ANAMBRA DEPUTY SPEAKER CONDOLES WITH AWKA WARD 3 APGA CHAIRMAN, OVER FATHER'S DEATH.

The Deputy Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Chukwuma Okoye on Saturday, April 27, 2024, commiserated with the Awka Ward 3 APGA Chairman, Hon. Okwuchukwu Nweke, over the death of his father, Late Ichie Christopher Nweke Ugbaja.

The Deputy Speaker in a condolence message described the passing of Ichie Christopher Nweke as a glorious exit and urged the family to take solace in the legacy he left behind.

"The death of Ichie Christopher Nweke is a glorious one, he lived a fulfilled life and died at a very old age. Hon. Okwuchukwu Nweke Is the Chairman of APGA Awka Ward 3 and a dedicated party stalwart, I'm here today to commiserate with him and the family of Ugbaja, I urge the family and the entire Awka community to take solace in his legacy and the life Papa lived while on earth."

The Anambra state House of Assembly has expressed confidence that the completion of Mmiata Nzam road will open up Anambra West local government area for more agricultural activities.

The law makers stated this in a resolution shortly after supporting a motion during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Mr Somtochukwu Udeze at the Legislative Chambers.

The Sponsor of the motion , Mr Patrick Udeoba representing Anambra West constituency, said the Mmiata Nzam road very strategic and of great economic importance to the people of the area.

Mr Udeoba noted that the governor by almost completing the road, has make do his campaign promises to the people that he will complete the road which is the only access for them to get to the local government headquarters.

The law maker while commending the governor for the kind gesture, notes that the road will aid farmers to evacuate their produce to places where they are needed.

Supporting the motion, Mr Anayo okpalaeke representing Aguata constituency One, and Mr Jude Akpua representing Njikoka constituency two commended the governor for delivering the road to the people and being consistent in executing projects

Emma Nwafoe Orumba South, Chairman House Committee on Works, said the present administration did a great work on the road which the previous administrations awarded but never completed.

He expressed the hope that the road will stand the rest of time for the durability and standard work done by the contractor.
The Deputy Speaker, Mr Chukwuma Okoye while speaking in favor of the motion, said the governor did not only declare a state of emergency on roads across the state but went ahead to deliver quality projects that will last more than twenty years .

According to Mr Okoye who represents Awka South Constituency, 2 , the Mmiata Nzam road no doubt will encourage farmers in the area to produce more , thereby contributing to the food security of the state.

The Speaker, Mr Udeze who said he had visited the road on an inspection visit, confirmed the durability and pace or work done on the project.

Empowerment Scheme: Anambra Deputy Speaker, Okoye Empowers Over 20 Constituents

The Deputy Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Chukwuma Okoye has disbursed cash worth two million, four hundred thousand naira to 20 of his constituents to continuation of his efforts to cushion the effects of the economic hardship bedeviling the country.

The exercise is the second phase of the empowerment programme geared towards looking after the poorest of the poor in the society and supporting their businesses.

Addressing the gathering at his compound in Amawbia, Honourable Okoye who also represents Awka South II Constituency, explained that the gesture was designed to complement the efforts of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in delivering democracy dividends to the people despite political affiliations.

The Anambra Deputy Speaker revealed that a monitoring team will continue to keep a close watch on the beneficiaries to ensure judicious use of the cash awards.

The Lawmaker appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his giant efforts in repositioning the constituency with developmental projects and assured the unalloyed support of the area to his second term bid.

In their remarks, the Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in Awka South Local Government Area , Barrister Chukwuma Lawrence and former Deputy Speaker of Anambra state House of Assembly, Honourable Harford Oseke noted that Right Honourable Okoye has justified the mandate given to him by his people through the empowerment of his constituents and enjoined the people to be faithful to the All Progressives Grand Alliance as the party is committed to delivering the dividends of democracy.

Some of the beneficiaries, Mr. Ekene Odogwu and Lady Chinyere Anagor whose children's school fees were fully paid by the lawmaker described the legislator as a blessing to their lives and promised to put the fund into good use as his quality leadership has brought quality and accessible health care to his people.

They revealed that the unarguable truth is that Hon Okoye, has shown constant capacity and forthrightness in accounting for the mandate given to him and will perform even better in the federal house of representatives, listing some other empowerment programme of the legislation to include the presentation of over 15 tricycles, 25 hair dryers, 50 sewing machines, 15 chest freezers, 12 grinding machines, sienna vehicles, cars and motorcycles to help his constituents become self reliant and employers of labour.

In the modern-day constitutional democracy, effective and efficient legislation aside from making laws, ensures executive compliance with legislative intent, ensures efficiency and effectiveness in conduct of public enterprises and economy of government operations, ensures the evaluation of governmental programme performances and creates value for government resources.

