IF ONLY

Two consecutive times
She had repeated a class
So I found myself
In the same class with her
She was my seatmate
Looked normal
But clueless most times
Always lost in thought
Never had a friend
Rarely spoke to anyone

Each time I tried
To engage her in a conversation
She'd get lost along the way
During break time
When we all leave the class
Head bent on desk
She would cry silently
That was her daily routine

I knew something was wrong
But she never spoke out
One day
I returned to class
And met her crying again
This time, it was uncontrollable
I pressed to know why
And she told me her tale of woes

Seven years ago
She lost her Mom
Was left at the mercy
Of Uncle B, her stepfather
"Lie with me or I'll kick you out"
He threatened
She chose the latter option
For the fear of eviction
On and on went the molestation
Finally, it led to conception
Uncle B forced her to have several abortions
This was the beginning of her addictions
She topped it up with prostitution
Dwelt on the streets of guilt
Drenched in sin
Soaked in shame
She had traveled down the road of destruction

"I never wanted to be like this," she cried
"I never wanted this way of life
If only I could turn back the hands of time
Ah, there's no hope for me." She concluded

"No! There is hope for a tree
If it is cut down
That it will sprout again
And that it's tender shoots will not cease." I said
"There's hope for you in Jesus
If only you accept Him today
He paid the highest price
For all of your sins.
He will give you a new beginning
If only you are ready to live for Him"

Right there on her seat
She accepted the Lord Jesus
The next day
She came to class
With a big smile on her face
The joy and peace was obvious
I never knew that the transformation
Could happen immediately

No matter how far you've traveled
down the street of guilt and shame
No matter how dirty your linen is
There is hope for you
If only you accept Jesus
Into your heart and into your life
He will give you a new beginning
If only you accept Him today..

LOVE

I remember the day I met you
Three blocks away from my hostel
I wonder what I was doing at that spot
But I loved the peace and serenity it seemed to offer me
Better than the buzz and fuss of the hostel..

Lost in thoughts
Reminiscing on the difficult challenges
Fear and anxiety forced the tears down my face
I was sinking in depression
It felt like I'll shrink
Under the weight of the pressures of life
Just like I was face-to-face with death
I quickly wiped the tears
As the realization of the environment
Dawned on me..

This was the condition in which you met me
You sat close to me
And introduced yourself
Said you're from the fellowship
You tried to pe*****te my heart at all cost
And I decided to open up to you
After all, a problem shared is half-solved
I told you about my struggles,
My pains and fears
You said "Everything will be fine, I'll pray with you."

The next day
I met you at the library
Standing with another lady
Suddenly holding my hands
You said, "This is the lady"
I was shocked
Like, what's going on?
You said not to worry
"She's a prayer partner"
I wept silently
A big part of me died at that spot
And I thought it will end there
But 'twas like the whole school
Suddenly became your prayer partners
And you thought it wise
To sell my life challenges to them
Without my consent..

Sister Vero
I thought you promised not to sell me out?
You said we'll hand over the matter to God
And trust Him for grace
I never knew that the whole school was your god
How could you do this to me?
How could you betray me?

Oh Sister Vero
You betrayed every ounce of trust I had in you
People staring and pointing fingers at me
Whispering with a mixture of pity and contempt
Whenever I walked past them
Was too much for me to bear
You hurt me much more than the challenges of life
"Better to end this now" I told myself..

So, I got a strong new rope
Ran straight to the bushes
Behind the hostel
There's absolutely no reason
For me to hold on to life..

But as I fixed the rope on my neck
Ready to hang myself
I felt the most overwhelming presence ever
An aura of peace and love
Then I heard His audible voice
"It doesn't have to end this way
I have better plans for you.
Lay aside this weight
And I will give you rest."

I broke down before Him
Surrendered all to Him
He gave me a new beginning
The devil's accusations regardless
People's opinion notwithstanding
The eternal love of Christ found me
And wherever you are, Sister Vero
May the love of Christ find you too..

WORSHIP

When we hear the word "Worship"
The first thing that comes to our mind is a song
But that's not what worship is all about
Worship is deeper than songs
It begins from your spirit
Spreads through your heart
Then take over your life
Worship is first a lifestyle...

Well, it all began
When I gave my life to Christ
Yeah, I said the sinners' prayer
With a broken and contrite heart
At least, I thought so
Finally born again
No more to live in vain
I got to realize that before that moment
I had only existed, I never lived..

The golden scripture *John 3:16*
Was forever carved upon my heart
It felt so good as I basked
in the Father's love
It became a leverage for me
To just go off and live
According to my own terms
I was assured of the Father's love
So much that I took it for granted
Whatever happened to scriptures like Romans 12:2
'Do not conform to the patterns of this world,
But be transformed by the renewing of your mind,
then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is' ?
To me, scriptures like this never existed...

So, I tried it on my own
Did all I could
But I failed and it all ended in frustration
Until that fateful day
I cried out to Him, broken once again
"Help me, Lord." I cried
And He did help me
"I have the blueprint," He said
"You can never do it without ME.
All the while you struggled
You laboured according to the ways of the flesh
The Spirit was lacking
You honour ME with your lips
But your heart and lifestyle say otherwise
All I ever wanted is the entirety of your heart
And a life lived and solely consecrated unto ME
This is all I ever desire."

