Topic: NEW TESTAMENT WORD/PHRASE STUDY - PURE, PURGE, PURIFY. PART SIXTY-NINE.
Text: "Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself PURGED our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;".
Prophet Malachi prophesied our focus for today in Malachi 3:3 And he shall sit as a refiner and PURIFIER of silver: and he shall PURIFY THE SONS OF Levi, and PURGE them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.
The prophet said it of Jesus to be the one to PURIFY and PURGE the sons of Levi, who were a type of the New Testament saints, who are Kings and priests unto God, the ones to be qualified by the sacrifice of Jesus to offer unto God in righteousness.
John the Baptist was also able to prophesy such of Christ; John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which TAKETH AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD.
He prophesied Jesus as the one to take away the sin of the world. So, our opening verse reveals the truth of Christ as the real PURGER and PURIFIER, who took away sin and dealt with it forever through his death, burial, and resurrection. All who receive the gospel of Christ today are identified with this reality. Glory!
Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and PURIFY unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
In the above, Paul the Apostle reveals that it was to redeem man from sin and all iniquity and PURIFY them for himself as a peculiar people, that he died and rose again. Hallelujah?
