OKOGBO: it was a moment of joy for members of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Ukpato ward 6 in orhionmwon local government area of Edo State following the massive defection of members of Labour Party and APC into the all Peoples Democratic Party PDP, at the party's monthly meeting held today the 21st of January 2024 in okogbo community, the administrative headquarters of the ward.

The meeting which was called at the instance of the leaders of the party and presided over by the ward acting chairman recorded high number of turnout from party faithfuls across the ward,

The acting chairman in his opening speech appreciated members for the peace and unity the party enjoy.

The high point of the event was the receiving of decampees from Labour party and the All Progressive Congress APC. The former woman leader of APC who spoke unbehalf of the women expressed gratitude towards the development the PDP has initiated in the ward and it environs.

She futher stated that, her decision to join the party is as a result of her will towards the development of Ukpato ward as the APC broom has become a symbol of poverty for the entire nation.

The Secratary of Labour party in his speech acknowledged the leadership style of hon. Newman Ugiagbe, "Hon. Newman Ugiagbe style of leadership is generally inclusive, he doesn't discremiate why then should i be in a separate party when I know he's a man with a heart of gold and ability to better everyone around. Edo First Lady Lauds New Era College @50, Reaffirms Govt’s Commitment to Return School to Sporting Glory

The Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, has commissioned facilities at the New Era College (NEC) in Benin City, Edo State, reaffirming the government’s commitment to restoring the school’s lost sporting glory.

The commissioning was held at the school premises during an event to mark the College’s golden jubilee, with the theme, “Together we stand.”

Celebrating the College on its 50th anniversary, the Edo First Lady commended the old students of the school for their contributions to the growth and development of the school as well as the State.

She said, “General Samuel Ogbemudia built this school to develop young sporting talents, which made the school the foremost college in Nigeria, following the achievements in sports.

“We have a governor trying to reform every sector of the State’s economy including sports. He has done well with sports, using Bendel Insurance Football Club, as a case study, as it has returned to winning ways.

“The school must be returned back to its glory days in sporting activities, producing great men and women that will make the State, nation, Africa, and the world proud. This school must be developed back to its sporting days. This school must revive the swimming pool, basketball and volleyball courts, badminton and other sporting facilities.”

Obaseki continued: “This school must be developed and it's intentional and children who are sport-oriented must be brought here and nurtured. All sporting facilities must be returned back to the college, which will make Edo State the training grounds for nurturing athletes in Nigeria.”

She added, “The whole idea of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT) is to make Edo State the centre for sports development and grooming of sportsmen and women. We have a lot of talent out there that needs to be harvested. One of the things I want to do with the BOWFT is to groom female teams in every secondary school in each local government to become future Falcon players. The governor will commit to do what he can do within the next one year.”

The National President, Worldwide of New Era College Old Students Association (NECOSA), Mr. Omoregie Joseph Enoma, while commending the governor for sustained investment in education, said, “The governor has approved that from next academic session, New Era College will start admitting boys into the school to make it a mixed school. He also promised to give us a mini-stadium. He has also approved water reticulation worth N7 million for the school.

Alaghodaro: Obaseki Commissions Edo’s First Tax Credit Road Construction, Ethanol Factory, Edo Refinery, Others

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has commissioned a 3.65km Road in Ologbo, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the State, constructed by Saro Africa under the State Government’s tax credit scheme.

The scheme targeted at revolutionizing the government’s approach to financing infrastructure to support development, making Edo State the first sub-national government to grant tax credit to investors.

The governor also commissioned the Edo Refinery, the Green Hill Ethanol Factory and other projects in Edo State undertaken to guarantee economic growth and development in the State.

Obaseki was accompanied by the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Blessing Agbebaku, and other top government functionaries.

At the 3.65km road construction project, the governor said, “First, it’s the first infrastructure tax credit project that we are undertaking in Edo State and by any sub-national. It's only the national government that can be able to give tax credits for the purpose of infrastructure.

“Wealthy taxpayers can use the tax to fund infrastructure projects such as the building of roads. When we saw that this was possible, we quickly issued an Executive Order. Commissioner for Finance, that law must be translated into law within the next 90 days so that we would have the infrastructural development and social investment tax credit law. Saro Africa took advantage; see what they have done with their tax credit, using it to build this road.

“I thank you for believing in us and taking the risk of building this road. We encourage other Nigerians as well as sons and daughters of Edo State to come with their tax credit to get the benefits for Edo State to enable us build our infrastructure. It's part of the mix of financing of building infrastructure.”

While inspecting the ethanol factory, Obaseki noted, “I am glad that so much progress has been made at the ethanol factory and the very vital and important sessions have been commissioned in phases. Five out of seven of the main facilities have been commissioned and it's only two left. The ones commissioned include cassava and water treatment, amongst others.

“This is just a pre-commissioning and opening. We are here to see how much progress they have made and we are quite pleased with the success. We have no doubt that they will meet their estimated time for this project, which is the first quarter of next year.

