FAIL TO PLAN

Being an adult in Nigeria is mentally draining.

It comes with a whole lot of responsibility.

Everyone sees you as a grownup. You are expected to show up.

They expect some sense of humor.

You are expected to be financially buoyant like you are plucking money from the tree.

By then, your long grammar and phonetics won't be a thing.

Your certificate and awards won't matter if you have nothing to show for it.

It's time to think of how you can be better.

Here are a few practical ways to help you plan your future as a youth:

- AVOID MULTITASKING: You want to do everything in the world. This is one way to kill your career. You end up becoming a jack of all trades and a master of none.

Don't look at those who are supposed to be mentors and try to measure up with them. Work with your pace and where your strength can carry you till you reach that level.

- TIME MANAGEMENT: This is the most vital aspect in planning your future. Set aside time for everything.

Limit the time you spend doing unnecessary things and invest it in the needful.

- AVOID PROCRASTINATION: I know procrastination is an easy thing to do but I must say it hinders progress. Give no room for excuses and get the work done.

- GOALS: Set a goal for yourself. Take those courses, read those books, implement the strategies you were taught, think of why you started, and work towards it.

Be intentional about it.

- PREPARE FOR THE WORST: No one said when you implement these strategies, you will be financially free or the road will be smooth.

There will be disappointments, days you feel like giving up, days you feel like you probably embarked on the wrong journey, and some days you feel depressed.

Failure doesn't define you. It only makes you stronger. It gives you another opportunity to do better and become a better version of yourself.

Lastly, don't forget your maker in all you do. Ask him for directions and he will surely be of help.

To the youths(I'm not excluded), there is a popular quote "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail ". Now is the best time to utilize every opportunity out there. Build the foundation now and sleep in your mansion tomorrow.

There is no limit to what you can do.

The only thing limiting you is YOU.

Was this helpful?

What are other ways you think the youth can plan for their future?

Absu creative fest 2.0 was a success.

Miss Dicey made a statement that most of us will attend this program and still not post. I almost fell into this category but no, I decided to show up.

We had 3 amazing speakers and I must confess they were amazing.

I had the privilege to connect with beautiful people.

With the knowledge I have now, I might become a CEO in 2 days.

I will be sharing a snippet of what I learned from our first speaker.

From our first speaker, Divine Chinyere Ezendiokwere

She talked about hard.

There are two types of hard: hardness and hardship.

You choose the type of hard you want to go through.

-If you go through hardness, you overcome hardship but if you decide to skip hardness, you meet hardship.

*TECH is hard but choose the hardness to overcome hardship.

She also talked about PERSONAL BRANDING.

-A personal brand can set individuals apart in the competitive job market.

-Online presence, a well-curated portfolio, and a consistent message contribute to a strong personal brand.

-The best time to start is now!

-Pay the price of learning: pay for quality learning.

What type of hard do you choose today? Choose wisely and enjoy later.

Thank you Absu Creative Hub for this wonderful opportunity. The experience was worth it.

Ps: the last slide shows the joy I had being a part of the event

Have you been so confused or stuck in a particular article as a writer?

I was to write a particular article this faithful day. I had set up my workspace as every other day.

I write most times with paper and pen before I document. I picked up my pen to start writing and it felt like I had a memory loss.

The Mindset "What if this article doesn't turn out good" crept in instantly.

While I thought I had prepared myself for that particular article, I had no idea coming in. I felt stuck at the moment.

I had to deliver because I had signed up for the job.

This was something I loved doing, why am I suddenly blank? Immediately, I knew I was experiencing the dreaded 'writer's block'.

It's an experience any writer won't like to encounter.

You might be wondering what writer's block is.

"Writer's block is a term used where writers experience a lack of inspiration or motivation, making it difficult to write."

It can manifest in different ways, like feeling stuck, procrastinating, or simply not being able to get words down.

So, how do you overcome this writer's block?

Here are a few tips that helped me overcome writer's block :

Talk to a friend: Friends can be of great help when experiencing writer's block. Talking with a friend can help you refresh
and take away unnecessary thoughts. You can also brainstorm with your friend and probably get ideas for your article.

