Thugs invade Ogun monarch's palace, allegedly burn him and four of his aides to death

The traditional ruler of Agodo village in Ewekoro local council of Ogun State, Oba Ayinde Odetola, and four of his aides have been reportedly killed by unknown gunmen who invaded his palace and set them ablaze on Monday, January 24.

According to reports, the monarch and his aides were assassinated and burnt as soon as they entered the town around 11:00 a.m. It is believed that the attack is as a result of the crisis surrounding the choice of a ruler in the community. Crisis began in the community after the late monarch, who was from the Ake dynasty, was chosen as the traditional ruler of the community, but the Owu people allegedly insisted that anybody from Ake would not be their king.

Confirming the incident, one of the late monarch’s sisters, Chief (Mrs) Adenike Akintade, lamented the heartless killing of the traditional ruler and his aides, adding that the same people recently killed a younger brother of the late monarch.

“I had just been discharged from hospital early this morning, only to start mourning the brutal assassination of my brother. Kabiesi called me on Saturday, urging me to reduce my activities, saying stress could contribute to my illness.

Oba Odetola lost his younger brother to this imbroglio some months ago; the young man was butchered by the so-called hoodlums. Today, Kabiyesi is no more, what a world,” she lamented

Confirming the incident, the police spokesperson in Ogun State, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, denied that four of the monarch’s aides were killed. He said after killing the traditional ruler, the perpetrators burnt the monarch with his car. He said the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has visited the scene of the incident for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.

He added that though no arrest has been made, the Commissioner of Police has directed that the matter be transferred to the homicide section of the State Investigation Department for a thorough investigation.

Oyeyemi added that police operatives are on the trail of those who killed the monarch.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has arrested a private school teacher, Chioma Johnson, who has been allegedly maltreating a 10-year-old boy under her care in Makurdi, Benue State.

The Benue NAPTIP Commandant, Gloria Bai, who confirmed the incident said that the suspect had been granted administrative bail.

"The command received a complaint from a reliable informant about a case of child abuse at Wadata behind Family Health Care, Makurdi. Officers of the command immediately swung into action and a 10-year-old boy was rescued and the suspect arrested," she stated.

“The suspect, Mrs Chioma Johnson, is a nursing mother who hails from Abia State. The suspect’s husband is an uncle to the victim. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim has undergone physical abuse; there are lots of scars on the victim’s body and also, a medical evaluation showed that in addition to the physical abuse, the victim was malnourished. The case is still under investigation.” she added.

It was gathered that the victim was brought from Johnson’s husband’s village to live with the couple at their residence on Zakibiam Street in the Wadata area of Makurdi.

Read his post below...

"Mrs Chioma who is a private school teacher has maltreated and abused this little child for about 3 years now. The boy is a son of a relative from her husband village, and he has no one to take care of him in the village. That is why the woman is maltreating him," he said.

"She denied the boy of an education. While her four biological children attended school, this child is locked up inside the house.

"If one takes a casual glance on this child, one can easily see the gravity of the body injuries she has inflicted on him. And how malnourished he looks, as a result of not been fed most time.

You can see the scars on his buttocks and on his head as a result of the hot leather she poured on him. She used razor to scrape the boys head before pouring the hot leather on him, so that he will get to feel the pain more. She will heat her kitchen knife and use it to burn the skin of this child

"When we try to intervene, she refused to stop unleashing mayhem on the child. She claims the boy stole soup from the pot, and she will punish him as much as she wants, and nobody can stop her

"The child never leaves the house, when ever she and her children go out, they lock up the boy in the house; he will stay at the window and beg passerbys for water and food

Her husband, is fully aware of the situation, and does nothing to stop it. Although he wasn't at home when we arrived to make an arrest, but a call was put across to him to come to the Makurdi NAPTIP Office. The woman and the child is now in the custody of NAPTIP, for the law to take its due course.

Wife sues husband in Gombe for biting her during a quarrel

A Nigerian woman, Lawiza Muazu, has dragged her husband, Alhaji Muazu, before the Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Unguwar Idi, Gombe State, over claims of domestic violence.

Lawiza in the court documents accused her husband of biting her while they were quarreling. She also alleged that her husband beats her regularly when they have misunderstandings.

“The latest quarrel we had was when I refused to cook food for the house. My action was a result of the non-provision of firewood or charcoal by him.

When he beat me for the first time, I went home, but my father asked me to go back. My husband later resorted to biting me after the beating. He would bite my fingers for refusing to cook food.''

She, therefore, asked the court to dissolve her marriage with Muazu saying she could no longer tolerate him.''

The husband denied biting and beating Lawiza.