“This is important because it's better to imagine how much cassava will be procured from farms around. In addition to what we have to consume, we will be using more of our own products.

“This project is one out of three other facilities. Edo should expect more jobs for youths and we hope we would have fulfilled most of our promises made in 2016 where our youths lost hope and wanted to travel but we have brought hope, job, and development.”

He added, “We have to increase production domestically, because of the cost of importing products into this Country. The more we can produce, the less we depend on foreign exchange. We want to use what we have to boost production. Any Country that can't feed itself can't be called an independent nation.”

During the commissioning of Edo Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited, Governor Obaseki expressed delight at the progress made by his administration in attracting investment to Edo State.

He stated, “I am glad and can't express how excited I am to formally cut the tape and walk through this facility. This is one of the first investments we encouraged investors to make way back in 2017. To show our commitment, the State Government and EDSOGPADEC co-invested in this project. Like most projects, it has its own challenges but due to the doggedness of the promoters, they were able to overcome the challenges.

“This project is not only completed but we are looking at expanding by another 6,000 barrels per day. Our MoUs are now beginning to pay off, as people and the opposition who do not understand what MoUs mean are the ones who have a problem. We have to ensure that those that didn’t go to school govern us again.

“We have to sign an understanding with the private sector and investors to give them assurances that the government will be there to support this project. That was why we signed this MoU and several other MoUs.”

Obaseki added, “We are glad that the management of this Company and project have remained steadfast and use this opportunity to appeal to the Federal Government to align with what the State is doing as we have done our own bid from this project.

“We have raised the money, given them the land, communities supported, now the project is ready but no road to bring feedstock. We can’t get crude oil which is required as feedstock into the project, meanwhile, we are a crude oil exporting country.

“We are appealing to the Federal Government to support businesses and come to their aid to move this country forward. We will continue to support those businesses who have the raw materials to produce.”

The event which was held in igbanke as led by the LGA party chairman Hon. (Prince) Standley Iduoze recorded the presence of party bigwigs across the twelve wards of the local government including the hourabale member representing the good people of orhionmwon south constituency (chairman House committee on works) in the Edo State House Of Assembly. And the former commissioner for art, culture, tourism and diaspora affair Hon. Osaze Osemwegie Ero.

Also in our findings, the PDP candidate for Edo state House of assembly, Orhionmwon south constituency Comr. Bright Iyamu remain the only candidate who has never occupied any public office, and the above listed achievements were all executed with his personal funds.

Bright Aitenguoba Iyamu who hails from Iguododo Community, Ugboko Ward 5, in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, was born into the Royal Household of Late Chief D. O. Iyamu, the Efesoghoba of Benin kingdom.

He had his Primary Education at Uwa Primary School, Benin City, before he journeyed Immaculate Conception College, (I.C.C), and sealed his Secondary School Education in Benhall High School, both in Benin City, after which he proceeded to the prestigious University of Benin, (UNIBEN), where he bagged Bachelor of Science (B.Sc), in Banking and Finance in 2012.

*Yes o, Governor Obaseki is a positive oriented man*

1. A proclamation was issued for the House of Assembly to be inaugurated. Some members who were answerable to Oshiomhole, their godfather refused to be inaugurated simply because the godfather told them not to.

2. Governor Obaseki Inaugurated Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (ESIEC) and ESIEC brought out a time-table for the Local government election. However, legacy PDP went to court to stop the election and as we speak, the case is still in court.

3. The Airport at Auchi is still very much in view. The land has been acquired. The Location has been surveyed and the governor’s vision to see an airport in Auchi is unwavering. Recall the Gateway Agro-Cargo Airport was envisioned by former governor Gbenga Daniels, but was later commissioned by the present governor, Dapo Abiodun.

4. Edo state economy under the leadership of governor Godwin Obaseki has given jobs to well over 200,000 people. Edo state economy is bursting with innovation and entrepreneurship.

5. No government has done more to improve diaspora confidence and participation in Edo state than the government of governor Obaseki. From the comfort of their homes in the diaspora and on their phones, they can now process their CofO and be issued one within a maximum of period of three months. Since inception of the state, only 15,000 CofO has been signed but governor Obaseki alone has signed way over 20,000 CofO. That’s progress and that’s the definition of ease of doing business.

6. Edo Indigenes are carrying out projects everywhere in the state. All the complexes inside the new Nigerian Observer building, including “The Edo Creative Hub” are being built by a local engineer. Construction of schools and other big projects are also being done by local contractors as well as several others.

7. The beauty about the street lights is the sustainability of the project. No more “street light no de work o because fuel no de or diesel no de”. the street light is now being powered by Ossiomo Independent Power plant, with 24hrs uninterrupted power supply to homes and indeed, the street lights.

8. There are procedures to renting of government facilities and if anyone meets the procedures, permission to use the facilities will be granted, regardless of the personality or organization involved.
