Gas explosion wipes family of 11 in Ebonyi

Gas explosion that occured at the Ugwu Onyeama has claimed lives of family of eleven who are natives of Abofia Agbaja in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi state.

The bereaved brother of the victims, Mr Ikechukwu Nwaji who spoke with our Correspondent amidst tear said that the gas explosion that occured on weekend at Ugwu Onyeama in Enugu state claimed the entire family of Mr Nwaji Jeremiah on their private Sienna while they were on the way to Ebonyi for their late father's burial.

According to the family source, Ikechukwu Nwaji narrated that the victims were on their way from Onitsha Anambra state with his six children, wife, brother and his servants to the village where their sienna vehicle ignited fire from the explosion that burnt them to ashes.

He lamented that the victim who was the bread winner of the family conveyed the entire family with his friend's sienna who gave him the vehicle to enable them carry all their belongings as the deceased father was slated to be buried on Friday of the week before he met his dead.

He called on president Bola Tinubu led federal government to revisit the policy that banned the movement of tanker carrying premium motor spirit otherwise known as fuel and gas to stop carrying the goods during the day adding that many families have lost their love ones in similar controllable situation.

Speaking with the bereaved sister and a widow, Mrs Chiamaka Onyibe and cousin, Mrs Ifeoma Oroke narrated that the victim was the one paying her children school fees since she lost her husband adding that the family has lost their divine helper coupled with the fact that they were relocated to the family house by late brother since she lost her husband.

Ebonyi: Man sets self ablaze, wife, 3 others escape by chance

A man in his early thirty, late Onyiuke Nwedeogu has set himself ablaze in the early hour of Sunday after little altercation with the wife.

The late Onyiuke equally sets the wife, Mrs Felicia Nwedeogu and three daughters into fire at the early morning of Sunday at Ndiechi Igbeagu in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi state.

According to a close source, the rift started after late Onyiuke had little altercation with the wife and later in the night, late Onyiuke bought a motor spirit after the family had gone to bed and set the house on fire.

The source revealed that after the altercation, the man carried his luggage from their apartment to their provisions store, left their shop only to return in the night with a gallon of motor spirit and set the house on fire.

An eye witness account added that the wife, Mrs Nwedeogu was rescued through widow with the three children.

It added that the man after setting the building on fire drove away with his bus to a friend who rushed him to Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, AE-FETHA where he died on Wednesday.

Gas Explosion: Nwifuru's wife donates 2million naira to victims in Ebonyi

Civil Society Organization,Better Health for Rural Women, Children And Internally Displaced Persons Foundation,(BERWO)has donated the sum of two Million Naira to support the treatment of the ten victims of gas explosion at Good Shepherd Catering School, Oruokeonuoha in Ebonyi state.

The founder of the foundation who's the wife of Ebonyi state governor, Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru made the donation when she paid a sympathy visit to the girls at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki AE-FUTHA.

Speaking during the visit, Mrs Nwifuru said that the two million Naira was to support their treatment in the hospital.

Coincidentally, while on the hospital visit, the wife of the governor met a little Miss Anita Ahamefula who is in need of Surgery but couldn’t afford it and promised that BERWO would take care of her surgical expenses.

The wife of the governor, Mrs Nwifuru empathized with the victims and prayed to God for their speedy healing and strength for these young school girls to carry on their activities as the burns are 3rd degree and 4th degree burns and they are in critical conditions.

Mysterious Fire:10 hospitalized in Ebonyi

No fewer than ten school girls sustained various degrees of burns from a gas explosion that occurred in a catering school at Orokeonuoha in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The unfortunate incident occurred inside the Good Shepherd Catering School building, where the girls, aged 12 to 19, were on their catering studies.

It was gathered that the victims are on life support at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, AE-FUTHA.

One of the students was said to have answered a phone call from a cell phone while cooking inside the kitchen before a gas cylinder exploded.

Narrating the incident, a father of one of the victims, Mr Emmanuel Nwizi who is a staff of the Nigeria Television Authority, NTA Abakaliki Network centre narrated that he got a call around 6:30 a.m. that the kitchen section of Good Shepherd Catering School had been engulfed by fire.

He rushed there (the catering school), and saw students discussing in groups with one of them saying that if the students hadn’t entered the kitchen with her phone, the incident wouldn’t have happened.

According to him, when moved into the school proper, was told that the victims had been taken to the police clinic from where they were rushed to the Accident and Emergency Unit of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki where they're currently receiving treatment.

Efforts to reach the school authorities for comment was not successful as the officials were busy with the management of the incident.

Ebonyi Govt distributes medical consumables to 13 General Hospitals

Ebonyi State Government has distributed medical Consumables to General Hospitals across the State with a charge to medical personnel to ensure judicious use of the items.

Governor Nwifuru while handing over the medical consumables to Medical superintendents in charge of the General Hospitals said the procurement of the items was part of his administration' s commitment to improve the health statues of the people.

The Governor who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Prof. Emmanuel Echiegu said Medical equipment was also procured.

He called on Medical personnel and the Community Leaders to monitor the use of the consumables to ensure that the purpose would be achieved.

"I urge community Leaders to ensure proper monitoring of the items to ensure they are not diverted "

"Let me use this opportunity to call on the people to patronize the General Hospitals because they are properly equipped instead of going to Teaching Hospitals when they have minor health challenges. Teaching Hospitals to the best of my knowledge are for referrals "

The State Commissioner for Health Dr. Moses Ekuma described the distribution as another milestone in an effort to meet the health needs of the people.

He said that the health needs of the people were prioritized by the present administration, hence the giant strides so far recorded

" In the Governor's Manifesto , health took a prominent position that is why immediately he came on board the first thing was to address the challenges facing the sector by recruiting medical personnel, and upgrading our Geneal Hospitals among others "

He commended the Governor for the procurement of the medical Consumables and assured that the ministry will monitor the use of the consumables.

It would be recalled that Ebonyi State Government recently procured medical equipment and consumables valued at over One Billion Naira for the General Hospitals
