TRUTH BE TOLD

In as much as modern Innovative Agricultural practice (Greenhouse) such as hydroponics, aquaponics and aeroponics are sexy, beautiful and eye catching for the news, journalist and other media houses.

When you see how structured they are, you will fall in love with them BUT As a business person. You do not fall in love with technology but You are concern and logical about things that will bring you profit that is your output.

The media houses and others will not pay you. In as much as they will increase your reach and put you out there. Will they pay your business bills? The Answer is NO.

Your customers are the ones paying the bills and when you customers or your target audience are the local market women. You will be joking to be spending so much on production and not making profit because AGRIBUSINESS IS NOT A SHOW BUSINESS.

If You can achieve your end goal products( safe food, sustainability, not harmful to the environment and consumers, less stress and profitability) with open field farming. No need to stress yourself to pouring millions into the construction of Greenhouses.

For purpose of business and profit, produce what your target markets will pay anything for and give quality value.

Greenhouses(soiless farming) are sustainable for the future especially in utilizing land/space, farm labour, water usages, reduction of environment pollution and soil degradation as a result of chemicals.

AGRICULTURE TODAY: the challenges of the global agriculturural system.

Agriculture today! Before we can talk about Agriculture today, we need to consider what was Agriculture yesterday. What was Agriculture before now? What do our ancestors practice? What was available to them?

Agriculture in Nigeria Today face a lot of challenges which we were not prepared for. That is why food is still a problem in a country with so much farmers.

More than 75% of Nigerians are farmers but we are still not food sufficient. We do not need more farmers but we need More output in our food production.

Some of the challenges that Agriculture and food face today is

-POPULATION GROWTH CHALLENGE: we have more mouth to feed and less production. Not as a result of lack of farmers but reduction of food output because of our crude system of farming.

-CLIMATE CHANGE : this pose a difficult task for farmers because farmers can no longer predict the weather conditions unlike before.

- FOOD SEASONALITY: Although there are most food we cannot control with respect to this eg mango etc we can therefore use technology to solve this with respect to vegetables and other short term annual crops

- FOOD WASTAGE : We are complaining of lack of food but the funny thing is alot of food are wasted due to spoilage especially during the movement from the farm to the market or final consumer therefore this can be reduced by the use of storage facilities in designated areas.

There are other challenges Sha ...

One thing is to identify the challenges and another is to solve them or reduce them and make money while solving them and That is what official wants to teach.

UGU IN GREENHOUSE(PROTECTED ENVIRONMENT)

YES! I am as surprised as you are too. I saw Ugu leave also known as flunted pumpkin (Telfairia occidentalis) leaves inside a greenhouse.

Is it for show business or for profitability?

Well I will try to explain with my understanding

Flunted pumpkin leave also known as UGU leave is a vegetable that grows in almost everywhere in Nigeria and mainly used for preparing various mouth watering delicacy such as Egusi soup, ogbonor soup, vegetable/okro soup etc.

The demand for this product is high all year round.

During the rainy season, it is usually cheap and during the dry season, it is usually expensive.

When you want to export your produce, it must meet some specific requirements which greenhouse will allow you get easily.

Why spend so much on a greenhouse just to produce what you can just get by planting on bare ground?

Well to my better understanding, greenhouse is to get maximum yield while minimizing the usage of water, space and other agro chemicals and even labour.

Truth be said, in the coming years it will be difficult to get farm labourers. If I am lying ask those with huge farms how they are managing their current workers. Some go as far as Benin republic and other countries to get farm workers but at the end of the day, there are still one issue or the other.

Using greenhouse to grow some vegetables might not be profitable for the first few years after construction but on the longer run. You will see the profitability.

I ask myself how do those huge brands like Nestle, Unilever and other make their money from selling Maggie and other low priced produce after buying and setting up sites and equipment for huge sum of money.

But those companies are in profit because they sell in large scale. This is the same with green house.

The more greenhouse, the more you produce, the more profit...

