As predicted, newly sworn-in Senegal President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has appointed his friend, leader and mentor, Ousmane Sonko, as the Prime Minister of the country.

As Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko is tasked with appointing members of the cabinet in consultation with President Bassirou Faye.

These young men were tax collectors just 10 years ago, they alongside other young people came together to forge a platform, PASTEF, in 2014 under the leadership of Sonko. They are now responsible with the running of the country just 10 years after.

In our African culture, divorce is a taboo. A man isn't allowed to divorce a woman unless she has committed infidelity, only that is unforgivable

As for a man wanting to divorce a woman because she's no longer young, that's where polygamy came in. It allowed the man to get another young wife without divorcing the older wife

As a matter of fact in the old days, the older wife would usually suggest her younger sister/cousin to come and be the younger wife. She understood that the younger wife wasn't there to replace but help her

The result was the man's sexual needs were met whilst the woman's needs which are protection, provision, problem solving and pe*******on were also maintained

Was it a perfect system? No, but it at least tried to cover the core needs of both the man and the women....

The messenger may be questionable considering it's Shakira but it still doesn't take away from the message - Barbie The Movie was a feminist fantasy. It was a movie strictly made to "empower" women by emasculating men

All the male characters in the movie aka the Kens were reduced to either goofs whilst the Barbies were elevated to geniuses. Much like in today's society, women are being pushed whilst men are being neglected. Observe how everything in today's society is designed to cater to women, e.g

Productive rights - it's okay for a woman to choose whether to be a mother or not (abortion) but wrong for a man to do so

Child custody rights - in almost every divorce, custody rights are always given to the woman, whilst the man is given mere visiting rights

Assets acquisition in divorce - in almost every divorce it's the man who loses half if not all of his assets to the woman

GBV - gender based violence is only taken seriously if the man is the perpetrator not the other way

False r**e accusations - women can get away with framing a man for r**e with no repercussions

In almost everything, women are prioritized whilst men are neglected. Women are celebrated at every turn, whilst men are demonized. Why can't women shine without throwing shade on men?....

Black Sherif is the reason why "Wotowoto Seasoning" is worth listening to, he not only bodied the remix but also outshined Odumudo himself. Judging by the audio clip circulating online, Asake's supposed verse was terrib!e & will ru!n the track even more. Sherif did a better job. That said, Odumudo sounds better when singing than rapping. However, he needs to up his songwriting skills & switch up his flow if he wishes to have a h!t anytime soon. No shades...

When I was much younger, my Igbo dad would say this when annoyed, “The day I die, you’ll know that you’ve lost a covering, because I am the god you see…”

Now I’m grown, I lost my dad a couple of years ago, and I understand it. When you lose a parent, you feel a bit naked. It’s like layers of protection chipping away. Growing up as a kid, I believed that armed robbers wouldn’t attack our houses because of my father. When my dad travelled, I felt less safe—every noise at night scared me and made me wish he was at home.

Having your parents alive, being able to speak to them, and listening to their counsel, no matter how archaic, gives you succour that you can’t find almost anywhere else. Nothing beats being able to rely on the people/person from whom you came. Nothing beats being encouraged by your father, or mother. Nothing beats observing their wisdom and scooping from the well of their wisdom.

Hence, when you lose a parent, you feel unsafe; you lose a covering; you lose parental oversight. Life is impossible without parental comfort — a knowledge that someone lives with the assurance that you’re their responsibility, old or young; rich or poor; you are their responsibility. Even orphans find wise elders they can adopt as parents, because life without a parent on earth, is like eternity without a good God.

It feels like I’m rambling already, but you may never understand the depth of what a parent entails till you lose them. Shockingly, they don’t need to be financially stable or able to do anything outstanding for you. Just knowing that they’re alive gives your mind peaceful silence.

May God help orphans and people who lack parents. And may we grow to be parents our children will be scared to lose.
