Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen, received glowing praise from the Italian sports media following his outstanding performance in the team's 6-1 victory over Sassuolo on Wednesday night. Osimhen scored three goals and provided an assist during the game.

The popular La Gazzetta dello Sport, labelled the forward ‘solution’ to Napoli’s problems.

‘He is the solution to Napoli’s problems, but not only,’ wrote journalist Pierfrancesco Archetti.

‘He made errors sometimes but continued to create chances. He even played a long ball for Kvara, who then scored the 5-1.’

Corriere dello Sport stated that Osimhen was unstoppable in the game.

The Nigeria international was rated 8/10 by Gazzetta and Corriere dello Sport and 9 by Tuttosport.

The 25-year-old has now scored five goals in three games since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Bayelsa Professional Forum (BPF) has expressed disappointment over Governor Douye Diri's recent remarks regarding the role of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in elections. Philip Erepa, the Secretary of BPF, stated in a Wednesday press release in Yenagoa that he observed with dismay during a live youth program where the governor implied that the police had no duty during elections.

He said Diri, who alluded to the matter already before a court, an action he said is subjudice, claimed that the police had no responsibility to stand as a witness in a case on an election they monitored and secured.

He accused the governor of making some damaging remarks against the Commissioner of Police, CP Alausa, and other respected patrons of the state and the country....

French World Cup champion Paul Pogba has been handed a four-year football ban for doping. This decision effectively concludes Pogba's career as the Juventus midfielder will turn 31 in March.

Pogba, who has been suspended since last September, was tested in August and the results showed elevated levels of testosterone, a hormone that increases athletes’ endurance.

The tribunal said Pogba had violated anti-doping rules when they found the prohibited substance “non-endogenous testosterone metabolites”, a hormone that increases athletes’ endurance.

Meanwhile, a second test sample has now been checked and the former Manchester United star has been handed a four-year ban, considered among the strongest possible punishments for the offence.

Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi, widely recognized as Mr Jollof, a Nigerian comedian and event organizer, alleges that Burna Boy declined a one billion naira offer to perform at a concert jointly organized by him and other investors in Warri, Delta State.

He said they had reached out to the singer’s team with an offer of $1 million (N1.3 billion) but his team rejected it on the grounds that it was below what the singer charges.

The comedian disclosed this in a recent Instagram post.

Mr Jollof wrote in Pidgin English, “Me and some investors reached out to Burna Boy’s team for a concert in Delta State for One Million US Dollars (1.3 billion Naira today’s rate). Guess what? They said it’s too small.

“Burna Boy no dey Nigeria lane again oo because we didn’t utilise him enough before he was exported to global music market. No jokes.”

Fireboy DML, the Nigerian singer also known as Adedamola Adefolahan, disclosed that he turned down offers from prominent artists and music executives before ultimately signing with rapper Olamide’s YBNL Nation in 2018.

The ‘Peru’ crooner disclosed this in a recent interview with Billboard News in Los Angeles.

He said he accepted Olamide’s deal because he knew it was “the right decision.”

“I rejected a couple of deals from big artists that wanted to sign me. But when Olamide came, I knew it was the right decision. And that process has really helped me in making decisions going forward,” he said.

Environmental experts emphasize the hazards associated with merging the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) and the National Centre for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (NACGRAB) into the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA).

They urged the Federal Executive Council, FEC, to review its plans for the merger as it poses danger to Nigeria’s biosafety.

Recall that FEC, in order to enhance efficiency in the federal civil service, and reduce the cost of governance, decided to implement the recommendations of the Steve Oronsaye panel on the restructuring and rationalisation of federal agencies, parastatals and commissions. The implementation involves merging, subsuming and scrapping agencies with similar functions.

The Executive Director of Health Of Mother Earth Foundation, HOMEF, Dr Nnimmo Bassey, in a statement by his media/cmmunications lead, Kome Odhomor, on Thursday explained that though the FEC’s idea of restructuring and rationalization of Federal Government agencies is a welcome development, there is need for a critical review of the current mandate of all agencies, parastatals and commissions to be merged to ensure adequate institutional support, including budgetary allocations and concrete implementation plans....

Operatives of the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested one Captain Nuhu Haruna for an alleged criminal breach of trust to the tune of N1,020,000.000, One Billion, Twenty Million Naira only.

The suspect was arrested when a petitioner alleged that sometime in December 2023, he was introduced to the suspect for the purpose of a foreign exchange transaction involving N1,020,000.00.

