Part 4:
“After we brought him home, we noticed he would walk out of his bed at night and walk to the dustbins to look for food. We devised a means to help him overcome that phase of his life. So, we bought a loaf of fresh bread every evening. We would leave the loaf in his hands so he can sleep off and wake up to see the bread, and know he will never have to scanvange for food like he used to in the past.”

Edita is officially the boss of the house here in the village! 😂💖

Since we arrived, she has finally warmed up to the new environment. She now lets people touch and carry her—though Madam is still selective about who gets the privilege! 😂 Her grandparents and siblings are OBSESSED with her, spoiling her silly. She now owns chickens, turkeys, and even a goat! 😅 Imagine that at this age, she’s already a landlord of livestock.

Yesterday, Edita decided to walk around the compound on her own because she loves walking around, even though she’s not perfect yet and still needs a bit of guidance. In her quest for independence, she fell down, and let me tell you, that was the end of my peace! 😂

Her grandparents and siblings didn’t take it lightly. The way my dad scolded me, you’d think I intentionally let her fall! Even this morning, he was still warning me that she’s his first granddaughter, and he won’t tolerate any carelessness from me. He even said if I can’t take good care of her, I should leave her here and go back to my husband’s house alone! 🤣

Honestly, it’s been both funny and heartwarming to see how much love and attention she’s getting. This village visit has been full of drama and laughter, and I’m cherishing every bit of it. How’s your own week going?

Village life is truly unmatched😋👌🌾
There’s nothing like the aroma of food cooking on firewood the smoky flavor adds this unbeatable sweetness that gas or electric stoves just can’t deliver! 😋 There's just this unique flavor you can't replicate anywhere else 😁 everything tastes extra special here in the village.😋

The cool breeze, the sound of chickens in the yard, and the beauty of life’s simplicity make this place feel like home. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the best things in life are the simplest ones.

Still soaking in the peacefulness of the village, one delicious meal at a time! How's your day going?

My hometown, Ufía, is a place of warmth, hard work, and resilience. We are known for our hospitality and the way we welcome strangers like family. Our people are naturally kind and generous, always ready to share what they have, no matter how small.

Agriculture is the backbone of our community, and the fertile lands of Ufía make it one of the most productive areas in Benue State. We grow a variety of crops like yams, cassava, maize, rice, groundnuts etc. Cassava is a staple for us, and we process it into garri, fufu, and other foods that are enjoyed across the country. Palm oil production is also a big part of our economy.

The abundance of food in Ufía has always attracted traders from different states. People come to buy our produce at affordable rates.

However, in recent years, life in Ufía has been marked by fear and uncertainty. The activities of Fulani herdsmen have become a major threat to our way of life. Their cows often stray into our farms, destroying crops that people have worked so hard to grow. But that’s not the worst of it. These herdsmen have also brought violence to our community. Many of our people have been killed trying to defend their farms. It has reached the point where many farmers are too afraid to go to their fields, fearing for their lives.

The result of this is devastating. Farms are left unattended, food production has dropped, and scarcity is now becoming a reality. What hurts the most is that the government seems to be doing little to address this crisis. We feel abandoned and helpless as our lands, our lives, and our livelihoods are at risk.

Despite these challenges, the people of Ufía remain resilient. We hold onto our traditions, our faith, and our unity, hoping for a better future. There’s a saying among us that "no matter how long the night is, morning will surely come." That’s the hope we carry in our hearts, even as we face these tough times.

Ufía is a land of great potential, but it needs peace to thrive.

HOW CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS🎄 IN MY HOMETOWN NEARLY SENT ME TO MY EARLY GRAVE 😭 ( The Night Fear Grabbed Me in my hometown)

Visiting my hometown, Utonkon in Benue State, always comes with surprises, but this one almost sent me straight to my ancestors😩

So, my friend came to visit me. After a long day of eating pawpaw fruit, gisting and gossiping under the mango tree, we decided to watch a movie to wind down. (Big mistake).

My friend picked a horror movie We watched this movie about some haunted forest spirit and also watched one Nigerian movie.

By 9-10 PM, my friend said it was time to go so I offered to es**rt her to the junction and I didn’t think twice about it.

The walk to the junction was uneventful, except for the occasional sound of crickets and frogs. My friend kept joking about the movie, saying, “What if that spirit is watching or following us now?” I laughed nervously.

We got to the junction, and I watched her hop on a bike. As her okada disappeared into the distance, I realized something horrifying: I had to walk back home alone.🙆

The road was eerily quiet. The wind suddenly felt colder. Every sound seemed amplified. Was that a bird or a spirit clearing its throat? Why did the trees suddenly look like they had eyes? I started walking briskly, then jogging, then full-on running like a thief being chased.

Out of nowhere, I heard a rustling sound behind me. My heart did a somersault. I froze. Sweat poured down my face like I just come out from the bathroom . “Who’s there?!” I shouted, trying to sound brave but failing miserably.

The rustling got louder. My legs refused to move. I started reciting all the prayers I knew. “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want…”

But as I turned back I didn't see anything I started my journey home again. My heart started beating like DJ Spinall’s drum set. Was it a ghost? A witch? Or that demon from the movie we just watched? Fear gripped me.

I increased my pace, pretending to be unbothered. But I don’t know who I was deceiving. My head was replaying all the scenes from the horror movie. My neck started feeling hot.

