#ThisDayInHistory March 28 🎯 🇬🇭
On this day in 1900, the War of the Golden Stool, also known as the Yaa Asantewaa War, the last in a series of wars between the British and the Asante in the Gold Coast (modern day Ghana🇬🇭), was triggered by the colonial governor, Frederick M. Hodgson, demanding to sit on the Golden Stool.
This stool is a sacred symbol of Asante strength and independence, past, present and future.
A certain female of valor Yaa Asantewaa, who was ruler of the Asante kingdom at the time, led the resistance against the British's high handedness.
Though the British were eventually able to overcome Yaa Asantewaa's army, annexing the Gold Coast colony on 1st January 1902, they never gained the sacred Golden Stool.
Yaa Asantewaa was eventually banished to the Seychelles where she died on 17th October 1921.
