A few days ago, I was with a friend name James.

James runs a software company where he develops software that helps business owners to manage their sales and inventory.

I have known James for over 5 years and am fully aware that he wants to grow his business
.. but James has a problem that he has refused to address to help his business.

Do you agree with me that James might remain stuck in his business for another 10 or 20 years if he does not do something about his business.

Yes, definitely he will.

But let me tell something you didn't know about James.

He is a hardworking young man who has actually run his business with over 4 staff members before life happened and his business was shutdown.

This was his experience between June 2015 till date.

And he has not yet recovered from that experience.

I know that you might be thinking by now.

Why haven't he been able to grow his business after about 5 years?

But before I give you the answer, here is what I have to tell about James.

He is good with proposal writing and presentation skills.

He commits lots of time, efforts and resources into his business but he lacks one things.

James believes that digital marketing is a waste of resources.

James can go door-to-door to market his business and to potential customers who may not be interested in his offer.

Let's assume that he sends 3 proposals to potential customers daily for the next 90 days.

That equal 270 proposals but unfortunately it doesn't work that way.

Here is why:

He needs to identify this potential customers.

He will go back to his office and prepare proposal.

He will rerun and submit the proposal.

With these back-and-forth, he cannot be able to reach 270 potential customers in 90 days.

He will also waste resources on transportation to and fro.

And only 1 or 2 leads will convert.

Do you already see why James have been stuck in his business for +5 years?

I bet you do.

I have proposed to James because his is my friend that if he will invest into digital marketing to attract leads, he will reach over 100,000 audience and +250 leads in 30 days.

If he gets 2% conversion for his software that he charges N50,000

He will have 5 sales on month 1( N50,000 x 5 = N250,000)

With +245 leads who will buy at a later date.

If he repeats this process in 90 days, he will have +300,000 audience, +750 leads and +15 sales (N50,000 x 15 = N750,000)

And if he repeats for 12 months
+120,000 audience, +3,000 leads and + 60 sales (N50,000 x 60 = N3,000,000) from new customers.

He will also convert 20% of his total leads (20% of 3,000 รท 60 = N3,000,000)

Total revenue in 12 months will be N6,000,000 for a software that requires little or no extra work from him.

He builds a software and sell it to a mass market.

He can juice the product by charge maintenance fee for any additional work.

Don't be like my friend James who does not want to take action towards growing his business.

Hey John,

2017 started a new phase in my life as I started selling online to people and earn from total strangers.

It's an exciting experience to see a total stranger pay for your products or services even without seeing you.

But before I go a ahead to show you some mistakes I made and the lessons that came with them.

I have been on this blue app as far back as 2004. Actually, I have been using social media since 2002 when yahoomail, Hotmail and oal was a thing.

Yes, I remember going to cybercafรฉ almost every day after school to buy time or use the remains from other people, lol ๐Ÿ˜†

We had the opportunity to chat with people on yahoomail chatbox and online business was not a thing that was wide spread like it is today.

Everyone is almost seling a thing or two on social media now.

But I missed the opportunity to build myself and my business on this blue app years ago when it was super easy to grow a following and attract the right audience faster than you can today.

I actually came across the popular Akin Alabi and Stephen Akintayo years back whne they were selling ebooks, bulk SMS and email list.

I was scared of putting myself out there because I thought that I didn't know enough to share with the world.

But I was wrong.

At that time, the Zucker villa was not money conscious(they were still building a community) and the algo was not manipulating the reach of your content like today where only 2% or less of your followers can see your posts.

Hey John as I am typing this, I'm not sure I will be able to post this for anyone to see them.

This is my personal confession to myself about the mistakes of the past that I wish I could reverse the hand of time.

But then it's life, we make mistakes and we learn from then and move forward.

I will try to be fast on this as I have list of things I hope to talk about but I will start by sharing a few lessons in hope that you starting from today will implement them and enjoy the benefits.

1. Define your purpose.

When the purpose of a thing is not clear, failure is inevitable.

Social Media was designed for two things
(a) A place to connect with your family and friends and share "what's on your mind"

(b) A marketing platform where buyers and sellers will meet and exchange value.

What if someone told you that the purpose of the blue app or any social platform from the moment it became an idea was (b), you definitely maynot have believed it.

Lesson 1. Before you start on anything, have a clear definition of your intentions. It guides your actions and path.

Lesson 2. In marketplace, what people say is not always what they mean. Find the underlying reason.

2. Be Intentional

Social Media is a social platform where you can connect socially with people beyond the physical meetup.

But as a person who has a clear definition of what your intentions are, be intentional about your daily activities on the blue app or any social platform.

Lesson 1. Become intentional what you post and how you post if your intention is to build a business using the blue app ๐Ÿ’™

Lesson 2. Be social but tie every post to the right intentions that drives visibility and revenue.

3. Be Value Driven

Now that you have your clear goal defined and you have become intentional about how you represent yourself, offer value.

Give more value than every other person within your industry/niche.

Niche simply means that you focus on solving one problem for a particular set of people.

Let's say that you have knowledge about helping Cake Bakers package and sell more cakes beyond their local market.

Lesson 1. Offer value by teaching what people may not find in the books but from personal experience.

Lesson 2. Give more than you expect in return and position yourself as an expert in your industry.

4. Build a platform

You need control over your tribe and community, and the best way to do that is to build a platform -

Facebook group

Email List

YouTube Channel

WhatsApp Group

Telegram Group and/or Channel.

Your goal is to build a loyal tribe and community who listens to you and follows your suggestions.

Lesson 1. Community mastery is key to your success on social media.