Stay away from distractions: When experiencing writer's block, try removing distractions from your work area- reducing loud music, switching off your phones, and maintaining a sound-free environment. You might get to think better in a quiet environment.

Work on another piece: If you feel ideas aren't coming from that particular topic, drop it and try writing on another topic. After working on it, come back to the former- there are chances you may be able to write on it.

Read: This is the most effective method to overcome writer's block as it can inspire and motivate. It's best to read books from your favorite authors or books relating to the topic for inspiration.

Freewriting: Freewriting is a technique where you write without any restrictions or judgment. Set a time, maybe 10mins, 30 mins, or even an hour. The goal is to just write whatever comes to mind, without worrying about grammar, spelling, or even making sense.

Leave your workspace: Try other activities aside from writing- strolling, doing other hobbies. It may help in mind relaxation and enhance concentration.

Face your fears: Most writers experience writer's block because of fear of rejection or failure. You may be thinking "What if it doesn't get approved?". You can't entirely be wrong, that's why there is room for editing.

It's okay to fail, it's part of the process. It pushes you to do better, you get to know areas where you are weak and improve in them.

Be patient with yourself. Overcoming writer's block might take time and practice.

The goal of overcoming writer's block is not to write a perfect article but to be able to write a draft. The editing and proofreading come when you are done writing.

…just keep swimming

Most times when you read, you get inspiration for what to write.

Reading the book "It Ends With Me". I picked this particular phrase "...just keep swimming".

You might be wondering what it means.

You can't be where you want to be if you don't keep pushing through.

Most times, people say 'be consistent'. I'm not against this but you can't be consistent doing the wrong thing.

If you don't find your tone, you end up being consistent in vain.

I didn't say consistency is wrong, don't quote me wrong but you have to be consistent in the right path.

Don't just show up because you were told. Think of the life you want to live and work towards it.

Social media has made it easier to reach a larger audience, why don't you take advantage of it.

Read people's posts, get inspired by them, and think of how to solve people's pain points.

Start now to start building toward your future and you will get there.

…just keep swimming, don't get tired.

Things I never said to myself

I saved this poem a long time ago.

Each time I feel troubled, I go to read it and I decided to share.

How long will you hold on to what hurts and neglect the beautiful things around you?

Are you going through a lot and trying to find your stand?

Sometimes, those things we search for are around us but we allow the bad ones to take the better part of us.

Talk to yourself, and celebrate every little win.

You deserve the best, go for it.
Don't give up your years of struggle because of a single moment.

The world awaits you.

A beautiful way to start AUGUST.

Did I delay putting this up? Yes.

Why?

Maybe village people are chanting on my head.

So, last year I discussed with my sis learning a skill or probably starting up a business. I didn't want to do the regular thing of selling clothes and stuff.

I told her I wanted to become a Tech Sis as opposed to a Tech bro and we planned to go for it together.

Each day I kept fantasizing about going into Tech. I had challenges along the way- no laptop, no financial aid.

I shunned the idea or I will say I was lazy to push forth, lol.

Fast forward to 2023,

I told another friend about going into the same Tech and the reasons for delaying. She said, "Since you love reading books, why don't you start content writing".

I stayed awake most nights thinking of what she said. I researched everything I needed to do to be a content writer.

Haa, to be a content writer isn't easy, I gave up(I wasn't ready to come out of my shell).

Scrolling through the walls of Facebook, a friend posted his certificate from Tech Sisi as a content writer. I went straight to Tech Sisi's page to see what it was about.

The only push I needed was right there- the free mentoring. Her price for the class was pocket-friendly and I enrolled.

She was going to give me a discount if I enrolled in 2 classes. Haa, who doesn't like cheap things? I paid for Social media management classes too. I felt like a Tech Sis already.

4 weeks of intensive classes with assignments kept me awake through the night and had me thinking if I was ready to face my fears. It was hectic for me, I faced a lot of challenges but I'm satisfied to say I achieved a lot.

I've never been more proud of myself. Two certificates in one month.

So, yes here I am.

I'm a certified Content writer.

I'm a certified Social media manager.

I will be glad to work with you and I promise not to disappoint.

I'm also available for Intern jobs.

Send me a DM let's help you create catchy content.