I got to realize that being born again
Is not just an event
That occurs at a particular point in time
But a continuous process of beholding
And becoming like HIM
So I gave it all up to HIM
Surrendered my all before the ONE
Who gave His life for me...

You, my friend
Could be at that point
I once found myself
Working and labouring in the flesh to please God
Just let go and let GOD
Because, you can't do it without Him
And that's where your worship begins from
The moment you let go of you
And allow Him run your life
The moment you lay it all on the altar
Worship has began
Then your life becomes a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable
Raising continuous incense to the courts of heaven
This indeed is the worship God desires
For they that worship Him must
Worship Him in Spirit and in truth
And there's no worship without a sacrifice
If you agree, sing with me

RETURN_TO_ZION

I don't know who you are
I don't know the different circumstances you've allowed to define you
I don't know the people you've allowed to define you
But there is a message for you from Zion..

Don't allow situations tell you you're finished
Don't allow people tell you you're unwanted
Don't allow men tell you that there is no forgiveness for you because your identity is in Zion..

Listen to what the Monarch of Zion calls you:
Ephesians 1:3, He calls you blessed
Ephesians 1:4, He calls you chosen, He calls you holy and without blame before Him in love
Ephesians 1:6, you're accepted
Ephesians 1:7, you're redeemed, you are forgiven according to the riches of His grace
Ephesians 1:11, you were predestinated for His purpose
Ephesians 1:13, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise
Ephesians 2:4, you're loved
Ephesians 2:8, you're saved
Ephesians 2:10, you're His workmanship, you were created for good works

Despite the fact that you have sold your birthright
There is hope for you if you return to Zion
Where your essence and meaning is found
The Monarch of Zion is ever willing to forgive and cleanse...
Shhhhh... RETURN TO ZION
That's where your identity is defined...

♦THE TRAVAIL♦

Birthed into so much expectancy
Surrounded by lots of significant barricades
Found within her vessel, so much complexity
Virtues that were so compulsive
She just couldn't live in complacency..

Forgive my manners
Meet Anna
Whose life has followed a path of consistency from infancy
Unable to liaise or conform to the patterns of the world
She has tried to venture into many dubious ideas
But the abode of evil has never been conducive for her
"Something supernatural must have configured my life" she said to herself.

There's always been an inner longing
A burning desire that could set a city on fire
This desire left her no choice
Than to be armed with purity
She walked in accuracy with the atmosphere
That has compelled her from the day of conception..

This fateful day
She hears a deep groaning sound
Soft, yet weightier than the gasps
of a woman overtaken by birth pangs
Sounds like the quaking of the earth
Explosive and corrosive in nature..

Inquisitive to know what's going on
She hurries off in the direction of the sound
And ends up at the doorstep of Old Miss Kathryn
Several knocks
No response
She opens the door softly to find Miss Kathryn on her knees
Lost in some sort of birthing process
With so much tears on her face
Whispering passionately
"Restore. Lord, restore."

Like a gentle whisper
Anna hears the voice of the Lord saying
"On the strength of this TRAVAIL were you birthed and preserved.
Continue therein and birth others."

Lost in the aura of glory that enveloped that little room
Anna crouches beside the dear old lady
And also cry out "Lord, restore."

It's high time you push and TRAVAIL
Arise Anna!
And birth many more
For the harvest is plentiful
But the labourers are few
Now is the time to TRAVAIL
And birth many more Anna(s)..

Somewhere, someone is waiting
Hoping somehow, to see a new day dawning
A day that will supposedly bring an end
The evils of the previous year
A day that will bring an end
To the troubles we have here..

The old year will go with every bad news, every bad circumstance
The old year will go with the deaths and accidents
Once the new year comes, it will bring new life
A new system will arise
Everyone will make a resolution
New energy will be in motion
Oh! This is the delusion
That has been in our hearts for long
Hoping that a new year brings a lot of goodies along..

I know we've always believed that philosophy
and I wish I could tell you that what we've believed is true
But then, I'd be giving you a hope that's untrue
If ever I tell you
that a new year brings along new life..

Listen to the truth
Tomorrow, you're gonna wake up to a brand new day
Just like every other day the Lord has made
The sun would not be different
The sky won't change its colour
Even your body's gonna be the same
Same height, same texture
Nothing's ever gonna change if the inner man is not changed..

Beloved, a new year is going to come
when you give up your old life
A new year is going to come
When you forsake the old man and embrace the new nature
A new year is going to come
If you let old things pass away and cling to Christ
The day you forsake the works of the flesh
The day you denounce the old life you've lived in darkness
and embrace a brand new life in Christ Jesus
That fateful day you submit to the Holy Spirit
and live to do His will
That very day
A new year has began

And, it will profit you nothing
To live all your days in the old year
Because, only the new and transformed man
has a resting place in eternity
Only the new man can see the LORD..
