In commemoration of Christmas and in the spirit of love, the Isor of Umunede and wife of HRM Dr. Ezeagwu Ezenwali 1 JP, Queen Tonia Ezeagwu, on Sunday, December 22, 2024, distributed bags of rice, groundnut oil, tomatoes and other food items to widows and the physically challenged persons in Umunede Kingdom.
The gesture which has been an annual event over the years by the Royal family, was held at the palace and was graced by some members of council of chiefs, men, women, and youths from the Quarters that made up the town.
In his opening remark, the Chairman of the People's Democratic Party, PDP in ward II, Chief Chuks Eluehike showered encomium on Queen Ezeagwu for her show of love to the widows and disabled persons in the town, saying that the act of generosity by the Queen mother and her entire household has become a yearly activity.
He opined that even in the current economic situation of the country, Queen Anthonia Ezeagwu still deemed it necessary to put smiles on the faces of the people, saying that she has made the people happy and demonstrated the reason for the season, love.
Chief Eluehike enjoined the beneficiaries and all present to always pray for her and the entire family of Umunede Royal family, praying God to bless and reward them handsomely.
Addressing all present, Queen Anthonia Ezeagwu appreciated them for honouring her invitation, saying that she is indeed overwhelmed with joy.
Queen Ezeagwu disclosed that she is truly thankful to God for all His good works He has done in her family, saying that He has been so marvelous to her and the entire Royal family.
She stated that as God continues to bless the Royal family, they too will continue to extend their hands of blessing to others, saying that as God’s children, it is the right thing to do to put smiles on the faces of others.
Isor explained that the gesture stemmed from her unwavering desire to bring relief and happiness to widows and disabled individuals grappling with the effects of the country’s harsh economic realities, saying that gesture is aimed at ensuring families could partake in the joy of the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The Queen mother reiterated that due to the current economic hardship in the country, the gesture is aimed at ensuring that the above mentioned individuals celebrated Christmas and New Year with ease, maintaining that the distribution of the food items does not have anything to do with political parties or tribal inclination.
