Last year I shot a short film for Gabe Sentlinger whom I had never worked with before. His short film was a concept that I had a really hard time visualizing. That's the probably one of the worst situations to be in as DOP. Not being able to fully understand the story makes it hard to set my scene and have my shots roll together. Well we slowed things down a little and found a way to communicate. Last night I got to see the finished project with some of the crew and special guests. It all made sense and I think it was beautiful.
I've been using this crappy weather to get some gear built for next years filming. Here is a short video showing my RED Komodo rain cover. I designed it based off of the sports broadcast camera style. The hard plastic tube provides shelter from the rain and allows for the whole unit to be removed and packed for transport and if needed I can just quickly throw a heavy garbage bag over the whole works and it keeps the fans clear.

So today I was on my way to the beach in search of a heron to film. Well I found another crazy set of flyers. This is the first time I've ever filmed kite surfing...I was unprepared with the wrong ND filters and not used to shooting at 400mm on a moving target while running manual focus. Thankfully the @miller_tripods CX8 smoothed it all out. I think it turned out pretty good...some more practice and who knows!
Sidenote: if anybody recognizes the guy I was filming can you tag him...I had to leave before I could talk to him.