He allegedly paid the money into the suspect’s account to offer him its dollar equivalent.

He explained that the suspect furnished him with evidence of payments made which turned out to be false as he never received the dollar equivalent.

Preliminary investigation showed that Haruna, who claimed to be an airline captain, allegedly diverted the money for his personal use by buying properties and vehicles which he intended to use for the start-up of his alleged airline company, Air Unity Aviation Services.

A landed property purchased at N155,000,000.00 (One Hundred and Fifty-Five Thousand Naira) and another purchased at N350,000.000 (Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira), three 18-seater Toyota Hiace buses imprinted with the logo of Air Unity Aviation Services and four exotic cars were traced to the suspect.

The Commission added that the suspect would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations

A businesswoman, Adenike Lawal on Wednesday sought the dissolution of her one-year-old marriage to her estranged husband, Muslim, on grounds that he is a drunk and a wife be**er.

The divorce suit came up at a Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan.

Lawal, who resides in Okota area of Lagos State added that Muslim often subjected her to battery at any slightest provocation.

“My lord, once Muslim, beats her whenever he gets drunk and he does not provide for his family.

“Muslim have not done much concerning our childlessness.

“Not too long ago, Muslim threw out my belongings and refused to allow me into his home,” Lawal stated.

However, Muslim was not in court when he was called to respond to the allegations leveled against him.

According to the court’s bailiff, hearing notices were served on him several times, but he declined the court’s appearance.

Delivering judgment, the court’s President, Mrs S.M. Akintayo held that there was no marriage to be dissolved between Lawal and Muslim because no valid traditional marriage existed between them.

According to Akintayo, the testimony given by the petitioner indicated that both of them suddenly started living or cohabiting together.

The President of the court however, granted the order restraining the respondent from harassing, threatening and interfering in the personal life of the petitioner henceforth.

Veteran singer and former member of The Remedies, Edward Ashiedu Brown, popularly known as Eddy Remedy, has claimed that his father was among those who wrote the Nigerian national anthem.

He said his father, Ashiedu Brown, a retired police officer, was in the Nigeria Police Band that composed the national anthem but all the credits were given to his boss, Benedict Elise Odiase, the director of the band.

The veteran singer noted that to date, his father has not been given any national honour for his contribution to the national anthem.

Eddy Remedy claimed his father’s sad experience made him oppose his son’s musical career because he believed that he would never be rewarded by Nigeria.

Speaking in a recent interview with Daddy Freeze, Eddy Remedy said, “Now I understand why my dad didn’t want me to do music. Because they did the same thing to him. My Dad was among those who wrote the national anthem. But what did he get? Did they give him any recognition? Instead, they gave all the credit to his boss, [Benedict] Odiase, who was the commissioner of Police then,” he lamented.

Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has declared his intention to take legal action against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, citing alleged defamation. Speaking at Senator Barinada Mpigi’s Thanksgiving Service in Koroma, Tai Local Government Area, Rivers State on February 18, Emefiele also expressed frustration over what he perceived as the inability of Bola Tinubu's administration to find suitable charges against him.

However, in a letter through his lawyer, Mathew Burkaa (SAN), addressed to Akpabio, Emefiele demanded an apology in written form, published in the media, or be slammed with a N25bn lawsuit.

In the letter, Emefiele claimed that the interpretation of the senate president’s comment meant that he is a serial offender whose action is responsible for all the hardship experienced by Nigerians.

The letter partly read, “We are solicitors to Dr. Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (hereinafter referred to as “Our Client”), on whose brief and instruction, we write this letter. The above statement, whether taken in their ordinary, figurative, or literal meaning portrayed our Client as:

“The cause of the entire hardship in Nigeria today is as a result of the policies of the previous administration.

“A serial offender whose action is responsible for all the hardship experienced by Nigerians today.

“A person who has committed offences that are so numerous that the government is confused as to which of the offences to prefer a charge against him.”

Emphasizing remarks made by the Senate President, Emefiele said, “As the President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, you certainly know, or have reasons to know that the Federal Government of Nigeria had since August 14, 2023, preferred charges against our client to which he had long pleaded not guilty and is presently defending same to exonerate himself and show that he is not guilty of the said allegations. It is therefore disturbing, that such a statement would be made by the Head of the Legislature of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on a matter that is clearly subjudice.

“Your statement, with the greatest respect, clearly undermines the honour and integrity of the Court and its independence and indeed has the propensity of prejudicing the case against Our Client. Having submitted to the jurisdiction of the Court, it is only fair and proper that the Court should be allowed to determine the issues submitted to it without unnecessary pressure from any other arm of Government.

