2024: Ebonyi State Governor Approves 1st International Marathon

In a landmark decision heralding a new era of sports excellence, the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, RT Hon Bldr Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has granted approval for the inaugural Ebonyi International Marathon 2024.

This historic announcement was made today at a world press conference held at the office of the honorable Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, located at the centenary city, Abakaliki.

Speaking to members of the press, the Commissioner, Hon Prince Richard Ugo-Idike, expressed profound gratitude to His Excellency for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the advancement of sports in Ebonyi State. He emphasized the significance of this international marathon event as a platform to showcase the economic potential, hospitality, and developmental strides of Ebonyi State under Governor Nwifuru's administration.

Mr. Jacob Onu, the Executive Director/CEO of Fair Play Sports International Agency, echoed sentiments of honor and privilege in organizing the first-ever recognized international marathon to be held East of the Niger. He emphasized the event's role in spotlighting Ebonyi State on the global stage and attracting potential investors, leveraging the state's reputation as the most peaceful and rapidly growing economy in Nigeria.

Highlighting the details of the event, Mr. Onu announced that the Ebonyi International Marathon 2024 is scheduled to commence on September 14th, 2024, in Abakaliki, following the conclusion of the forthcoming Olympic Games in Paris, France. Anticipated to draw over 20,000 athletes from both local and foreign territories, the marathon promises to be a spectacular showcase of athleticism and sportsmanship.

Defection: Stop verbal attack, cyber-bulling or.... Ebonyi APC threatens

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC Ebonyi Central zone, Hon Nworie Ndubuisi has threatened to sanction its member over incessant verbal attack and social media bullying of stakeholders of the party in the area.

The zonal chairman in a press briefing issued today at Onueke, the Ebonyi Central Zonal headquarters warned members of the zone to desist from the public verbal attack or ready to face sanction.

According to the statement, "Ebonyi Central Senatorial District Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has observed with utter dismay, the verbal attacks and cyber-bullying amongst some members of the party in the district, comprising four council areas; Ezza south, Ezza North, Ikwo and Ishielu respectively.

" It has been gathered that in different occasions, some stakeholders picked up microphone and disparaged or discredited fellow stakeholders of the same APC due to reason(s) best known to them. Some loyalists of same stakeholders of the party in the senatorial zone have also taken to the social media pouring vituperations and attacks on each other and defending their political principals against another. It has been an exchange of cyber-bullying and cyber-stalking among the opposing groups.

"It is logical to state that the verbal attacks and cyber-bullying by those stakeholders and loyalists of our party in Ebonyi Central Zone would culminate in heating up the polity and factionalisation of the party in the zone, if not quenched now.

Nworie, who described the ruling party in the state as formidable in the zone admonished members to prioritize on the general interest of the party in the development of the state.

He equally cautioned some stakeholders to eschew from fanning ember of disunity in the party while assuring new defectors of robust accommodation as they uphold the already existing peace and unity in the zone.

Gov Nwifuru debunks alleged borrowing of over 111b

Ebonyi state Commissioner for Finance, Dr Leonard Uguru has debunked the state involvement in the collective loan borrowing of 111.24 billion naira from domestic and foreign financiers in their first six months of office.

The state Commissioner, Uguru explained that the state governor, Rt Hon Francis Nwifuru has not borrowed from both internal and foreign creditors since assumption of office on May 29, 2023.

Uguru, who was reacting from the publication of Debt Management Office,DMO which reported that Ebonyi government under Francis Nwifuru among other 16 states had between June and December 2023 borrowed $125.1m(111.24bn) where the state according to the report accumulated external debt of $37.54 million.

Speaking, the state Commissioner stated that the state has not borrowed money since assumption of office as the governor has vowed never to borrow to fund his government.

"Since the inception of this administration, Ebonyi state government has not borrowed any money whether foreign or domestic loan. So, any organization that's writing that Ebonyi is among the states that has borrowed money, I don't know where they are getting their data.

"According to His Excellency, the governor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru he is not even ready in the nearest future to borrow because he said that he's not going to leave loan for his successor or unborn generation.

