What an awesome story - Elephants are highly sensitive, no doubt John the elephant came by to bid his namesake farewell 🐘🤍

Heart-warming story by John Adendorff, now with African Parks, about his namesake, an Elephant named 🐘 John 🐘.

John (The Human) writes:
"We brought this majestic bull from Kruger and named him John. He was introduced to help supplement the Addo genetics, but he didn’t take too well to life in Addo Main Camp — his biggest quest was always to find fresh, clean water. He would open JoJo tanks like a can opener, hunt down fresh water pipes and taps, and even pull pipes out of boreholes.

I was once instructed to have him euthanised — but there was no way that was going to happen. After several attempts, we finally moved him to the Zuurberg side of the park, to a section called Nyathi. Almost instantly, he stopped his antics. He never damaged another pipe, tank, or borehole again. The Nyathi section had flowing, crystal-clear streams — all he had ever wanted.

As I was preparing to say my farewell to Addo after 28 years, I hadn’t seen John for months. Three days before I left, he appeared at my gate to my house, one last time. This photo captures that final memory. I believe he’s still alive and well somewhere in the Zuurberg mountains, drinking his beloved fresh water."
