My Distinguished Party Leaders and Men
It gives me the greatest pleasure to be part of this process involved in nominating the leadership of the Premier Local Government, Abeokuta South for the next four (4) years and beyond as we all join hands to make sure the best and only the very best from the All Progressive Congress steer the reins of our home to greater heights, to a golden level befitting our city as one of the leading motherlands for the Yoruba people in Ogun, Nigeria and all over the world.
I remember vividly that the beginning of this dream was one single moment, last year when I was privileged to move through the city when I attended a meeting of our people and leaders as we, the youth wing of the party in Abeokuta were preparing for the presidential elections. As I always did and still do, I was discussing and listening, taking notes and sharing ideas with everyone then - making sure that after the elections were over, our people knew they had a sure voice with his ears to their heart. I spoke with students, with old women, with party leaders, with new members, with professionals, with security people, with pensioners, with religious leaders and with those who usually would not have bothered with the electoral process. And in all of these talking, I kept on hammering on a single point to anyone and everyone.
Itโs simple, I said. Our party will deliver on the dividends of democracy to all - everywhere, starting with here, even if it seems that the process might be initially painful. Why? Because no other party is made up more of people who know the price for democracy and paid for it for this and future generations to come. From our national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), our state leader High Chief Olusegun Osoba and our able Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR. It's a message we donโt need to plaster on billboards - we just need our people to see it in action. They donโt have to judge us by what we say. They can judge us by what we do.
And that is what I believe weโre already doing in asking for only the best to run for every single tier of government today.
And this is the entire reason why Iโm so pleased to be here, today, to ask that in nominating executives who will drive Abeokuta South forward, that we consciously place competence, integrity, technological awareness, connection with people and a proven track record for those who will fill these highly sensitive positions.
And my message to us, party members and leaders today is simple.
Let us put our best foot forward for all the roles that are needed.
Let us look out for and reward those, whose approach are time-tested, trusted and found to be always working approach - working with local people, listening, building partnerships, having a direct line for elders, women and leaders to contribute, creating avenues for younger people to find a place and voice in the issues that affect them.
Let us allow young, vibrant persons with experience in growing and managing enterprises, bring their vision, hunger, resourcefulness to the public sector and multiply the opportunities we have among our people.
Let us allow the BETA people, with it's accompanying seven point agenda in office to help us fulfill these promises.
1. Active, Listening Democracy - Welcome everyone's voices and contributions with townhall meetings.
2. Improve Health & Public Services - increased funding for the health sector to reduce infant/maternal mortality and increase life expectancy. Renovating, increasing and opening up access to infrastructure.
3. Transparency & Accountability - local government funds must work and be seen to work for every naira spent.
4. Civic Service - reward participation in community development activities.
5. Next Generation Focus - improve academic performance for our pupils & students in all education rankings.
6. No Woman Left Behind - women leadership through education, vocational skills & access to funding.
7. Office of the Senior Citizen - respect and value for elderly care
As our able governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has shown in the latest initiative aimed at alleviating economic pressures, whilst building for a better future, with the introdcution of 100 CNG buses for mass transit as well as the provision of 500 conversion kits for existing vehicles, our message again should be simple. Filling the roles at local government level can show our people, little by little, through smart and judicious use of resources that we are the party that always has their best interests at heart.
By so doing, we fulfill our electoral promise of what we say we will do. By allowing young, talented, entrepreneurs a chance to contribute, using, for instance, what I and the OMOBETA team have done in the private sector as an education entrepreneur that creates platforms for Abeokuta's talented prospects to study at the world's best institutions abroad - and a statement of what we want to continue doing.
Let us open up and allow for evidence-based leadership.
Let us nomintate executives who will make the difference from Day 1.
And with your support, we can go on making the difference.
Signed: Comr. Abiodun Oluwasanjo Sijuade (OMOBETA)