“Secondly Sir, as a Senior member of the Bar, a former Governor of a State, A Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and a former Minister under the immediate past Administration, Your statement attributing the present economic woes of the country solely on Our Client is most appalling and exposes the inaccuracies in your assertions, especially, as you were a major player in the immediate Past Administration and worked closely with Our Client and indeed witnessed the innovations he introduced in the banking sector and its impact on the economy whilst in office, as well as the role he played despite all odds in salvaging Nigeria in the P & ID Saga and the positive result it brought for Nigeria.

“You are also aware that no single policy was carried out by Our Client without the approval, directive, or authorization of the President and/or the Federal Executive Council of which you were a key and powerful member.

“It is pursuant to the above and without delving into the matter presently pending in Court that Our Client has instructed that we write to Your good offices and demand the immediate retraction of Your statement which has gone viral and is considered defamatory of Our Client,

“These baseless and false allegations defame the character of Our Client and have also caused him great pains and embarrassment as it has lowered his esteem before the right-thinking members of the Society in addition to the obvious odium and opprobrium from the unsuspecting members of the Society as a result of the falsity contained in that statement.

“We, therefore have Our Client’s further instruction to demand from you an unreserved apology in writing, published and circulated by the same medium with which you have defamed his character, and the sum of N25,000,000,000 as reasonable compensation for the willful and unjustifiable denigration of his hard-earned reputation. If you fail, refuse, or neglect to comply with this legitimate demand, Our Client will be at liberty to seek the appropriate redress available to him under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has declared his intention to take legal action against Senate President Godswill

21/02/2024

"I wish to urgently call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to end the inconsistency in duty charges as it is affecting the general business atmosphere in the country.

The federal government should stop the arbitrary and ever-increasing customs duties as it is now negatively impacting businesses and the cost of items, and this portends a huge danger to the economy. A situation where at the point of initiating importation, Form M and other documents related to importation are based on a particular rate of exchange for example, N1000 to $1, being the prevailing exchange rate at the time which the importer of goods was used to calculate the entire process, from the import initiation to receipt of goods in his warehouse.

Then suddenly when the goods arrive in Nigeria, and duties are calculated at different rates, say N1400 to $1, it becomes a serious business challenge that results in business losses. Worse still, it directly fuels the inflationary spike which is the basis of increasing cost of goods and living.

Such arbitrary charges will obviously lead to further closure of businesses, and attendant job losses. This is because at the time of the initiation of the business, calculations, including duties, have been made based on the prevailing exchange rate, and the prevailing market prices. If this situation is not corrected, our importers may resort to using ports of nearby countries, a situation that will leave our ports under-productive, and further deepen our economy into a worse situation as a result of loss of revenue.

The government should also show consistency in its policies as this will help with economic forecasting and business planning. Businesses are dying and manufacturers are shutting down because of the poor and inconsistent economic policies of the government.
All efforts of the government should be directed at supporting businesses, especially those in the manufacturing sector, to keep their businesses afloat and keep the economy growing, as the small business sector remains the most critical engine of economic growth.

We cannot afford to target high customs revenues at the expense of the survival of local businesses, employment and reasonable cost of living. -PO" he shared via his X handle.

In a bid to alleviate the economic hardship faced by its citizens, the Kogi State Government has embarked on a distribution initiative, providing 50 bags of rice as palliative measures. The distribution, aimed at the indigent population, is part of efforts to cushion the effects of the prevailing economic challenges in the state.

Governor Ahmed Ododo emphasized the importance of ensuring that the palliative reaches those most in need, cautioning officials against any diversion or hoarding of the relief items. He reiterated the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the distribution process, stating, “We have put in place the mechanism to track, identify and deal decisively with those who may want to hoard or divert the items from those who needed them most amongst us.”

The rice distribution is set to benefit households across the 239 wards in the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state. Governor Ododo affirmed that measures have been implemented to monitor the distribution closely, underscoring the government’s resolve to prioritize the welfare of the citizens.

Expressing gratitude for the support received, Governor Ododo extended appreciation to the people for their understanding and patience during these challenging times. He also acknowledged the assistance of various stakeholders, including former President Bola Tinubu, in facilitating the distribution of the palliative to the indigent citizens.

Furthermore, Governor Ododo highlighted his administration’s long-term agricultural development plan aimed at ensuring food security in the state. He emphasized the need for self-sufficiency in food production, stating, “We must produce what we eat, eat what we produce and produce what others eat.”

