Theme: Accelerating Change to Solve the water and sanitation crisis.

You can also play your part.

The global campaign "Be the Change" encourages people to take action in their lives to change how they use, consume and manage water.

Additionally, water plays a vital part in health and well-being. Water is essential for our bodies to function - remove waste and carry nutrients and oxygen around the body. WORLD DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR ROAD TRAFFIC VICTIMS - 17Nov

THEME: Remember. Support. Act.

This World Day of Remembrance provides a global platform to remember those killed or seriously injured from incidences of road traffic accidents (RTAs); and draw attention to the need for a more-appropriate post-crash response for road traffic victims and their families, and call for accelerated action on road safety to save lives.

Road traffic injuries take the lives of around 1.3 million people every year.

PREVENTION OF ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

1. Avoid alcohol and drugs before driving.
2. Never assume to know the intentions of other drivers.
3. Stay away from distractions.
4. Avoid over-speeding
5. Pay attention to the road. Lack of concentration is the cause of many road crashes. While driving, avoid distractions like talking with your passengers, eating with one hand and driving with the other; making phone calls or checking your text messages.

Your life matter to your loved ones.

We at Iyienu Mission Hospital, wish you the best of the ember-season.

WORLD DIABETES DAY

World diabetes day is held every 14th November to commemorate the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting who co-discovered insulin in 1922.

World Diabetes Day provides an opportunity to raise awareness of diabetes as a global public health issue and what needs to be done, collectively and individually for better prevention, diagnosis and management of the condition.

CAUSES of diabetes:
1. Overweight, obesity and physical activity.
2. Insulin resistance
3. Genes and family history
4. Genetic mutations
5. Hormonal diseases.

SYMPTOMS
The main symptoms of diabetes are described as the "three polys": Polyuria, Polydipsia and Polyphagia.

Individuals with high risk for developing diabetes should be alert to these symptoms and seek medical attention, if they notice the above symptoms.

TYPES
There are four common types of diabetes:
- Type 1 diabetes
- Type 2 diabetes
- Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA); and
- Gestational diabetes.

PREVENTION of Type 2 Diabetes:
1. Reduce total carbohydrate intake: Eating foods high in refined carbs and sugar, increase blood sugar and insulin levels, which may eventually lead to diabetes.

Limiting total carbohydrates intake and choosing options that don't cause blood sugar spikes, may help reduce your risk.

2. Exercise regularly: Exercising regularly may increase insulin sensitivity, which may in turn, help prevent diabetes.

3. Drink water as primary beverage: Drinking water - instead of sugary beverages, may help manage blood sugar and insulin levels, thereby reducing risk of diabetes.

4. Lose excess weight: Modest weight loss may significantly reduce the risk of diabetes, particularly if the person has excess abdominal weight.

5. Quit smoking: Smoking - especially heavy smoking, is strongly linked to diabetes risk. Quitting has been shown to reduce this risk over time.

6. Reduce portion sizes: Avoiding large portion sizes may help reduce insulin and blood sugar levels; promote weight loss and decrease the risk of diabetes.

7. Cut back on sedentary behaviours: Limiting sedentary time - including prolonged sitting, has been shown to reduce the risk of diabetes.

Take charge to control your risk of diabetes.

WORLD RADIOGRAPHY DAY

World Radiography Day is an annual event held every 8th November to celebrate the anniversary of the discovery of X-rays by Wilhelm Roentgen on the 8th of Novembet 1895; and is organized by the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT).

Radiography is used to diagnose or treat patients by recording images of the internal structure of the body to assess the presence or absence of disease, foreign objects and structural damage or anomaly.

For example, the CT scan helps to diagnose muscle and bone disorders such as bone tumors and fractures. It is used to pinpoint the location of a tumor, infection or blood clot. It also guides procedures such as surgery, biopsy and radiation therapy.

At Iyienu Mission Hospital, we ensure patient safety as we provide the following radiological services, which are highly affordable:

- CT Scan
- X-rays
- Mammography
- Echocardiogram (2D & 3D)
- ECG
- Ultrasonography (ultrasound services).

Why not visit us today.

WORLD POLIO DAY

Polio (or poliomyelitis) is a disabling and potentially-deadly disease caused by the polio virus.

The virus spreads from person to person and can infect a person’s spinal cord, causing paralysis (inability to move parts of the body).

There is no cure for polio, but it can be prevented with safe and effective vaccination which is why you should always make sure that your child is completely vaccinated.

Anyone who is unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated is at risk for developing paralysis if infected with the polio virus.

Iyienu Mission Hospital congratulates all the stakeholders in Nigeria for the eradication of polio. If you have any reports of any suspected cases, do not hesitate to report to any hospital nearest to you.
