Dr Helen Isamoh bags Humanitarian icon of the year award

In a celebration of unwavering commitment and remarkable dedication to Humanitarian gestures, the organiser of the annual FACE OF CROSS RIVER honoured Helen Isamoh-Egodo (PhD), the CRS commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and poverty alleviation as the Humanitarian icon of the year.

Renowned for her unyielding passion and tireless endeavours in supporting humanitarian aid and programs committed to expediting the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals in Cross River state and beyond, Dr Helen is a noble Nigerian who believes that wealth must be used as a force for good, above all other things.

Her contributions span a wide spectrum of humanitarian endeavours.These range from providing essential aid in conflict and disaster areas in Northern senatorial district of CRS likewise economic empowerment of the underserved.

Mr Chris Banks Edet on behalf of CK Production commended the commissioner not only for her tangible contributions but also for her altruistic leadership and unwavering dedication to humanitarianism and national development.

Dr Helen Isamoh-Egodo in her speech expressed gratitude for the honour bestowed upon her. She emphasised that the award serves as motivation and a call to go the extra mile in empowering more Cross Riverians and Nigerians at large. She reaffirmed her commitment to continue striving towards creating a Cross River state where compassion and support are extended to all, regardless of tribe or circumstance.

The Special Assistant Student Affairs to the Governor of Cross River State paid a Courtesy visit on the Director, Department of State Service in her Office.

The engagement was insightful as I highlighted the crucial role of collaboration between government agencies for the safety and wellbeing of students residing and studying in Cross River State.

During our discussions, we emphasized the importance of maintaining a secure and conducive environment for students to thrive academically and socially and otherwise. We also explored opportunities for enhancing intelligence- sharing mechanisms to address emerging security challenges facing educational institutions both at the tertiary and secondary levels.

Furthermore, I asserted that the Roles of Department of State Service in the people's first government of HE, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu, as regards Students affairs is multifaceted, encompassing security, intelligence, crisis management and preventive measures to safeguard the educational environment and promote the wellbeing of students and members of Staff.

Dr. Izuagbe, fsi, mni, in her response reassured me of their commitment to ensuring the security of our institutions and educational facilities and the broader student community.

I look forward to continued collaboration and partnership in safeguarding the interests of students and promoting a culture of safety and excellence in our educational system whereby promoting scholarship and enterprise development amongst student in the state.

Delta Inter-communal Crisis:
22 soldiers on rescue mission ambushed, killed

BOMADI—Twenty-two military men on rescue mission to Okuama community in Ughelli South local government area, Delta State, yesterday, have been confirmed dead, who were reportedly ambushed and taken unawares by armed fighters of the community.

Recall that, Wednesday this week, the Bomadi Division of the JTF led by Maj. Jaffa embarked on a rescue mission to Okuama community to free a kidnapped youth, Mr Anthony Aboh, an indigene of neighbouring Okoloba community in Bomadi Local Government Area, who was abducted over the lingering land dispute between the two communities.

According to a source, who was a civilian in the military team, the commander and his men were taken unaware while on their way back to the waterfront after a deadlocked round table discussion in the Okuama community hall over the kidnapped youth.

"We were coming back to our boats after the unfruitful discussion to release the kidnapped victim of Okoloba community. Suddenly, there were rains of bullets coming from all directions and some of us managed to escape. Many people were killed during the ambush, including the former honourable from Okoloba community, who reported the matter to the JTF.

"But, the commander and other officers were held hostage and taken to an unknown destination towards the creek opposite the community", he said.

Our findings also revealed that, twenty-two military men have been firmed dead at Okuama community, among them are one Lt coloniel, 2 majors, One Captain and eighteen soldiers.

More so, the lifeless body of the kidnapped youth, Mr Anthony Aboh, has been recovered floating on River Forcados.

According to an Okoloba community source, "We found the lifeless body of Mr Anthony Aboh floating on River Forcados near Ayakoromor community, and like other victims, he was blindfolded with hands tied behind his back".

ABI PDP HOLDS POST-ELECTION STAKEHOLDERS MEETING

ABI Local Government Chapter of the PDP holds post-election enlarged stakeholders meeting to X-ray the party performance in the last election and to strategies a way forward and also received defectors from APC

The meeting was also organised to kick-start a rebuilding process, checkmate internal democracy, promote inclusiveness and build a united force. The meeting was fully attended by key stakeholders, Chapter/State Exco, candidates of the last elections, Wards Excos, Ward leaders across the ten council ward, polling unit agents and heads of canvases, leaders of unit and party's faithful.

The meeting held in Abi PDP Chapter Headquarters on Saturday to look at the welfare of the party, build more grass roots relationship with the people and strategize for the future of the party in Abi.

The party’s chapter Chairman, Mr Victor Bassey, said the meeting would provide the opportunity to review the 2023 general elections and to share ideas on how to strengthen the party.

According to the chapter Chairman, Anybody leaving PDP to another party amidst the dwindling economy, increase in commodity, insecurity, high price of fuel and other commodity, daily increase in price, hardship and kidnapping is part of the problems in the Country.

The workaholic Chapter Chairman advised party members cm Stakeholders to be steadfast, committed focus & united, returning back to Ward and put the party together to avoid misinformation by distractors. Knowing that PDP is bouncing back to continue the building of the nation & take back power from this confused and unreliable party that has cost this untold hardship to Nigerian.

The stakeholders unanimously appreciated the chairman's efforts, resilience and passion in running the party's affairs with utmost transparency and dedication

Highpoint of the meeting was the reception of decampees from the APC to PDP, reconciliation of members on post-election issues and more.

Mr Eni Ekum aka Tunghene, speaking on behalf of the defectors assured the PDP of unalloyed loyalty and support, calling on Nigerians to reject APC in totality based on their wrong ideology, corruption promotion, lack of leadership potential, low mental planning and wrong decision making. He called on those still supporting APC as enemies of Nigerians.

The auspicious event held on Saturday 9TH MARCH 2024 at PDP Secretariat, itigidi, Abi LGA.

“Five coffees please. Two for us and three hanging.”

They paid, they took their two coffees and left.

I asked the waiter. "What’s this about hanging coffees?"

“Wait and you'll see."

Some more people came in.

Two girls asked for a coffee each, they paid & left.

The following order was for seven coffees and it was made by three women - ‘three for them and four hanging coffees.’

I was left wondering...what is the meaning of the hanging coffees, they leave.

Then, a man dressed in worn clothes, who looks like he might be homeless, arrives at the counter and asks sincerely...

“Do you have a coffee hanging?"

“Yes we do, sir.”

They serve him a coffee.... I got my answer.

People pay in advance for a coffee that will be served to whoever can't afford a hot drink.

This tradition started in Naples.

Amazingly, it has spread throughout the world’s cities and towns.

It’s also possible to order not only "hanging coffees" but also a sandwich or a full low cost meal.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could all start doing this in the cities and towns where we live?

Small kindnesses like this can impact so many lives, in ways we could never imagine.

Maybe we should all try it.😊❤️