The governor reassured the public that the distribution of palliative measures would be a quarterly exercise, underscoring the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of the most vulnerable members of society.

In their remarks, Speaker of the Kogi House of Assembly, Umar Yusuf, and Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Gabriel Amari, commended the governor for the initiative. They lauded Governor Ododo for his dedication to fulfilling campaign promises and ensuring the well-being of the residents, including efforts to enhance security across the state.

Similarly, the Attah Igala and President of the Kogi Traditional Council, Matthew Opaluwa, expressed appreciation to the governor for his commitment to alleviating the suffering of the people.

Governor Ododo concluded by reiterating his administration’s dedication to serving the citizens diligently and impartially, regardless of political affiliation, tribe, ethnicity, or religion. He urged all stakeholders to prioritize the needs of the less privileged and emphasized the importance of collective efforts in overcoming the challenges facing the state.

In a bid to alleviate the economic hardship faced by its citizens, the Kogi State Government has embarked on a distribution initiative, providing 50 bags of

"Herbert and I spent the afternoon together in our home on Thursday, February 1st. He shared the Wigwe University Vision, collaborations with Ivy League universities, immediate research objectives, the scholarship scheme for bright students unable to pay fees, and how the infrastructure around the University—especially the roads and power plant—would benefit the entire community.

He also discussed various initiatives for giving young people across the country opportunities to excel, particularly in sustainability and climate action ideas. In Herbert’s typical style—thoughtful, progressive, compassionate—he quietly did great things. He was a profoundly deep individual who understood that service to man is service to God. As is the way of mortals, he leaves much undone, but the seed that keeps the forests growing has been planted. All his legacies will grow, and his dreams will become reality.

As we mourn the heart-wrenching passing of Herbert, Chizoba, and Chizi Wigwe, we pray for the inexplicable comfort that only God can give to the Wigwe and Nwuba families, and to their friends and loved ones everywhere." Yemi Osibanjo shared via his X handle.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is currently quizzing a former governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed, over shady transactions running into billions of naira while he was in office.

The former governor was seen arriving at the Ilorin office of the EFCC on Monday morning.

The anti-graft agency invited him and he is currently answering questions relating to how his administration spent the funds.

Ahmed was governor of Kwara State between May 2011 and May 2019, before handing over to the incumbent, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

Ahmed was once interrogated in May 2021 by a crack team of operatives at the EFCC headquarters in the Jabi area of Abuja, the nation’s capital, in connection with the alleged diversion of funds to the tune of about N9 billion from the coffers of the Kwara State Government.

The money was alleged to have been diverted during Ahmed’s tenure as governor of the state, and when he served as the Commissioner for Finance in the administration of ex-Governor Bukola Saraki.

MALCOM OMIRHOBO'S TAKE ON TINUBU'S MEETING WITH STATE GOVERNORS AND THE MINISTER OF FCT.

"The meeting of Tinubu , Shettima , the 36 States Governors and the Minister of FCT is commendable but my take are that : The recruitment of more policemen to beef up the Nigerian Police Force is http://welcoming.so also is the creation of state police in the pipeline and the encouragement of the Forest Rangers to keep all our forest safe from criminals to help boast food production.

However, I dare say that all these must go beyond rhetoric and mouthing. Action must be speedily taken on the issue of insecurity without delay. Bills to the National Assembly should have started flying already. There should be time line for fruition. On food importation, I don't see any reason why Nigeria should not import food items in the interim while the issue of insecurity as stated above is being addressed. Nigerians are starving as if they we are in a war situation. Children are malnourished and many people are silently dying of hunger.

The issue of going tough on Hoarders of food items must be handled with extreme caution. To follow the Kano style in an economy without price control will work in justice if not well handled. Nigeria is a free economy where the government does nothing to assist its citizens in their business. It is therefore illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional for government to monitor private ware houses of citizens where food are stored with state apparatus with aim of seizing their products like BUHARI did in his first coming. Please, We are not in a military era.

This is not to say that I support food Hoarding. The meeting should have had on its burner the issue of the right of Nigerians to self defence, the police alone cannot solve the problem of insecurity. Every citizen is entitled to defend himself, his family, neighbours, other members of the public including the police as well as his property from unlawful violence.

Also the critical issue of electricity supply to Nigerians was missing in the resolution of the said meeting . For one month now I have not had electricity in my house and office for eighty percent of the time in view. Without electricity how will the governors empower the youths?" he shared via his X handle.
