Gombe State Youth Task Force on Covid-19

10th May, 2020.

Kwami Local Government was our host community last week.
We went round the LGA with some youth advocates that are indigenous citizens and that eases the work.

They have acknowledged that the virus is real and what bothers them is government negligence to support people with the Protective Materials since they are not available in the markets to buy.

We have given them assurances that government has made commitment to provide 1 million face masks for the masses and they will surely reach them.

Kudos to the people of Kwami for their cooperation and understanding.

Gombe State Youth Task Force on Covid-19- Y/Deba

9th May, 2020.

Yesterday, we went to Yamaltu Deba in furtherance of our assignment of community sensitisation.

Some of the people were enlightened even before our visit and they are taking preventive measures of Social Distancing, Regular Hand Washing and Proper reporting of returnees to the relevant authorities.

However, they made an appeal that the government should provide for them the Face Masks as an act of encouragement to abide by the rules.

Questions asked were around the issue of palliatives and their inability to go village markets for their local businesses.

We promised to forward their concerns to the relevant authorities for further actions.

Yesterday we took our advocacy down to Akko Local Government and it was a huge success.
People asked several questions mostly about non isolation of suspected cases that turn out to be positive after testing.
We notified them that government has been able to address that and henceforth any suspected cases most be in self isolation before the return of their test results.

2nd May, 2020.

Yesterday the Gombe State Youth Task Force on Covid-19 took down its advocacy on strict compliance to the state government's directive to Tongo town of Funakaye Local Government.

There the district head welcome and appreciates the gesture and promised to continuously abide by the rules set up by the government during this period and beyond.

We further went for public enlightenment and sensitisation.

Yesterday, our team splits into two one of which was for public enlightenment in the area where the other team was working with World Health Organization (WHO) and State Ministry of Health staff on contact tracing.

As at 11:25 pm 22nd April, 2020 one of the first five cases recorded was a transit passenger and he has been transported back home.

We now have four (4) confirmed cases in Gombe state and zero new cases in about 48 hours.

GOMBE STATE YOUTH TASK FORCE ON COVID-19

Good afternoon Gombe state,

It is not in our plan to begin publishing on this platform with such a scary story, but we are left with no option because it is our present assignment.

We are out today for CONTACT TRACING where two positive cases of Covid-19 were traced.

The contact persons are totally noncompliant and acting aggressive because of their nonbelief in the Pandemic.

There is a serious need of more public enlightenment especially our rural communities.
