A 55-year-old Russian woman, Angelina Gold, experienced a terrifying ordeal on Friday, June 14, when she was robbed of $3,500 shortly after withdrawing the money from a Zenith Bank branch in Lagos

Gold suspected someone might have seen her receive the money in the bank or that employees at the Isaac John Street branch in GRA Ikeja were leaking information to robbers.

She was shot in the foot by a lone robber in her compound at Oba Akinjobi GRA Ikeja when she hesitated to hand over the money. The robbery occurred less than three hours after her bank transaction.

The Story of the U.S. Commando Who Killed Osama bin Laden and Why He Was Dismissed.

After years of dangerous missions — from midnight raids on al-Qaeda safe houses in Iraq to battling Somali pirates on the high seas — none was as foreboding as the operation to capture or kill Osama bin Laden. Robert James O’Neill, a U.S. Navy SEAL, was certain this mission would be his last as he prepared to jump from a helicopter into bin Laden’s private garden.

O’Neill, part of the team that stormed bin Laden’s hideout on May 2, 2011, braced himself for possible death from heavily armed gunmen or b***y traps protecting the al-Qaeda leader. What he didn’t anticipate was securing a place in history by firing the bullet that killed bin Laden.

O’Neill later confirmed he was the first SEAL to enter bin Laden’s bedroom, where he shot the terrorist leader, who was standing in the dark behind his youngest wife. Two other SEALs corroborated his account of the fatal shot.

However, O’Neill’s repeated public interviews did not sit well with military leadership. The commander and master chief of the Navy Special Warfare Command emphasized that a fundamental principle of their profession is to “not advertise the nature of my work nor seek recognition for my action.”

“We do not abide willful or selfish disregard for our core values in return for public notoriety or financial gain,” a letter from the command stated.

Ultimately, O’Neill was dismissed from the service for breaking the code of conduct.

Gas Supply Disruption in Nigeria Causes Blackouts in Ghana, Benin, and Togo

Several regions in Ghana, Benin, and Togo are currently facing power outages due to a prolonged disruption in gas supply from Nigeria.

Major cities in these countries have been plunged into darkness following an announcement by the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCO) in Accra, Ghana, regarding a drop in gas volumes available for transportation.

Last Wednesday, WAPCO stated that one of its gas producers in Nigeria was conducting maintenance work, necessitating a three-week shutdown of its facility.

As a result, there is a reduction in the gas available for WAPCO to transport to customers in Togo, Benin, and Ghana.

“The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited regrets to announce that it is experiencing a drop in gas volumes available for transportation due to ongoing maintenance works by one of its gas producers in Nigeria,” WAPCO said.

Democracy Day: Protest Rock Lagos As Nigerians Demand Living Wage, Better Economy (Pictures).

As Nigeria marks the 2024 Democracy Day, a large group of protesters gathered at the Ikeja Underbridge in Lagos, calling for a living wage and improved economic conditions. My fellow Nigerians, let me begin by congratulating all of us for witnessing the celebration of another Democracy Day today, the 12th day of June 2024. This year also marks our nation’s 25 years of uninterrupted democratic governance.

On this day, 31 years ago, we entered our rites of passage to becoming a true and enduring democratic society.

Going through this passage was hard and dangerous. During the fateful six years that followed, we fought and struggled for our natural rights as human beings put on this earth by the divine hand of our Creator.

We lost great heroes and heroines along the way. In this struggle, the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola, the most significant symbol of our democratic struggle, his wife, Kudirat, General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua and Pa Alfred Rewane, among others sacrificed their very lives.

They bravely surrendered their futures, so that our nation might have a better one.

Let us honour the memories of Chief Anthony Enahoro, Chief Abraham Adesanya, Commodore Dan Suleiman, Chief Arthur Nwankwo, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu, Chief Frank Kokori, Chief Bola Ige, Chief Adekunle Ajasin, Chief Ganiyu Dawodu, Chief Ayo Fasanmi, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Chief Olabiyi Durojaiye, Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti, Chima Ubani, and others who have transited to the higher realm.

The sacrifices of General Alani Akinrinade, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, Professor Wole Soyinka, Chief Ralph Obioha, Chief Cornelius Adebayo, among many others, should never be forgotten. For at least six years, they bore the pains and difficulties of life in exile.

While the exiled pro-democracy activists kept the fire burning, their comrades at home sustained the pressure on the military brass hats. Among the latter are Olisa Agbakoba, Femi Falana, Abdul Oroh, Senator Shehu Sani, Governor Uba Sani, Chief Olu Falae, and other National Democratic Coalition leaders such as Chief Ayo

Africa’s largest oil refinery, Dangote Refinery, has postponed the production of premium motor spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from June to mid-July.

Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of the refinery, confirmed the revised production date to journalists at the $20 billion facility in Lagos on Monday.

Dangote attributed the shift to a minor delay, moving the initial June schedule to mid-July. He stated that petrol production would begin between July 10 and 15, with local supply starting from the third week of July.