WHAT ARE WE TEACHING OUR CHILDREN

Parenting is one of the most difficult task in this current information age. Bringing a child into this world is more easier than actually bringing out the potential in that child. The environment is currently toxic for the development of innocent children.

Back in the days, the entire community parents a child. When a child misbehaves or commit atrocities. You 'll be surprised that the parent will not be the one to punish him/her. But nowadays you dare not punish any child who's not yours, especially when you re not married or looking for the fruit of the womb. The insult and reaction from the said parent you will make you regret ever attempting to correct that child.

Children this days are expose to so many vices and many parents are ignoring their duties. They leave their primary duty as parent to schools.

They forget the school of these days are in business of harvesting more students, they don't even care about the morals of your child. Most of the teachers are not paid very well and are seriously warned not to flog or discipline the children.so its non of their business if your child turns out wayward.

The economy of our current country is contributing to the failure of parenting. You see parents leave the home as early as 5am/6am and return by 9pm. From Monday to Saturday.

On Sunday they would have spent with the family, they would attend various meetings and afterwards try to sleep awaiting the next week.

Parent of my generation hardly know their children. That is why you hear so many funny and evil reports of children practicing one thing or the other and the parents will be shocked and even wonder where they learnt those act from.

If we don't bring up good children, then like people always say "THERE IS NO HOPE FOR THIS COUNTRY"

Parents all in the name of looking modern, dress indecently exposing their bodies, they in turn buy such cloths for their children especially the female folks.

Sorry to say this but many parents are still children. "Children are giving birth to children" . NO sense of maturity. If you listen to the words some mothers say in front of their children, you will wonder if they are in their right minds or they are okay. You engage in adult discussions in front of your child.

Any child you see today is capable of either restoring or destroying the society. Parents needs to wake up from their slumber.

Parenting is everyone's duty because even if you try to bring up your child in the right way. The toxics ones, the ones whose parent have left to their own fate might influence your children and derailed them from the right morals you have taught them due to peer pressure.

Parents do you know children hardly respect their teachers now?

The schools you enrol your wards to don't discipline them. They advise them. I laugh in Swahili language. What do a 7 year understand in advise? Someone whose brain is still developing and trying to understand life, I still stick with the words of famous wise king solomon " SPARE THE ROD SPOIL THE CHILD"

Nigeria Is not a place you advise children to change, you advise them after you have disciplined them with the rod of correction.

I have so many things to write, I will stop here for now.

COGENT REASONS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER USING PURE HONEY ON YOUR SKIN CONTINUATION

4.LIGHTEN SCARS

Honey is a natural moisturiser as well as a natural antiseptic. This not only keeps your skin soft and healthy, but also makes sure less of a scar is left behind. So how does something as basic as honey do this? It minimizes any inflammation and helps heal the skin faster. Additionally, the anti-oxidants present in honey help repair damaged skin.

How to use honey to lighten scars:

Mix one spoon raw honey with one spoon coconut oil or olive oil. Apply to the affected area, and massage with the tips of your fingers in a circular motion for one to two minutes. Place a hot washcloth over your skin, and let sit until cool. Repeat daily.

5.USEFUL IN SUNBURN:
Honey is known to be one of the best home remedies for treating burns. Honey promotes healing by decreasing any inflammation and provides nutrition to the damaged tissues. This is what makes honey an amazing remedy for sunburns.

How to use honey on sunburns:

Mix one part raw honey with two parts pure Aloe Vera gel. Apply gently to sunburnt skin.

6.FIGHT ACNE AND PIMPLES :
Honey has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that aids in not only in the removal of excess oil from the surface of the skin but also clearing out any blockages or clogged pores, which if not treated can cause constant breakage of acne and pimples on the skin.

How to use honey on acne & pimples:
Apply raw honey on the acne - prone areas. Leave it for 15 – 20 minutes and rinse it off with tap water.

COGENT REASONS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER USING PURE HONEY ON YOUR SKIN

1.MOISTURIZES SKIN DEEPLY:
The reason why honey is often found as a base ingredient for almost every beauty product is because it deeply moisturises the skin from deep within. The enzymes present in Honey enables it to easily seep into the skin while conditioning it and softening it from deep within.

