charge.The role of any Egungun birthed its character which will metamorphosed maybe the masquerade is friendly or hostile.

It's another edition of the IGBAJA day in Ipetumodu.
