Historically, it served as a crucial waterway for trade and transportation in the region. Initially notorious as a port for shipping slaves abroad during the slave trade, the river later transitioned into a pivotal route for exporting commodities such as palm oil, cocoa, and timber after the abolition of the slave trade. Presently, it continues to play a vital role in fishing, transportation, and tourism within the area.

Tales of The Browbeaten is an Anthology film directed by Sebastian Ukwa and produced by Onyekachi Ukwa. It was co-written by Ojoi Igajah and Sebastian Ukwa.

We've received 10 international festival selections, Including B3 Festival of Moving Images in Frankfurt Germany, Joburg Film Festival in South Africa, and Africa International Film Festival where we won best short film award amidst others awards at Coal City Film Festival, Eastern Nigeria Film Festival and Uyo International Theatre and Film Festival.

In 2023, Joburg Film Festival and Showmax called for pitches for a slate of 10 live-action films from first time directors in some selected African countries, (Nigeria was one of those countries). Selected projects would be funded and the films will be screened at the 6th 2024 edition of the Joburg Film Festival in South Africa. Now Joburg film festival and Showmax is owned by MultiChoice.
I decided to send my pitch for a feature film, a writer friend had sent me a script he wanted me to look into, and use for the entry. But before I could finish preparing all the documents needed, the deadline day passed and I was unable to submit.
I wasn't happy....
But I let it slide.... "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)

Fast forward to 2024, after making my first feature film, "A Father's Love" with Natives Filmworks. Somehow, the curator of Joburg film festival heard about it and reached out to me last week regarding the film, and my short film "Tales Of The Browbeaten". I sent them Tales of The Browbeaten since "A Father's Love" is still in post production.

Today, I got an official letter from MultiChoice and Joburg Film Festival, my film "Tales of The Browbeaten," has been selected for the 6th 2024 edition of the Joburg Film Festival shorts programme, taking place in Johannesburg South Africa from February 27th – March 3rd 2024.

In 2016, I made my first short film.
I watched the music video of Holy Holy by , directed by Clarence Peters. So I made a short film from that inspiration, I titled it "Situation Report".
In 2018, I made my second short film: "Rancour". I wanted to show how important it is for intending couples to know their genotype status before getting married, I didn't want to go with the usual story structure, so I decided to start the story from the end and put the end In the beginning lol. The film was sponsored by . They came to UNICAL that year, they took interest in me & gave me a huge lift. I'm very grateful for meeting them, God bless them greatly.

In 2019, I made a short film titled "Oxymoron" with my school mates in UNICAL. & Tony Nnorom were the lead actors, then my amazing coursemates who helped me throughout the project. We gave it our best & we did it! The film won best Shortfilm at the Nigeria University Theatre Art Festival that same year.

In 2021 I made my third short film; "Tales of The Browbeaten" an anthology short film I co-wrote with Ojoi Igajah. My sister I funded it, & we made it happen. Thanks to my wonderful cast and crew, who were my dear friends in Calabar. To sir , & Lucky, for the huge support and help they gave me towards that project. My brother , Effiom Saviour Orok and his family who opened their doors to us throughout the shoot. That project turned out great because we had cast and crew who gave their hearts to the project.
We won the best student short film 2022 and we also won three other international awards, for that same project.