HOW TO USE HONEY AS A MOISTURIZER
Use one spoon of honey on clean, dry skin, and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with cool water. It will serve as a perfect moisturizing mask.

2.ACT AS A PORE CLEANSER:
Very few person are aware that honey can be used to cleanse pores and get rid of blackheads. Since Honey contains antioxidants, antiseptic, and antibacterial properties, it helps to rid your skin of blackheads by removing dirt from pores. It then hydrates and tightens skin pores for clear complexion.

HOW TO USE HONEY AS A PORE CLEANSER

Try mixing one spoon raw honey with two spoons jojoba oil or coconut oil. Apply to clean, dry skin, and massage gently in a circular motion, avoiding your eye area. Rinse with cold water.

3.GENTLE EXFOLIATOR:

Artificial Exfoliators often cause your skin to go red and may cause irritation. Say goodbye to all the inconvenience by simply switching to honey as your exfoliator. Honey helps exfoliate your face & skin by gently removing the dead skin cells. This in turn also leaves your face with a brighter complexion.

HOW TO USE HONEY AS AN EXFOLIATOR:

Mix two spoons honey with one spoon baking soda. Splash your skin with water, and then gently rub the concoction on your face or body in a circular motion. Rinse well.

"Youth obey the clarion call
Let us lift our nation high
Under the sun or in the rain
With dedication and selflessness
Nigeria is ours, Nigeria we serve"

Every present and past corp member know this song. The part that really struck me in this song is "Nigeria is ours" No matter what we do, we are still Nigerian, Even though so many of us hate this country Now.

Ask you yourself this question
-Why do you hate Nigeria?
-Is Nigeria that is the location of this country so terrible?
-Who do you hate in Nigeria?
-What do you hate about Nigeria?

Nigeria is not the problem, but Nigerians are the problem, from the leaders to the followers, we are all the problem of this dear country.

Nigeria is not cursed but Nigerians are the ones cursing the country.

Nigerians hate seeing other Nigerians progress, why?

Our leaders feel its their right to do what they like because Nigerians hate good leaders and we don't hold them accountable.

Nigerians are using their selfish interest to kill Nigeria.

When you Hate, despise, destroy
Disdain this nation Nigeria, you only hate yourself.

No leader is coming to save Nigeria, unless Nigerians are ready to save themselves.

DARK AGE AGRICULTURE
When I watch documentaries about agriculture and what other countries are doing with the agro industry, I know we are still in the dark ages. And we are not serious about food security. Our leaders and senators keep preaching agriculture and love to use the sentence
"The youths are lazy"
"The youths don't want to farm"
I quite agree with them that some youth are lazy, and we love awuf money , we love free money, but I will boldly say they are getting it wrong
You are preaching Agriculture and still expect maximum food production with hoes, cutlas and shovel. The joke of the 21st century! How can you achieve maximum food production when there are no proper machineries.
Watch all other industries in Nigeria and even around the world, government and other stake holders collaborate with individuals to produce machines, tools and applications to make things and work easier and better for example look at the automobile industry, there are softwares and machines you will just connect to your car and it will give you analysis of the fault of the car and what to do next, which saves time for both the repairer and the owner.
There are various tools being implemented by other industries to make work easier and faster, but when they mention agriculture, most of our leaders just remember cutlass and hoes, Agriculture has gone beyond that. The agro-industry needs machineries, instead of our leaders to tell us to go to the farms, let athem provide tractors, planters and things that will encourage commercial farming at a subsidized rate, our manufacturing industries should be encouraged to produce farm machineries and tools to help farmers.
Here in the south south, especially Delta state, you hardly see tractors cultivating lands for Agriculture and they are preaching Agriculture to us. How can we feed just our state with holes and cutlass? This is the reason we depend on the north for food year in and year out.
Our leaders should STOP preaching and START providing
We the youth are saying "NO to Cutlass and holes, we need machineries to drive Agriculture forward and increase food security and ensure zero hunger (SDG2).
