The training focused on equipping participants with essential knowledge on their roles and responsibilities, handling disciplinary hearings, understanding the Local Authorities Act, recruitment and regulatory processes, and the application of various labor acts and affirmative action policies. Leadership skills also took center stage, enabling participants to drive positive change within their respective councils. Held at the Swakopmund Municipality, this impactful session was organized by the Western Regional Coordinator Cde Richard Kayimbi and facilitated by Cde Mpasi Haingura, Daniel Nadunya, Ernest Pinar, and Cde Abraham. NAPWU & NQA We are excited to announce that a substantive agreement has been reached between the Namibia Public Workers Union (NAPWU) and the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) for members in the Bargaining Unit, effective from April 1, 2024. Here are the key terms: 1. Salary Adjustment: ➡️ Basic salaries for all employees in the Bargaining Unit will see a 5% increase backdated to the Effective Date. 2. Housing Allowance: ➡️ Housing Allowance will remain at 26% of each employee’s basic salary. 3. Medical Aid Contribution: ➡️ NQA’s contribution to medical aid for employees will increase from 75% to 80% starting April 1, 2024. 4. Pension Fund Contributions: ➡️ Pension contributions stay the same, with NQA contributing 16% and employees contributing 7%. 5. Transport Allowance: ➡️ Transport Allowance will increase by N$100, raising it from N$1,350 to N$1,450. This agreement demonstrates the commitment of NAPWU and NQA to enhancing employee benefits and supporting financial well-being. Any planned decision to undo the gains of Namibian workers by appealing against this award could be seen as going against state policies that aim to promote job security and improve labor conditions. This action might be perceived as undermining government efforts, especially during an election year, and could be viewed as sabotage of the government's goals to ensure fair treatment of workers. This agreement brings significant improvements for our dedicated members and marks another milestone in our commitment to advocating for workers' rights and benefits. **Key Highlights of the Agreement:** ✅ **Salary Adjustment:** A 5.7% increase in the Total Remuneration Package (TRP) for all staff members in the Bargaining Unit (job grades A - D1), effective from 1st April 2024 and payable by 31st July 2024. ✅ **Subsistence and Travel Allowance:** A joint review of the current Subsistence and Travel Rates will be conducted, with recommendations to be submitted to the Executive Committee by 31st October 2024. ✅ **Water Allowance:** A joint review of the current Water Allowance will also be carried out, with recommendations to be submitted to the Executive Committee by 31st October 2024.
