CAMP KIPWE

Huddled in the rocks, with sweeping views across the Aba Huab valley, Camp Kipwe is full of surprises, starting when guests first arrive. It appears as if rocks have tumbled down the hill to reveal this gem of a camp. The setting is one of intimacy and space. An inviting lounge area, where birds fly in to enjoy the water seeping from the rocks, a refreshing swimming pool nestled in the rocks and a scattering of bungalows complete this eco friendly camp.

‘Kipwe’, meaning blessed in Swahili, is nestled in the boulders, facing out onto superb scenery.

The nine rooms are round in shape, with decks to admire the view. The outside, open bathrooms adjoining the bedrooms have boulder, cement and rock walls, and roofs of rough mopane branches. An additional suite provides luxury accommodation for discerning travellers.

The central area of the camp is raised and comprises four thatched domes; the reception area and curio shop, dining room and lounge. A small swimming pool built into the rocks and a viewpoint with 360 degrees of breathtaking beauty, are two attractive outdoor features.

Activities at the camp include nature drives with the possibility of seeing the desert-adapted elephants, Twyfelfontein excursions to the rock engravings with Kipwe’s experienced guides and self guided walks.

In proximity to the Nyae Nyae Pans and Khaudom National Park, Tsumkwe Country Lodge is the only and most ideal starting point to explore the Zambezi (Caprivi) Region and Botswana via the Dobe border post.

This part of the country is still revered as “off the beaten track” leading into a wilderness paradise. Magnificent Baobab trees adorn the flat landscape at which the Dorsland Trekkers took respite on their way northwards. Over into Botswana the Aha Hills and Tsodilo Hills lure you to explore its rich history and San rock art.

Excavations around these hills over the last 30 years have revealed pottery, iron, glass beads, shell beads, carved bone and stone tools dating back over 90,000 years.

The Okavango Delta, a unique pulsing wetland or alluvial fan covering thousands of square kilometers of Kalahari Desert in northern Botswana remains a world wonder along this route.

Tsumkwe Country Lodge is the only accommodation facility on the Namibian side of this area that offers 24 well-appointed chalets with ensuite facilities in a rustic, yet comfortable style. The ten individual campsites are clean, have electricity and water, six campsites share a communal ablution facility. Four of the campsites have their own ablution facilities.

En route from Swakopmund to the Etosha Pan nestled between the majestic Ugab Terraces, lies a place of mystery amongst wind-sculpted rock and far horizons.
This place is called Vingerklip Lodge.
Accommodation at Vingerklip Lodge consists of 25 units made up of 12 double rooms, 12 family suites and 1 luxury suite. Each room has an en-suite bathroom and separate entrance. The difference between the family suite and double room is that the family suite has a mezzanine floor with an additional double bed. The luxury suite is located on top of the Ugab Terraces, and is more commonly known as “Heaven’s Gate”. Experience breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and unmatched splendor of the Namibian sunset from your private terrace.
We have two fully licensed restaurants at our lodge offering delicious cuisine. These are the main Vingerklip Lodge restaurant and the “Eagles Nest”. Day visitors are welcome at the Vingerklip Lodge restaurant, however it is advised to phone ahead to secure your booking.The Eagles Nest restaurant serves dinner buffet only and is located up on the plateau. Capacity is limited to 20 people, with a surcharge of N$100 per person.
Apart from a number of walks and day trips, we offer a number of activities such as sundowner drives, Bushman art tours and ziplining.
