Let's look at relationship/marriage from another perspective.
As a Chelsea fan, I can't deny the fact that Real Madrid is a bigger club than Chelsea.
It's the fact that both historically and presently, Real Madrid is a thousand miles ahead of Chelsea, and the way things are, they fit get better future than Chelsea.
However, I am not going to become a Real Madrid fan because they're bigger and better than Chelsea.
As at the time I started supporting Chelsea, Real Madrid was still the bigger club but Barcelona was the biggest club then with a squad that had Ronaldinho, Messi, Henry, Eto'o, Ibrahimovic, Iniesta, Xavi and Puyol.
They were on fire. But I chose Chelsea. It should be noted that at that time, Man United was also a bigger club. Arsenal was also Golden.
But I fell in love with Chelsea. It started with the number of black players they had, then Drogba's big game goals and when they signed Mikel, my love for Chelsea was sealed.
Those who watched Mikel at that under 20 world Cup knew that Mikel was more than a sensation.
He was at the same level with Messi then and dazzled the football world such that there was a very very big transfer battle between Chelsea and Man United to sign him.
Some rumoured that Abramovich kidnapped him when he was about to sign for Man United. He was that good. So all Nigerians loved him.
When Chelsea signed him in a squad that had Drogba, Essien, Makalele, Ashley Cole, Kalou, Malouda, later on Bosingwa, Philips etc.
Chelsea appeared like a full fledged African team. Upfront, it's only Lampard behind Anelka Drogba and Kalou. Behind its only Terry, Cech and Calvalho and in the middle, it's only Ballack. The rest were black.
So my love for Chelsea was sealed. Not because Chelsea was the best but because Chelsea held intrinsic values to me.
And since then, a lot has changed but my love for Chelsea remained. It's the same thing for the fans Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool etc.
