THE MISCONDUCT AND INSUBORDINATION OF THE CIVIL SERVANTS IN THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF WORKS, FMW, ABUJA.

By Alfa Mohammed, Esq.

National Publicity Secretary, SDP. [email protected]

I was very shocked today after watching a trending video in the social media, in which the representative of the staff of the Federal Ministry of Works' headquarter, Abuja was recorded combatively and insolently berating, threatening and challenging the Honorable Minister of Works for ordering the closure of the office gate against late comers. The minister was accused of directing that the office gate be locked against some of the staff who were arriving office very late without apologies. Watching what transpired between the Honourable Minister and the ministry's staff led by their representative made me wondered whether discipline had evaporated completely from the Nigerian civil service. According to the minister while addressing the staff, he had observed that tardiness had become habitual amongst the ministry workers, and that the indiscipline had been hindering his ability to perform his job effectively. He further to discribe how at times, he had to keep his works on hold endlessly due to the unavailability of some staff to provide certain critical files or information on ministry matters when ever he called for them.

Watching the video clip for the second time and listening carefully to the local labour leader sounding words of warning to the Hon. Minister and reminding him that the Federal ministry of works was not Eboyi state where the governor had ruled for 8 years made me to exclaim to no one in particular as I was alone in my room,"who mentored these crops of civil servants? How can a junior staff be addressing his superior, especially the Minister, in such a very rude manner?"

The labor leader in question displayed an extreme level of arrogance and insubordination. He seemingly was oblivious to the fact that the Minister, who could be old enough to be his father, was the overall head of the Ministry, recognized by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to act on behalf of Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. And that all the insult against the Minister was an insult against Mr President.

Does holding a labour union leadership position grant one immunity from consequences? My generation was not raised to behave this way, and I dread to think about the kind of individuals who will lead our civil service in the next two decades.

Would the union leader have addressed a Military Minister in the same manner and gotten away with it? Under a military regime, the Minister would likely have signaled one of his aides, resulting in the union leader receiving a termination letter on his return to his office from the meeting. He would have been very fortunate to spend the night at home rather than in a detention facility after confronting a constitutionally recognized Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Was it the first instance of the office gate being locked against latecomers?

Although there are still some dedicated and honourable civil servants, the poor performance of successive governments in Nigeria in the recent time stems from the gross indiscipline and unpatriotic conducts of some civil servants who are found of frustrating any leadership that attempts to introduce reforms that promise to change the rotten status quo or liberate the government administrative system from the notorious bureaucratic bottle necks. Flowing from the open display of insubordination against the Honorable Minister of Works, and by the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the staff under Minister's supervision, I call on Mr President to cause an immediate investigation in to the matter and ensure that appropriate disciplinary measures are visited on those found to have breached the civil service rule, in order to deter others in other government establishments from emulating such acts of insubordination.

PETER OBI, A SECESSIONIST LEADER, HIDING UNDER THE OBIDIENT MOVEMENT TO TERMINATE DEMOCRACY IN NIGERIA & CAUSE CIVIL WAR - SDP Spokes person, Alfa Mohammed.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Barr. Alfa Mohammed has accused Mr Peter Obi, the 3rd runner up in the just concluded presidential election in Nigeria, of hiding under the Obidient Movement, a grouping of Nigerian youths yearning for a youthful President of the country to pursue the secessionist agenda of the South East Ethnic Militia, Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB.

According to the SDP spokes person, Obi's strategy after failing in his use of ethnic and religious division to win the presidential election is to continue to instigate and sponsor his now ethnised Obidient Movement to unleash chaos and anarchy on major cities of Nigeria in order to provide excuse for the unconstitutional annulment of the election won by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, hence the recent call made by the Obidient Movement on the military to cease power.

In a statement made available to the media, Alfa referred to Peter Obi as a bad looser who is bent on bringing the country down because he lost election just once, when the sitting president, Muhammadu Buhari who lost election thrice before winning the forth attempt did not threaten the country's democracy and unity as Obi is doing now.

"Obi knows full well that should the annulment being promoted by him and his mentors becomes realistic, it will instantly set the Yoruba ethnic group of the President Elect against his own Igbo ethnic group in a protest which may set the country on fire and possibly lead to a civil war that may end Nigeria as a Federation, which is desire of Mr Peter Obi and his soul mates.

"The entire country, especially the Yorubas have not recovered from the wounds caused by the. annulment of the June 12 1993 President Election won by one of them, Chief MKO Abiola, but which annulment was championed by another Igbo man, late Chief Arthur Nzeribe who started his devilish plot using an organization known as the Association for a Better Nigeria, exactly like Peter Obi is doing now".

Alfa stated further that Chief Abiola later lost life in the struggle to reclaim his mandate, and that it is dangerous to visit the Yorubas with such a tragic experience again.

The SDP NPS therefore called on all lovers of Democracy and Peace within the authentic Obidient Movement, as well as the Labour Party candidates elected in the same election which Peter Obi is asking to be annulled to condemned and dissociate themselves from the now "Ipobised" Peter Obi led Obidient Movement's call for election annulment and military intervention.

Alfa emphasized that "should Obi's campaign for the annulment of the March 25th presidential mandate freely given by majority of the Nigerian voters to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu materialize, the growing ethnic hostility between Peter Obi's ethnic Igbos and the president elect, Tinubu's Yoruba ethnic group may explode and lead to a civil war which Nigeria may not survive.

"The probability of a serious conflict between the two ethnic groups can be appreciated when one is reminded that it was an Igbo man, late Chief Arthur Nzeribe who led the campaign for the annulment of the June 12 1993 Presidential Election won by a Yoruba man, late Chief MKO Abiola who later died in the course of his struggle to reclaim his annulled mandate.

"The Igbo leaders should stop Peter Obi from projecting the Igbos as enemies in the clogs of Yoruba people's political progress by coming out to strongly condemn and dissociate themselves from Obi's call for the annulment of the March 25th Presidential Election".

The SDP megaphone further advised the true Obidient Movement to suspend Peter Obi from the Movement for turning the movement in to a militant and anti - Democracy movement.

He admonished the youths to pray against experiencing a military administration in their life time, because it does not give room for freedom of expression amongst other human rights abuses it is usually known for.

SDP enjoined peace loving Nigerians to come out en mass in solidarity with President Muhammadu Buhari, the President Elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian Democracy.

Similarly, Alfa called on the Military and all Arms of the Nation's security architecture to remain patriotic and loyal to the Constitution of their Father land by resisting any pressure to commit r**e on the Constitution which they swore to protect with their blood.

According to the NPS, "election has been contested, won and lost, any aggrieved candidate should resort to the judiciary without disrespecting the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or seeking to pull down the country' structures".