However, for legislators to appease the aforementioned constitutional responsibilities in our ever evolving reality, they must routinely submit themselves to the fundamental rigours of legislative seminars and studies.

In fulfilment of the foregoing, the Deputy Speaker of Anambra state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye, amongst other principal officers of National and State Assemblies in Nigeria, including the Speaker Oyo state House of Assembly, who is also the youngest Speaker in Nigeria, converged in Abuja in 2022 for the convergence 5.0 for young elected legislators in Nigeria, which was organized by Yiaga Africa and young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF), to engage and support young legislators with relevant fundamentals of legislation.

The Deputy speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye has expressed grief over the passing of Rt. Hon. Anayo Nnebe, Former Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly and one-time House of Representative member, who died on Wednesday after a brief illness.

Hon. Okoye in his tribute, recalled late Nnebe's determined struggle to defend the functionality and role of the legislature in governance, describing him as "a disciplined and resolute politician who was a friend, brother, mentor and associate." He described his death as a huge blow to APGA family and the entire people of Anambra State.

He said that late Nnebe's contributions to nation-building through legislation, advocacy, and policy will forever be remembered.

Condoling with his family, Hon.Okoye asked them to take solace in the worthy legacy of accomplishments and integrity that their father left behind.

He prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed and comfort for those who mourn this painful lost.

SOLUDO PRESENTS N410BN 2024 BUDGET TO ANAMBRA ASSEMBLY

The Governor of Anambra State, Charles Chukwuma Soludo on Tuesday presented the sum of N410 billion 2024 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly for approval.

The 2024 budget of N410,132,225,272 amounts to about a 57.8 per cent increase on the current 2023 state’s budget of N258.9 billion.

Speaking at the House, Soludo said the budget tagged ‘Changing Gears: The transformation agenda begins’, was aimed at beginning the transformation agenda and implementing a new master plan to build a liveable and prosperous homeland.

According to him, the budget was made up of N313.9 billion in capital expenditure, representing 77 per cent and N96.2 billion in recurrent expenditure, representing 23.46 per cent.

Governor Soludo said that the budget has a deficit of N120 billion expected to be funded through a facility from financial institutions.

“We recorded an estimated 66 per cent budget performance in 2023 and today Anambra is ranked number one among the 17 southern states on ease of doing business and number two with the lowest impact mortality rate.

“Internally Generated Revenue remains a fundamental challenge. In the 2023 budget, we expected a monthly revenue of about N4 billion, so far, we are averaging N2 billion.

“We are projecting N4.2 billion as monthly IGR in the 2024 budget and this is a wake-up call to all residents that we cannot build a liveable and prosperous homeland if we do not pay tax.
“With the 2024 proposed budget, we hope to consolidate ongoing projects. Our teachers, students, poor and vulnerable will smile because we are determined to maximise value for the people of Anambra,” he said.

Receiving the budget, the Speaker of the House, Mr Somtochukwu Udeze, appreciated the governor for the massive transformation projects in the state.

Udeze assured that the budget would receive expeditious consideration.

In Igbo land, Iwa-ji (New Yam festival) can rightly be said to be the most prominent traditional festival which is an age long culture of our people. It is a heartfelt celebration that highlightsthe strength of ndi igbo and appreciation to God Almighty for his bountiful harvest.

Yesterday, November 5, 2022, family, friends and political associates joined me at my country home in Amawbia to celebrate the Iwa ji festival. I thanked God for his blessings and guidance in our life.

I express my profound appreciation to everyone who joined me in this celebration, it is a celebration of a bountiful harvest in our life. As one of the prestigious Ozo title holder in my community, it is our duty to promote and preserve the culture and values of our people.

It is my earnest prayer that this celebration shall birth success in our various endeavours of life.

ANAMBRA DEPUTY SPEAKER TASKS ACTDA, PHYSICAL PLANNING BOARD, MATERIAL TESTING BOARD ON CONTINUOUS STRUCTURAL MONITORING AND REGULATORY COMPLIANCE.

Anambra Assembly Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye, has asked the State House of Assembly to call on Governor Chukwuma Soludo, to direct the heads of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Anambra state Physical Planning Board, and Anambra state Material Testing Board on continuous monitoring of all construction projects in Anambra state.

The Deputy Speaker made the call while supporting a motion on enhanced monitoring of construction, presented by Hon. Jude Akpua ( representing Njikoka 2), during Thursday's plenary session at the House of Assembly complex, Awka.

Rt. Hon. Okoye further explained that the continued rigorous monitoring, after the initial approval is necessary to ensure strict and continued adherence to structural regulations, describing it as a proactive measure to ensure safety of citizens and forestalment of structural collapses.
