political action group, the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy, COPDEM, has said that the alarm raised by the Department of State Security, DSS over planned violent protest in the country, has shown that the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, PEPT’s judgment billed to be delivered on Wednesday has been leaked to the Executive.

The group declared at a press conference held on Tuesday in Abuja that the security alarm raised by secret police “is ill-conceived and politically motivated.”

Speaking through its media team representative, Prince Rwang Pam Jnr., COPDEM wondered how could a peaceful protest be suppressed by security agencies despite constitutional provision and international human rights law for protests.

“The alarm raised yesterday, September 4, 2023, by Nigeria’s Spy Police, DSS, over ‘plans by some persons or groups to stage violent protest regarding the long-awaited judgment of the 2023 Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal’, scheduled for Wednesday, September 6, 2023, appears to confirm information leakage and the possibility of a verdict of dismissal based on technicality rather than justice based on constitutional merit.

“By raising this alarm, the security agents appear to confirm having prior knowledge of the verdict yet to be delivered to Nigerians. Plausibly, a member of the Judiciary may have leaked the PEPT panel’s verdict to the Executive arm of the current government of Nigeria.

“In this case, the government along with its internal and external security agents have proven themselves illiterate in the handling of this privileged information by using it to inflict further psychological damage to the psyche of the already broken populace.

“We believe, therefore, that the DSS alarm is ill-conceived and politically motivated, thereby raising doubts about the integrity and independence of the five Tribunal Justices and the credibility of their long-awaited judgment.

“As the international community is aware, the social contract theory underscores the undisputed facts that government exists for the people and derives its authority from the people to act on their behalf primarily for their security and wellbeing.

“Nigerians’ rights to protest are safeguarded under Sections 38, 39, 40, and 41 of the Constitution. ‘It is a fundamental human right of the people to voice out their displeasures, disappointments, and frustrations.’

“In accordance with international standards and best practices as recognized under international law, the international community must hold the current government of Nigeria accountable for the killing or brutalisation of peaceful protesters. Security agencies should not prevent citizens from exercising their right to protest.

“Articles 18, 19 and 20 of the Universal Declaration of Human Right, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Right and the UN Human Rights Council’s Resolution at its 38th Session on Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in the context of Peaceful Protests are quite apposite,” the group explained.

Nigerians underrated the man who Forged his birth certificate.
Forged his school certificate.
Forged his identity and name
And nothing happened.

We underrated a man who got away with paying people to impersonate as bishops and pastors.
Got away with drug cases even in the US.
Got away with Muslim/Muslim ticket.
Got away with ethnic bigotry.
And we did nothing.

We underestimated a man who pocketed the media for years and controlled the narrative.
Pocketed Lagos for over 20 years and decided who governs her.
Controlled APC and brought in Buhari to rule after he has even given up.

We did not pay attention when he intentionally refused to attend any presidential debates, but made jokes of them.

We didn't pay attention when his greatest critic, FFK, became his biggest defender.
The "almighty" Wike with his band became his puppet.
The one-time respected lawyer Festus Keyamo became his errand boy.

Maybe, just maybe, we underrated him too much and never saw that he could buy Yakubu and the entire INEC structure, buy the electoral system, and control even the police and judiciary.

We urged him on with our silence and even hailed him as a Chicago boy. We were comfortable calling him Emilokan.

We forgot that the man who ordered for the massacre of protesting innocent youths in Lagos is prepared to shed as many blood as possible to be in A*o Rock, it's his life time dream.

We forgot that for over 10 years this man made solid plans to become the president of Nigeria by all means or wreck it. He even told us about how dirty he was prepared to grab power.

But, he underrated the resilient spirits of the present NIGERIAN youths, and that is his greatest undoing. If we allow this to stand, we should expect this to be only but the beginning. If we win this, we will put an end to impunity, bigotry, godfatherism, hooliganism, thuggery, intimidation and violence.
This robbery should not be allowed.

Don't come telling me it is the will of God. If robbery and violence are the will of God, what then was the purpose for establishing the police department?

The mother of all revolutionary protest that will shake the very foundation of Nigeria is now inevitable.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BATHROOM AND BAFFROOM.

