On the December 12, 2018, Aare Afe Babalola,SAN, was decorated as Peace Time Hero by Afe Babalola Beneficiaries Worldwide (ABBW) on the remembrance day of Ekiti war heroes. The ceremony took place at the Aare Afe Babalola’s Gardens and Hall of Fame in Okemesi-Ekiti, the home of the Legendary Fabunmi Isola Adesoye, the Generalissimo of the Ekiti Parapo War of Liberation in the 19th Century through the initiative of Chief Solomon Morakinyo Ogunniyi,the Amuludun of Okemesi-Ekiti and Publisher of Kayegbo Magazine .

December 12 annually has been named Afe Babalola Day by the beneficiaries of Aare Emmanuel Afe Babalola since 2018.

As the renowned media entrepreneur Kayegbo turns 64, Aare Afe Babalola prays that the Almighty God will continue to bless him and his family, and grant him longer life to keep serving the Ekiti State, Okemesi-Ekiti community and humanity at large.

Senate Announces 45-Member Committee For Constitution Amendment

February 15, 2024

The senate has set up a 45-member committee to review and amend the country’s constitution.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the composition of the committee led by Barau Jibrin, deputy senate president, on the floor of the red chamber last Wednesday, February 14.
Akpabio said there is a need to amend the country’s constitution in the face of emerging trends in the world.

“There is a need for us to touch some aspects of the constitution to bring them in line with current relatives, particularly with the era of artificial intelligence and some of the things we have observed that need to be put right,” he said.

“The deputy senate president, you also invite speakers of all state houses of assemblies for interaction with the senate president before we go into the major issues of presenting the different memos.”

The senate president said the constitution committee comprises members drawn from all the 36 states of the federation and the federal capital territory (FCT).

“It is all political parties and all senatorial districts, all zones are taken care of,” Akpabio said.
“We are taking one senator per state because we are talking about the constitution amendment. One senator per state and then we are also taking one senator representing each geo-political zone .

“So, in case you noticed two senators from one state, that would mean that one of them represents the zone, while there’s one senator from that zone representing that state.”

Femi Alufa himself is a paternal great -great grandson of Chief Osho Adekuujale,the Olomese of Ijero -Ekiti who was one of the war lieutenants turned peacemakers along with Oba Olamiloye Oyiyosoye,The Ajero of Ijero -Ekiti (reigned 1866-1901) who played a pivotal role in the Kiriji war and the signage of the peace Treaty that put an end to the Yoruba internecine wars on Thursday, September 23,1886.

According to the Ekiti Future Agenda Awards organisers,"Femi Alufa is honoured for his works through (Kiriji Memorial Festival) over the years in honouring Ekiti Peace Heroes and envisioning a more peaceful world".

Femi Alufa will accept the EFA Peace award and dedicate it to the Ekitiparapo peace heroes of the late 19th century and Ekiti modern Peace Heroes that are contributing to make Ekiti State an oasis of peace and sustainable development for us all ".

The defunct Ekiti confederacy of old in the Northeastern part of Yoruba land suffered from the turmoil of war, terrorism, and hegemonic powers that subjugated us in the late 19th century but thanks to our forebears who fought the EkitiParapo(Kiriji ) war of liberation before peace was ensued by the British colonialists led by *Sir Alfred Cornelius Moloney* in Lagos and *Captain Robert Lister Bower* of Ibadan fame .

He also acknowledged the founding fathers and makers of Ekiti State in October 1996 and other people of goodwill who have been working relentlessly for democracy and development, peace and prosperity of our beautiful State on the hills.

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated popular Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, on the success of her latest movie, ‘A Tribe called Judah’.

PUNCH METRO reported that the movie broke a box office record within 21 days of its release in cinemas to become the first Nollywood film to gross N1bn (One Billion Naira).
