The Roads Authority (RA) and the Namibia Public Workers Union (NAPWU) have successfully concluded wage negotiations for the 2024/2025 financial year, with the signing of a collective wage agreement in Windhoek.

The agreement, signed by Dr. Conrad Lutombi, CEO of the Roads Authority, and Comrade Gideon Thomas, Head of Education and Strategic Development at NAPWU, marks a significant achievement for both parties. The deal provides for a 6% increase in basic salaries for employees within the bargaining unit classified under Paterson Grades A-C. Additionally, a 10% increase in transport and housing allowances has been agreed upon for grades A to C5, with Road Inspectors receiving a boost in their cell phone allowance from N$270 to N$400.

Dr. Lutombi, speaking at the signing ceremony, reaffirmed the Roads Authority's commitment to ensuring fair compensation for its employees. "This agreement reflects our dedication to addressing the needs of our staff while maintaining the financial sustainability of the Authority," he stated.

On behalf of NAPWU, Comrade Gideon Thomas also reaffirmed the union's commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of its members. He expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the negotiations, highlighting that the agreed terms will help improve the livelihoods of the workers.

The agreement is retroactively effective from April 1, 2024, and mandates that all wage increases and adjustments be implemented within 30 days of signing. Governed by Namibian law, any disputes arising from the agreement will be handled by the Office of the Labour Commissioner and the Labour Court of Namibia.

The collaboration between the Roads Authority and NAPWU in reaching this agreement underscores the importance of constructive dialogue and mutual respect in labor relations, benefiting both the employees and the organization.