Bathroom Is a place where you take a shower, it's a very clean and cool place, you can sleep and charge your phone there if you wish. Bathroom is always inside the house But you see Baffroom, Infact, the distance from your house to baffroom is like 10 kilometers . If you are going to the baffroom you need to carry your bucket of water in one hand, your soap container in the other hand and your towel round your neck, The towel round your neck is the baffroom door so you hang it in a way that will cover the door . Pray make correct breeze no blow cha! Baffroom has no place to keep soap so you have to hold it in your hand while baffing and if the soap mistakenly drop there, infact just forget it🚶🚶🚶🚶 After baffing, you will still pour water on your legs to remove sand that splashed on it while you baffed . That water must not finish o! You will take the remaining water back to your doorstep and pour it again on your legs to remove the sand picked up on your return,

GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION RESULTS

11/03/2023

HOW IT ALL HAPPENED
In 1927, the then President Charles D.B. King scored 234,000 votes out of a total of 15,000 registered voters. The victor was also kind enough to give his opponent 9,000 votes as a mark of fairness and justice. That uncommon feat is naturally in the Guinness Book of World Records. We in Nigeria have not reached that enviable height. We will get there one day, soon. But we had a presidential election last Saturday in which the person who was declared winner got voted in by less than 10 percent of the total registered voters and even less than four percent of the nation's population.

The world is not pleased with our ways, and we could read it clearly in how the global press described what we did with ourselves last week. The Economist said a “chaotically organized vote and messy count” gave Nigeria a new president. The Financial Times said in an editorial comment that our presidential election was “deeply flawed” and the winner “a wealthy political fixer.” The Guardian of U.K. described the winner as “an immensely wealthy veteran powerbroker trailed by corruption allegations which he denies.” The New York Times described him as “a divisive figure in Nigerian politics.” Robert Rotberg, founding director of the Harvard Kennedy School's programme on intrastate conflict, wrote an opinion for Canada's influential Globe and Mail; its headline: “Bola Tinubu's election is another triumph for Nigeria's corrupt old guard.” The Times of London was the most disrespectful. It used this very bad phrase: “a wealthy kleptocratic 'godfather' of politics” to describe the person who will replace our very clean Buhari on May 29, 2023. As bad as those characterizations are, they are not as damaging as the Financial Times' revelation that it personally “witnessed armed men remove a presidential ballot box in Surulere, Lagos” on Election Day.

The CNN last Friday played back a part of Bola Tinubu's acceptance speech where he described what he got as “a serious mandate.” A CNN anchor then asked if it “was really a mandate” with less than 10 percent of the registered voters behind it. He must be wondering what kind of people are these? The CNN and that anchor were not the only ones bemused by our electoral culture, our elections and their outcomes. One of Germany's largest newspapers, Sueddeutsche Zietung, had unflattering words for the winner; it also queried the legitimacy of a mandate that was spurned by 90 per cent of the voting population. Aljazeera ran a special report on how the election was disrupted in Lagos last Saturday. The headline is: 'How violence robs Nigerians of their votes.' The Washington Post quoted Matthew Page, associate fellow with Chatham House’s Africa Program, as accusing INEC of making both deliberate and unintentional mistakes: “They raised the hopes about the election and its transparency, and then they dashed them. When the opposition says the process was broken, it’s hard to argue with them.” Foreign election observers from the US International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) summed up their opinion of the election as falling “well short of Nigerian citizens’ legitimate and reasonable expectations.” I have spent the past five days reading informed commentaries and listening to credible voices. I have not seen, read or heard a single positive review of the election in any credible media in any country of the world. I have been around long enough to conclude that Tinubu's 2023 mandate is rivaled in content, texture and review probably only by Shehu Shagari's Verdict '83 mandate.

