Some time farming is hard but that doesn't mean it's impossible.

Monday Motivation: KEEP PUSHING. Day 33 post planting and we went in with our routine preventative sprays, second dose of top dressing, and ridging. Ok, our field is looking nice.

Anyways, so our friends Green Thumb Media are organizing their first event! You know GTM is big on cultivating connections so you’ll have an agronomist, the accountant (because farming as a business right!?) ALSO, for relatable content; we’ll be able to hear the experience of a farmer that’s farmed potato commercially with over 10 years experience! To top it all off, a LIMA PRODUCTION BUDGET will also provided for attendees! So keep your eyes and ears out to the GTM page for updates.

Otherwise, what do you have planned for this week?

This is how it all started.

From losing her job, and losing a house to fire, she rose from the ashes to create greater pastures in the ruins.

Not all losses are meant to define you, the grass is only greener where you water it. The shanty of Groangab Dam is rife with unemployment. After losing her job in 2015, and her house to fire in 2017. Mama Aguste responded with resilience in the form of a watering can. Starting her first garden in the backyard to feed her kids after the devastating fire, she is an inspiration to those who dare to look for opportunities where there seem to be none.

Farming the Future visited one of her gardens in the silver settlement of Goreangab, to talk about the struggles of an unemployed mother and the journey to self-sustenance. Mama Aguste is an icon, deserving of recognition for her contribution to the settlement of Goreangab dam. Her decision to start a backyard garden has sprouted into a project that feeds not only her kids but her whole community.

A greater world is one where everyone with the capacity rolls their sleeves and flips the dirt. In a world where opportunities lie everywhere, everyone if busy looking at the government to water their grass. Mama Aguste is living proof of the notion that charity begins at home. We remain fortunate to live in an age where education can be acquired around every corner. The knowledge to feed oneself is a great part of self-preservation. Dear youth, the dirt is full of potential.

Greener pastures at the farm
It's great to speak to farmers and hear their perspective on the world. While many people dream of experiencing camping life, traveling great distances to spend a night under the stars, and escaping the pollution and noise of the city, those of us who grew up on a farm knows the value of waking up to the sound of a rooster at 5 a.m.

However, city life can be alluring, and many of us have been tempted by the flashy cars and beautiful apartments of corporate life. It's heartbreaking to see some of my peers reduced to begging for coins on the streets.

The sad truth is that some of them might have been better off if they had stuck to generational farming and modernized it. We often underestimate the benefits of having readily available land and a family ready to jump on board.
