Sharing Intelligence to Combat Cybercrime: Zahid Urges the Establishment of an Interpol-like Organization

PUTRAJAYA - 20 JAN - Malaysia has proposed the formation of an Asean Cybercrime Task Force, modeled after Interpol, to strengthen regional collaboration and enable real-time intelligence sharing against digital threats. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi highlighted the rising complexity of cybercrime, terrorism, and transnational crimes, calling for proactive, intelligence-driven measures to address these challenges. He noted that Malaysia suffered over RM1.22 billion in financial losses from cybercrime last year and detected millions of cyber threats, underscoring the need to bolster cyber resilience through advanced technologies like AI-driven predictive policing, blockchain-based identity verification, and enhanced public-private partnerships.

Speaking at the Asia International Security Summit and Expo 2025 (AISSE 2025), Zahid emphasized the importance of balancing technological advancements, such as AI and blockchain, with ethical considerations to safeguard privacy rights. Themed "Asia United: Charting the Future of Global Peace and Security through Law Enforcement Collaboration," the summit gathers over 300 companies from 48 countries, along with security experts, to discuss innovative solutions and strategies for global security. The three-day event is expected to attract more than 5,000 trade visitors and 1,000 seminar participants, driving unity and sustainable development in the field of security.

Top Glove CEO: Other States Should Adopt i-City's Concept for Greater Profitability

SHAH ALAM - 20JAN -Tan Sri Lim Wee Chai, founder of Top Glove Corporation, believes that the i-City concept in Selangor should serve as a model for similar developments across Malaysia to elevate local projects to international standards. He views i-City as a successful mixed-use development that integrates commercial, residential, and entertainment spaces, all while emphasizing sustainability and community engagement. Aligned with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, i-City aims to attract international tourists and contribute to the nation's tourism objectives.
