Did you know that one of the most famous sports personalities in the world is an Esa-Oke indigene? Bet you didn't know. But he is. His name is Israel Adesanya. His mother was born in Esa Oke. He is a celebrity in New Zealand, where he lives. He is rich and famous because he is one of the most successful fighters in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) of the American Mutual Arts (MMA). You can google his name to find out more about him. Israel Adesanya visited his mother's hometown of Esa Oke this week. He was welcomed into town by cheering drummers and singers, led by the Owamiran of Esa-Oke, HRM Oba Adeyemi Adeniran. Google lists his hometown as Lagos, but we know he's our son in Esa Oke.

ERI has done it again!!! The great Esa Oke Esa-Oke Renewal Initiative, fondly known as ERI, has completed a 15-million Naira Solar Power Light Project, which is now beautifully illuminating the campus of the Osun State College of Technology (OSCOTECH) in our town. The commissioning and official handover ceremony of the project was on Wednesday 21 August 2024 at OSCOTECH. Funding for this very important and useful project was raised by ERI from among its members and other philanthropic individuals and organizations. Thanks to ERI, There will now be lighting at OSCOTECH, NEPA or no NEPA.

Had a long tete-a-tete, to catch up on old times with my friend Ambassador Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, who recently concluded his term as Chief of Staff to General Muhammadu Buhari, who recently concluded his term as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We had dinner near the Nigeria House in New York City. President Ibrahim Babangida released the funds for the building; Ambassador Gambari managed its construction and completion, whereupon President Ernest Shonekan inaugurated it. At dinner, just the two of us, no Presidents - retired or otherwise. Just Ibrahim (the one whose last name was not Babangida), and me. We talked and talked. Then we talked some more, as old friends do. As we used to do regularly when we both worked in various capacities for the United Nations.

The Community/Micro Bank at Esa Oke needs to be upgraded and mainstreamed urgently, now that there is confirmation that the departure of Polaris Bank from the town is permanent. It is intolerable that Esa Oke residents must travel out of town - to Ilesa and/or Ijebu Jesa - for their routine, ordinary bank transactions. Those responsible for the Community/Micro Bank (in OSCOTECH and elsewhere) should now widely publicize the availability, readiness, and capability of their Bank to handle all the services previously carried out in the town by the departed Polaris Bank. This is a major, mutually beneficial opportunity for the Community/Micro Bank to expand its business and services for Esa Oke residents.
Thanks for messaging us. We try to be as responsive as possible. We'll get back to you soon.

Does this make any sense: There are proposals in the Nigerian legislature in Abuja to create 63 new Universities, whereas the nation already has 49 Federal Universities, 59 State Universities, 111 private Universities, 70 State-owned colleges of health,17 private colleges of health, and 219 colleges of Education - and such already established institutions are seriously underfunded and under-resourced, with thousands and thousands of graduates unemployed. What are your views?

Dear Sir/Ma

APPEAL FOR PATRONAGE OF POLARIS BANK, ESA-OKE BRANCH. We bring greetings to you on behalf of Esa-Oke renewal Initiative (ERI).

ERI is a Group of sons and daughters of Esa-Oke at home and in diaspora incorporated in 2011 to galvanise developmental efforts among members of the community. The group acts as catalyst for mobilising educating, and facilitating social, economic, and physical developments of the town. The group is comprised of cross-section of elites in the public service, business, private practice, and employment seeking to spend and be spent for development of Esa-Oke.

The unfortunate news of the temporary closure of the Polaris Bank, Esa-Oke Branch has been brought to our attention by the Oba-in-Council and the Esa-Oke Council of Elders for necessary action. The temporary closure over seven months ago was predicated on the challenges of low patronage and insecurity. You will recall that the above-mentioned Bank was established over 40 years ago to facilitate

banking service in the community, Over the years, it remained the only banking facility serving

Esa-Oke and its neighbouring communities of over 20,000 people. Apart from this large

population, the bank is also serving the major economic activity centres of Osun State College

of Technology and Adonis College of Health Technology in the town, it is needless to say that

many other small and medium scale entrepreneurs only rely on the Bank for financial service.

The purpose of this letter is to call your attention to the temporary closure and appeal to your organisation to consider the choice of the Bank in Esa-Oke for your banking transactions. Apart from its proximity to you, it will help to meet its targets and running costs. In addition, we wish to appeal to you to encourage your staff/members to patronise the Bank to prevent its permanent closure and the resultant hardships and economic loss to Esa-Oke community. Further inquiries and clarifications may be directed to the undersigned please.

Accept the assurances of our highest regards.

Yours sincerely, For & on behalf of Esa-Oke Renewal Initiatives

Wumi Adeniyi Chairman ERI

Tpl. Ayo Adediran Board of Trustees (ERI)
Niyi Omotoso (Publicity Secretary)

Meeting of the Council of Elders held on Friday February 4,2022

Decision Extracts .............................
1 The Council met in the EsaOke Town hall immediately after the lying in state ceremonies in honour of the late Sir Adedeji Gegeleso

2 The Council deliberated extensively on the prevailing situation in the town vis a vis it's negative impact on the towns development.

3 The Council noted that the challenges facing the town are multi faceted and deeply connected with the attitude of the palace , politics and the inactivity of the EsaOke Central Union

4 The Council agreed that the community must have a clearly defined purpose and avoid looking at issues from
the point of view of politics

5 The Council noted with dismay the obvious lack of unity among the traditional chiefs and the inability of the royal father to bring them together . The Council is worried that no meaningful development can take place in such a confused situation.

6 The Council felt uncomfortable that chieftaincy disputes have sharply divided the town while noting that highly placed and prominent Indigenes who have the zeal and wherewithal to spearhead the development agenda of the town are silently 'protesting' the unfortunate situation

7 The Council opined that we must forge on to redeem the situation and launch EsaOke on the glorious path of development again.

7 Consequently, the Council resolved as follows:
a. That a new organ to drive the towns development agenda be created and it was so created and named ESA-OKE DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION (EDA)
b The Council mandated Mr Ayo Adediran to take immediate steps to get the new organisation registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission , Abuja

8 The Council constituted a 7 man Committee to meet the Owa-Omiran - in- Council for dialogue on the EsaOke situation

9 The Council applauded the author of ORIKI IDILE KOOKAN NI ILU ESA-OKE' and approved to support the author by launching the book in Easter 2022
Mr Tunde Faseyi was appointed to head the committee for the launching

10 The Council agreed in principle that EsaOke Today magazine published by Dr Edward Omotoso be revisited for continued production and recommended that Pastor Akin Onifade be made the editor

11 The Council mandated Mr Ayo Adediran to liaise with the Asiwaju of EsaOke, Chief Dosu Fatokun to brief him on the new development initiatives of the Council

Finally, the Ag President ,Chief Engr J F A Babajide sends fraternal greetings to all EsaOke Indigenes at home and diaspora and wishes them well in their various endeavours

Thank you
Akinwumi Onifade JP
Ag Secretary
