The Link Trainer: WW2’s Mechanical Marvel
Invented by Edwin Link in the late 1920s, this blue box simulator saved lives by training over half a million pilots in WW2. ✈️
Initially dismissed as a carnival ride, it became crucial for the Allies’ air superiority. Mechanical systems simulated real flying, preparing aviators for the sky.
Despite its success, there were bumps in the road. Early skepticism and concerns over potential espionage in Japan marked its history.
Few Link Trainers still exist today, a relic of a pivotal invention that changed aviation forever. 🛠️🕰️