“She refused to cook for one week which contravened the gentleman agreement that my two wives will serve food to the house on their cooking days.”he said

Muazu explained that as a result of that the co-wife Jummai refused to give Lawiza the food she prepared.

“In protest of not being served by her co-wife, Lawiza got hold of me demanding for her right. She put her hands in my pocket trying to remove money by force. It was as a result of it that quarrel ensued between us but I never bit her,” Muazu added

Nigerian lady files lawsuit against her father's friend who allegedly molested her 15 years ago

A Nigerian lady, Hirhyel Hassan, has filed a lawsuit against one of her father's friends who she accused of defiling her while she was a child.

SaharaReporters reports that Ms. Hassan who is currently a serving corps member alleged that she was molested within the period of 2007 and 2008 when she was nine years old.

In the court papers, Hassan alleged that her father's friend, David Bwala of the Faculty of Education, University of Maiduguri, paid frequent visits to her home and sexually exploited, molested and assaulted her after enticing her with gifts.

In the notice of application, Hassan sought the following reliefs

“A declaration that the sexual exploitation, molestation and assault of the applicant by the respondent towards the applicant, is a violation of the applicant's constitutionally guaranteed right as enshrined under section 34(1) 1999 CFRN (amended), Article 5 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights (Cap 49) Laws of the Federation, 2004 and sections 11, 32 & 277 of the Child Rights Act, 2003.

A declaration that the applicant is entitled to a public apology and adequate compensation from the respondent for the blatant violation of the applicant's fundamental rights.”

She also sought an order directing the respondent to tender a public apology and pay adequate compensation for the blatant violation of her fundamental rights.

Other reliefs sought are;

“An order of perpetual injection restraining the respondent from further exploiting, molesting and assaulting the applicant sexually.

“An order of this honourable court directing the respondent to pay to the applicant the sum of N50,000,000.00 as exemplary damages for the grave violation of the applicant's fundamental rights, which has caused the applicant to suffer emotional and psychological trauma.”

In another court document, the victim said she had kept this to herself for so long and had suffered self-loathing, frequent panic attacks, sleepless nights, and anxiety as a result of being molested by the respondent. She claimed the development had also affected her socially and academically.

Hassan, who was finally able to open up to her family in 2021, said her father organized a meeting with the respondent at the house of one Dr. Mrs. K.S Ndahi where the alleged abuser was confronted with the allegation. According to her, Prof Bwala admitted to have sexually molested her.

She said the minutes of the meeting were recorded on her cell phone after which she approached the translation section of the High Court of Justice registry on September 2021 where she engaged the services of Yakubu Saleh, a principal registrar at the court, which was translated from Bura, Hausa to English Language. The translation was thereafter made available in printed copy.

However, in a counter-affidavit by Prof Bwala, he said none of the accusations levelled against him were true. According to him, the applicant's father was his friend and a firm relationship had been established with the family.

He said anytime he paid a visit to the family at the time of the alleged occurrence, he was usually in company with his wife, who hands over gifts to the children.

Bwala also said he at no time admitted to having assaulted the young woman, stating that though there was a meeting at the residence of Dr Mrs Ndahi, he was shocked at the allegations levelled against him as none of such incidents happened.

Hacker allegedly break into NIMC server, steal over three million national identity numbers of Nigerians

Suspected hackers have allegedly hacked into the server of the National Identity Management Commission NIMC and stolen three million National Identity Numbers of Nigerians.

SaharaReporters reports that the hacker disclosed how easy it was for him to breach the NIMC server and access personal information of millions of Nigerians in an article he shared on a website. The report says the hacker boasted that he got access to “juice” on the Nigerian Government agency’s server and that he could go-ahead to do whatever he desired with other sensitive data at his disposal.

Displaying a defaced National Identity card of a Nigerian alongside the article, the hacker was said to have writtern

“I've got one more output for s3 bucket, I casually tried to access it without any hope, and damn! The s3 bucket is full of juice. I just simply got access to their (Nigeria) data of internal files, users and everything they have. I can download everything, even the whole bucket. I am sure that the bucket is full of juice.

I wanted to look at more files but as we have to follow bug bounty rules I stopped doing more. I've got one more s3 bucket with nuclei and it also contained about 4–5 gigs of data.

I’ve rewarded 5250$ for only one report and 0$ for the second one even it contained so much sensitive data''

The latest cyber attack comes less than two months after the Nigerian Communications Commission in November 2021 issued a warning that an Iranian hacking group was planning to carry out cyber espionage across Africa.

A statement from the agency had further disclosed that the hackers were targeting telecoms, Internet Service Providers, and Ministries of Foreign Affairs in Nigeria and other African countries.

Over 60 million Nigerians have so far been captured on the national identity database.

NIMC is yet to react to this development.