I think we should look at the figures. We have just held an election in which the declared winner polled 8,794,726 votes from a total 24,965,218 votes cast. Check the figures again; what they say is that 16,491,890 out of 24,965,218 who were on record as having voted last Saturday rejected the man who was declared winner. One international news organization looked at the figures and said “democracy failed here.” That is one of the ironies of multiparty democracy. The more strong parties you have, the more they will likely brawl, push and shove like hungry lions, and share the votes available. Unless we change our laws and impose stricter conditions on what a candidate must score to win our top job, a day will come when someone will be elected the president of Africa's most populous country with less than one million votes. It is not funny. Ninety-three million, four hundred and sixty-nine thousand and eight (93,469,008) Nigerians registered to vote; 87,209,007 people collected voter cards to participate in the election; but, on Election Day, only 25,286,616 persons, according to INEC, came out to vote. Then, INEC told us 24,965,218 persons actually voted.

There are other figures we should examine. INEC said total votes cast was 24,965,218; total valid votes was 24,025,940 while rejected votes totaled 939,278. INEC subtracted total valid votes (24,025,940) from total votes cast (24,965,218), and got a total rejected votes tally of 939,278. I have no problem with that addition and subtraction. The problem I have is with INEC's figure of 25,286,616 accredited voters and the gap between that figure and total votes cast of 24,965,218. By INEC's rules and regulations, accreditation and voting took place simultaneously. That means it would be strange for a person not to vote after leaving his/her house for the polling station, joining the queue and being accredited and given ballot papers. Between the figures of total accredited voters and total votes cast, we have a difference of 321,398 persons who went through the rigours of accreditation but who INEC said did not vote. What happened to them and where did they go? Were they abducted by bandits or given sleeping pills that knocked them out of voting? INEC offered no explanation. Could they be the persons we saw in videos being chased out of polling units by the goons and thugs of the gods of power? Or, could they be persons who actually voted but had their ballot papers snatched and destroyed and burnt by enforcers of imperial ambitions? Who were these 321,398 persons who disappeared from the polling booths after accreditation and could their number be higher than what was announced? The electoral commission has no answers to those questions. It is also silent on the thousands of ballot papers torn and burnt by thugs in Lagos, Kogi, Kano, Rivers and in other places where mayhem cast the deciding votes last Saturday. Can INEC submit the booklets and stubs of ballot papers used in the presidential election for independent inspection for us to have an idea of the number of used ballots that did not make it into the ballot box?

Mahmood Yakubu's INEC has always had problems with presidential election figures. Shortly before the 2019 elections, his INEC announced that it had 84,004,084 voters in its register. On Election Day, it wrote 82,344,107 as our total registered voters. I wrote a column on this that time and asked: What happened to the balance of 1,659,977 voters? Just as we have seen with last Saturday's election, there was a crude disparity between accredited voters (29,364,209) and total votes cast (28,614,190) - a difference of 750,019. That was four years ago. There was no explanation for the gaps; there will never be.

FULANI AGAIN
The people in the morning gathered and buried their loved ones who were killed just a day ago by Fulani people. They conducted the burial with the protection of security people. And after the burial the security people left and the people were about to leave the scene of the burial when the armed Fulani herdsmen came burial when the armed Fulani herdsmen came and started shooting everyone. “They gunned down plenty people and injured many. People ran for their lives but most of the victims were people who could not escape. No one saw it coming, no one thought the people will be courageous enough to attack our people during a burial ceremony that also had security persons in attendance.”

Confirming the attack, the Chairman of Gwer West LGA, Mr. Andrew Ayande described the attack and murder of the innocent mourners as heartless and highly condemnable.

“The armed Fulani herders stormed Tse-Jor where the mourning people were burying their dead. And incidentally the people they were burying were also killed a day ago by these same armed herders,” the chairman said. “Security personnel from the military were there with them as the burial was going on, so everyone was relax. They aided in conducting the burial. After the burial the security people left and the mourners were also about leaving. And suddenly the armed herders appeared and opened fire on them.

“They killed eight of the mourners in that village and injured others. After that they set the village on fire. It is quite unfortunate because these were mourners who went to bury their dead. The attackers came in from neighboring Nasarawa state to unleash mayhem on our people.

“Luckily the soldiers were alerted and they returned back to the village, but the attackers fled to where they came from. If not for the quick return of the security personnel the casualty figure would have been higher because Tse-Jor is a very big settlement.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Pius Akubo has rejected the appointment to be part of the legal team to defend President-elect Tinubu in court.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) appointed some senior advocates in the country to defend the party and the president-elect, Bola Tinubu in court concerning his controversial win in the February 25 presidential election.

