SOCIAL MEDIA DILEMMA
In this Generation, everyone should be used to the name Social media by now... It has become a place most people can't do without.
What is Social media???
Social media are interactive digitally-mediated technologies that facilitate the creation or sharing/exchange of information, ideas, career interests, and other forms of expression via virtual communities and networks.
Dilemma
a situation in which a difficult choice has to be made between two or more alternatives, especially ones that are equally undesirable.
In other words, Social media dilemma explains the choices that has to be made everyday and from time to time on social media handles that either affect us and even the society in a positive and negative way.
Reminiscicing....Back in secondary school days during debate sessions, we can either support or oppose the motion that says "social media is Good". Looking at the advancement in technology, it has made it easy to reach our far away friends and families, E.g during the long lockdown, it has helped Businesses to survive and thrive, churches and individuals have taken advantage of it as a platform for reaching lost souls(Salvation), it has been a place to acquire knowledge and get informations with ease and speed.
On the other hand, some Believe that it has done more harm than good to us as individuals, even societies by exposing us to the dangers on it examples include, violence, pornographic videos (morally), cyber crimes and lots more.
Don't we think all these boils down to our usage of it?
There's a saying and I quote that "when the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable".
Everyone needs to know the right usage of it, to know what's offensive and what's helpful to people, what contributes morally or what leads to moral bankruptcy which destroys our society.
But, the truth of it is we can use it rightly and we can also use it wrongly, it all depends on individuals. But, let's not forget that individuals makes up families, families makes up the society, society makes up the community, community makes up each states we have in a country, states makes up a country, countries makes up a continent and continents makes up our world.
To make our world a better place we must make our social lives better by focusing and investing so much on that which will do us Good both as individuals and as a society..
How effective are you using the social media platforms?. I believe this is a question we must all ask ourselves.