Then I heard a “Kpa! Kpa!” sound behind me. My people, I nearly fainted on the spot. My legs refused to move. I turned slowly, ready to beg the ghost for forgiveness, only to see nothing again.

As I continued, I started singing church songs to boost my confidence. “Who has the final say? Jehovah has the final say…”

Then I saw something that made my blood run cold. A shadow tall, dark, and moving. I screamed, “Jesus! is this how I'm going to die? How will my daughter survive without me? Is this how I will live My families and loved ones 😭. God please I don't want to die 😭 my legs finally remembered how to run, and I dashed off like I was competing with Usain Bolt.

But the shadow was still following me. “Who is that?!” I shouted, my voice cracking. No answer. My slippers flew off, but I didn’t care. I was ready to run barefoot back to my husband house if necessary.

When I finally reached my compound, I burst in and I was gasping for air like someone who just survived a lion attack. My Dad came out. ''Juliet, Why are you running like that?” who is chasing you?

I said nobody I thought Edita is awake and already crying so I decided to do a little exercise home 😁.... He said that was too much what if you fall? I told him am okay and went inside the sleep

That night, I couldn’t sleep I was thinking the whole thing and laughing so hard because I realized it was just my imagination that wants to kill me 🤣😅😂

The toughest moments of motherhood so far 😥🥺😭... Edita's Christmas adventure (PART 3)🥺

This December, we took Edita to my hometown for the first time, excited for her to meet families and experience her roots. But after just two days, our joy turned into one of the scariest moments of my life.my baby fell sick for the very first time.🥺

It started with a high fever, than purging and vomiting 🤮 🥺 and before I knew it, my once super-active, playful little girl became so weak and frail. As a mom, nothing prepares you for the pain of seeing your child like that.😔

We rushed her to the hospital, where she was admitted immediately.

She was placed on four drips, given injections, and put on several medications.Watching her tiny hands struggle with the drips broke me completely.💔😔 Her cries during injections were unbearable I felt so helpless, like I had failed to protect her from this pain.🥺😔

We spent over 24 hours in the hospital, and to make it even harder, she marked her 10-month birthday on a hospital bed.😭 No cake, no balloons, just prayers and a mother’s desperate hope for healing.😥

I kept wishing I could take all the pain away from her.😔
Her dad couldn’t stop calling both video and voice calls. Seeing his little girl in such a fragile state crushed him emotionally. He kept saying, “Why did we bring her here? Why did we let her go through this?” Honestly, I asked myself the same questions. The guilt was overwhelming.😭🥺

We both regretted bringing her to the village, questioning if the trip was worth all this pain.💔🥺

Every moment felt like forever, but God saw us through. Today, I’m so grateful to share that my baby girl is back to her happy, playful self. She’s eating, smiling, and even giving her signature side-eyes again! 🥰

This experience taught me something: motherhood is full of ups and downs, but the strength to keep going comes from the love we have for our little ones. To any mom currently caring for a sick child, you are strong, and you’re doing amazing.😊🥰❤️ Your baby will be fine.🙏😊

Have you ever had to watch your baby go through something similar?🥺

Edita’s First Christmas Adventure 🎄 (PART 2)

So, we finally traveled to my hometown for Christmas, and it’s a big one for Edita her first-ever trip at just 9 months old! I was so excited for her to meet family and feel all the love, but guess what? Baby girl is not having it! 😂

From the moment we arrived, she’s been glued to me like super glue. Nobody can carry her, not even for a second. She sees new faces and immediately starts crying her lungs out like, “Who are these people, and why are they looking at me?” 😅

It’s been a struggle. I didn’t come with her dad, so I’m handling everything solo. Going to bathe or even taking a quick bathroom break feels like a luxury now. Edita cries so loudly anytime I leave her sight😂😅

But hey, it’s her first time in a new place with so many unfamiliar faces it’s a lot for her tiny mind to process. I know she’ll eventually warm up to everyone (fingers crossed 🤞), but for now, we’re taking it one cry at a time.😜🤣😂😅

Edita’s First Christmas Adventure😁( it's story time 😅) PART 1

This Christmas was extra special we traveled to my hometown for the first time with baby Edita, who’s just 9 months old! From the moment we started packing, she was bubbling with excitement. You should have seen her smiling, laughing, and so curious about all the activity.

At the park, she was all giggles and kicking her tiny feet in joy. On the bus, she made it even more fun, “chatting” and flashing smiles at everyone, turning strangers into her new friends.🥰

But here’s the funny part nobody was allowed to carry her! She smiled and waved at them from a distance like, “Hi, I like you, but let’s keep it professional.” 😂😅

Little did my sweet girl know that she wouldn’t be seeing her daddy for now and that we’d be surrounded by so many new faces in my hometown. Since we arrived, she’s been super clingy.😩

No one can hold her or even come close without triggering her alarm system😅 a loud cry that makes you question your entire existence. 😅

I didn’t come with her dad, so it’s been just me and her, which makes it a bit tough. I can’t even bathe or use the bathroom without her crying like the world is ending.😩

But I understand this is her first time in a new place with so many unfamiliar faces, and it’s overwhelming for her tiny mind.😊

I’m hopeful she’ll adjust soon and start letting others help, but for now, it’s just the two of us navigating this adventure. 😁🥰

To all the moms traveling with clingy babies this holiday, you’re not alone! We’re surviving this together, one cry at a time.🤣😅

Have you had a similar experience? How did you handle it?