"So, the money we are getting from the federation account and IGR is enough to give Ebonyi citizens what they want from him based on the people's charter of needs as promised by the governor in as far as the government is not corrupt to be diverting what's meant for personal aggrandizement and that's our stand for now.

"The state debt profile is not as high as other states. Debt profile been high is a relative terms, because you can't expect the debt profile of United States of America for instance to be thesame with a country

World TB Day: Go for early diagnosis and cure-Ekuma advises patients

Ebonyi State Government has joined her counterparts across the globe to celebrate World TB Day 2024, which has the theme 'Yes! We can end TB!'

Speaking during press briefing at Ochudo Centenary City Abakaliki, the Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma described tuberculosis as one of the deadliest diseases and charged all stakeholders to show more commitment in the fight against the disease.

He encouraged people to increase investment and uptake of World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations as well as adoption of innovations including involvement of civil society organizations to ensure that tuberculosis is reduced to the barest minimum.

While he said that the celebration was to raise awareness and step up efforts to eliminate the global epidemic, he enumerated the achievements of the State Government such as making every community aware of causes and cure including ensuring that all detected tuberculosis, Buruli Ulcer and leprosy patients were placed on treatment and cured.

Dr. Ekuma therefore advised people to go for early diagnosis and cure adding that, "nine Gene-Xpert machines were installed in the State in addition to the TB Microscopic Centres to enhance High Tech. and rapid diagnosis of all forms of Tuberculosis in the following Hospitals – St. Patrick Hosp., FETHA, Mater, PJH Uburu, Ezzangbo Gen. Hospitals, General Hospital Onueke, Mile Four Treatment Center, Touch Diagnostica Abakaliki.and DUFUTH".

The Commissioner who went down memory lane, mentioned the State Government counterpart contributions since 1996 and said that TB patients rose from 63.4% in 1997 December to 86% in December 2023 with treatment success rate of 90%.

He explained that inadequate funding was one of the challenges facing the programme and lauded the implementing partners like WHO, CARITAS Nigeria, Association for Reproductive and Family Health, Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberclosis & Malaria am

S'Court: Nwifuru's victory, democracy in action ~Izzi Nnodo Youth president

The national president of the apex Izhi youth socio-cultural organization, Izzi Nnodo Youth Forum, INYF,Comrade Ben Nwovu has described the judgement of the supreme court that affirmed governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi state as democracy in action.

Comrade Nwovu made the disclosure while reacting on the supreme court judgement and enjoined aggrieved parties to unite for the development of Ebonyi state.

The national president congratulated the Ebonyi state governor, Nwifuru and called on the detractors to come together and support the people's charter of needs agenda of the governor.

He thanked the judiciary for standing on the path of truth and added that the judgement has further represented the common aphorism that the court remain the hope of a common man.

He described the victory as a round peg on a round hole and called on the opponents to unite and contribute their quotas for the development of the state as every contest will always has a winner and a loser.

He also applauded the youth and supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC and tasked them to continue rallying round the governor as the government has showed interest to make administration favourable to the youths.

Ebonyi former deputy speaker joins APC

A Chieftain of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, and immediate past deputy speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Odefa Obasi Odefa has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Odefa in a statement issued on Wednesday 13th December,2023 by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Dr Monday Uzor defected alongside about 500 of his supporters from the Onicha East Constituency of Ebonyi state.

Speaking,Odefa said his decision to pitch tent with the APC was to rally round the Governor in his concerted efforts to transform the State having studied his good intentions as captured in the People's Charter of Needs manifesto.

Responding, the Governor, Francis Nwifuru said the door of the All Progressives Congress, APC was wide open to accommodate all well-intentioned individuals into the Party.

While assuring the defectors that they would be availed level playing field in the APC, Governor Nwifuru called on them to join hands with him to develop the State.

It would be recalled that Odefa Obasi Odefa represented Onicha East in the State House of Assembly between 2007 to 2023 was the Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly.