Lesson 2. You need to build loyalty and control the attention of your target audience if you want to win ๐Ÿ†

5. Cross Pollinate

Once you have build a platform with a loyal community and tribe, it's time to cross pollinate with other influencer like you.

Your goal is to increase your reach using the power of leverage. You will offer value to other people's community and invite them to do same in your community.

Lesson 1. Be seen beyond your community and show expertise by building a connection with others who are towing the same path but in different niche but same industry.

Lesson 2. You cannot solve every problem but your collaborate with others to solve biggers problems by looking at how both serve they market without conflict of interest.

6. Sell Your Knowledge

I guess here is where I made a major mistake in my online journey.

A lot of people are willing to exchange their money for that Knowledge of yours but you must understand how to create and package that your knowledge and sell it.

The knowledge business is expected to reach $ 331 billion dollars by 2025.

I remember someone telling that I have so much knowledge to share but I will wait till I proved concept.

But all you needed it to help the next person overcome a challenge that you had difficulty with.

It could be how to open an email address. Btw, I was so good at this that I was literally helping my classmates open their email addresses back then.

That could have been an ebook that could have generated millions for me.

Lesson 1. You are valuable and your knowledge can be packaged and sold to people.

Lesson 2. Focus on helping people that you are 2-4 steps ahead and don't complicate things for yourself.

Here are the two skill sets you must develop

1. Copywriting - the ability to write copy that drives action from the reader.

2. Content creation - the ability to create posts that people love to consume.

I will go deep into these two at a later time.

Hey John, I could go on to share but I guess that my point is already made and maybe I will continue in another post.

But one thing I want to assue you is that the best time to start was 20 years ago and the next best time to start is NOW.

You can start now and still achieve great results for yourself if you are COMMITTED( not just interested) in building a business using social media.

I capped Committed because I see alot of people shout "I'm Interested" whenever they are asked to indicate their intentions towards a particular action.

But being interested is not enough. Anyone can be interested but without being COMMITTED towards that goal, they will never achieve the desired result.

Hey John,

I am sitting here with a glass of orange juice at the balcony at home, relaxing and brooding over our lives over the past 2 years.

The weather is so cool and the sky is blue with sun rays shining towards my direction.

It's 1:15PM in the afternoon and I just came out of the shower after returning from picking up a parcel from Onitsha- South Mass transit.

The road was a little busy and traffic was as usual. It took me about 55 minutes to get there instead of 20.

It was actually a parcel that was ment to be delivered to me yesterday but there was confusion in the pickup location.

The delivery was sent to wrong location and when I was contacted, we reschedule to pick it up today.

Siting here, a few thoughts came to mind about how life has been and how in a matter of time we have transformed our lives in a big measure.

Btw, holding this parcel in my hand and all I could do us smile ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

It's a document that I found very difficult getting access to because of the financial obligation attached to it.

And this document will unlock keys to major opportunities for us (tears rolling down my eyes).

Looking back where we came from and how hard life has been, I'm still in awe.

But then I realised something that has been a major factor to this success - Perseverance.

Over that past few years, alot has happened that should have made us give up on everything but we didn't.

Yeah, there were times I did think about it and even tried it but something kept reviving my hope - the future I see.

And before I forget this, I wanted to also inform you that last week I was nominated for a major position as a stakeholder of a Youth Body.

It's a call to serve and I intend to use my office and the platform to shine light on many youths who are working hard to solve problems.

I would have loved go on talking about how I feel now but I guess I should reserve it for a physical meetup when you return from your journey this evening.

Maybe, we should hangout and celebrate ๐Ÿพ the success. I intend to I invite a few friends.

How To Make Proper Marketing Decision

Every marketing effort is geared towards brand awareness and customer acquisition.

Whether you are using traditional marketing or digital marketing.

While digital marketing tracks data and performance, traditional marketing makes it a little difficult.

But to make a proper marketing investment, here is the most important decision you must make.

Customer Life Time Value (CLTV)

Life Time Value is the measure attributed to an ongoing relationship between a customer and a product/brand.

ARPU is the Average Revenue Per User that is the average order/revenue value of each customer

Having this data helps in making proper marketing desicion.

It helps you calculate how much money each customer is worth over a certain period of time (usually 12 months)

How is it calculated?

LTV = ARPU x 1/churn

Let's say you are selling a product worth N12,000 or the average order from a customer from you is N20,000 and within 12 months, they can buy 3 times

N20,000 x 3 = N60,000

And to get 1 paying customers, you have to spend N3,000

Now you know that for every N5,000 invested in ads, you will make N60,000 sales over 12 months

Note that this is average.

Every customer is not worth the same value. While some are higher, some are lower.

This data lets you know that for every N90,000 spent in a month, you will get N1,080,000 in revenue

Which is 18 new paying customers

And they will continue to buy from you over years depending on what you are selling.

And here is what makes it better with digital marketing, you will generate at least 200 leads and and most of them won't buy from you immediately because of many reasons including

They do not know you

They do not have immediate need for what you are selling

They can't afford it at the moment

They are already buying from someone else and have not found reasons to switch

They are in a different location or don't trust you yet.

But having come in contact with you gives you the opportunity to tell them why they should buy from you.

Some leads will buy from you after 1 week and some will after 2 years.

To increase your chances or making sales, you need more leads.

Let say that you have 2,000 potential customers as leads and you market to them because they have shown interest in what you are selling.

2% conversion every month will give you 40 customer every month and the more leads you acquire, the more sales you can make.

It's 7:15 AM this morning and I was looking over my work yesterday and a thought cane to mind.

I spoke with a former client few months ago about what I was doing to help business owners drive more sales and he was excited and wanted to learn more about it.

I went ahead and shared a few insights that marveled him and he asked for a meetup.