However, one of the lawyers, Pius Akubo has rejected the appointment. According to a press statement released, the lawyer stated that he wasn’t informed of the appointment about being part of the legal team who will defend Tinubu in court.

The statement reads:

“In the last twenty-four (24) hours or so, the social media space has been agog with a trending unsigned letter in respect of appointment of Presidential Election Petition Legal Team by All Progressives Congress (APC) wherein my name is listed as number 10,” said the senior lawyer in a statement.

Mr Akubo added, “With all due respect, I wish to state that I had no prior knowledge of the said appointment. As a matter of fact, I have not received any official communication on the subject matter hitherto. Suffice it to say that I was taken by surprise to hear of the said appointment vide social media.”

Mr Akubo pointed out that he could not defend the former Lagos governor for personal reasons even if such contemplations were being made.

“In the circumstance and for personal reasons, I hereby decline the said appointment,” he added.

INEC postpones guber poll, gives reasons

The Independent National Electoral Commission has postponed the governorship and state house of assemblies elections earlier scheduled for Saturday, March 11.

Both elections according to the electoral umpire, will now hold on Saturday, March 18.

The decision to postpone the polls was taken at INEC Management meeting convened Wednesday in Abuja after the commission’s request to reconfigure the Bi-modal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS machines was granted by the Court of Appeal.

INEC National Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, chaired the emergency meeting which started at 7pm and ended at 10pm.

But the postponement was contained in a statement issued later by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye.

INEC, in the statement posted on its Twitter handle, said it could not go ahead with the governorship poll as earlier scheduled because it needed time to reconfigure BIVAS machines, which were used for the presidential election on February 25.

The statement obtained by Wawa News Global read:”Following today’s ruling by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (EPT) on the reconfiguration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) used for the Presidential election held on 25th February 2023, the Commission met to assess its impact on the Commission’s preparations for the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, 11″ March 2023.

“Nigerians would recall that on 3rd March 2023, the Presidential EPT had given an exparte order for some political parties to inspect materials used for the Presidential election, including the forensic inspection of over 176.000 BVAS used in the election which are located in INEC LGA offices across the country.

“The Commission approached the Tribunal to reconsider the order given that the BVAS Systems were to be deployed for the Governorship and State Assembly elections and that the lack of a clearly defined timeframe for the inspection could disrupt the Commussion’s ability to conduct the outstanding elections.

” For instance. the BVAS can only be activated on the specific date and time of an election. Having been used for the Presidential and National Assembly elections on 25th February 2023. it is necessary to reconfigure the BVAS for activation on the date of the Governorship and State Assembly elections.

“While the ruling of the Tribunal makes it possible for the Commission to commence the preparation of the BVAS for the Governorship and State Assembly elections, it has come far too late for the reconfiguration to be concluded.

” Consequently, the Commission has taken the difficult but necessary decision to reschedule the Governorship and State Assembly elections which will now take place on Saturday 18″ March 2023.

” By this decision, campaigns will continue until midnight of Thursday 16″ March 2023 i.e. 24 hours before the new date for the election.

This decision has not been taken lightly but is necessary to ensure that there is adequate time to back up the data stored on the over 176, 000 BVAS machines from the Presidential and National Assembly elections held on 25″ February 2023 and then to reconfigure them for the Governorship and State Assembly elections.

” This has been the practice for all elections, including the period when the Commission was using the Smart Card Readers.

“However, we wish to reiterate that the Commission is not against Iitigants inspecting election materials. Consequently, it will continue to grant all litigants access to the materials they require to pursue their cases in court.

“We wish to reassure all political parties and candidates that the data from the Presidential and National Assembly elections will be backed up and available in INEC cloud facilities, including the INEC Results Viewing Portal (IReV).

” Politcal parties can apply for Certified True Copies of the backed data of the BVAS. Also, the results on the BVAS will continue to be available on the IReV for interested parties to access.

“We thank Nigerians and friends of Nigeria for their understanding as we continue to deal with these difficult issues and navigate these challenging times.
