Edliew - DefenceChannel Welcome to our defence channel where we showcase our defence-related video content and defence news. We are only here to uphold their good image, nothing more.

We are a group of defence enthusiasts working full-time as digital video producers for over 30 years. Obviously, we are no experts in the defence field and most of what we know is hearsay from people in this field, and from articles that we read. We fit well in the "palatao" category 😅 Still, we do our best to check what is factual and what is not. Our interest in defence first started when we wer

e invited to pitch the LIMA'17 media broadcasting assignment. We needed footage for the pitch, so began our journey in plane spotting. We did not secure the job but from then on we continued to make friends with people closely related to the defence world and the Armed Forces. Folks from the Air Force started to engage us for video production work and we simply offer our assistance whenever possible. Our proudest moments are when we see our work bring smiles to those in the force, and once in a while, we do get a pat on our back for a job well done. This opportunity to learn things that we laymen seldom get to experience, and understand regimental life is not everyone's cup of tea. We remind ourselves to keep within our limits as not everything is meant for public consumption. Over the years we have invested a lot of money into this "hobby" and it saddens us when we see our works get downloaded for others' gain. Do respect our rights as we too do our best not to download others' work and rather share the link to their work. Through our work in the channel, we hope it provides you with a better understanding of the Malaysia Armed Force. Do let us know what you think of the page and most importantly, how we could make it better. Regards,
Ed Liew

Wah, it's Mildef International Technologies' turn to welcome the Secretary-General to Kementerian Pertahanan Malaysia to their bigger facilities at Sendayan TechValley (bigger because I'm not sure if there is another set-up in Kuala Lipis). My first impression of this manufacturing facility is that it seems well set up. Recognisable are the heavyweight overhead gantry cranes and a metal sheet cutting machine.

At the moment, the factory looks empty, perhaps awaiting the said soon-to-be-announced tender for Tentera Darat Malaysia 136 units of High Mobility Armoured Vehicle (HMAV) and maybe the High Mobility Light Tactical Vehicle (HMLTV) as well. If the program goes their way, Mildef will most likely be getting the steel from Indonesia, according to Mr Marhalim. Perhaps we'll see more partnerships in the project.

As for me I'm looking at their capability to have enough skilled manpower to complete the multi million ringgit project. Will it involves foreign participation? For now, we wait.

ps. Second photo, on the rotating assembling machine, a Tarantula or Rentaka?

Secretary General to Kementerian Pertahanan Malaysia walkabout took him to Institut Penyelidikan Sains dan Teknologi Pertahanan. Some interesting photos shared by the ministry, only lack details of what's being worked on. The octocopter drone with two mortar shells, hybrid powered? Its propellers arrangement looks different too, installed in a top and bottom placement.

Most of the products shown are from Mildef International Technologies. We can see familiar faces from the company, on hands to brief the KSU on their products that are being tested at STRIDE perhaps?

I still wonder what happened to the Kawbra UGV which was showcased to the public at DSA 2022 🤔

I forgot today is 1st of November. People in Subang or Port Klang saw any "green" helos?

Today at the Royal Armoured Corps event, a nice looking Ferret Scout Car (a backup unit can also be seen on standby in the video live stream) has the Chief of Tentera Darat Malaysia onboard for his parade inspection.
The comeback of the Ferret which featured a machine gun turret to their ceremonial event is definitely refreshing. Hope they'll continue with the tradition and we get to see it in their future events as well.

Busy touching base in his new portfolio, Secretary General to Kementerian Pertahanan Malaysia today visited the country's indigenous military vehicle manufacturer, Cendana Auto.

Looking at their Facebook post, three photos caught my eye. That armoured vehicle, is that one of Tentera Darat Malaysia's K200 IFVs? Many would have known that Cendana Auto recently signed an agreement with Hanwha Aerospace - 한화에어로스페이스 to upgrade one of the IFV for TDM evaluation and test. If it's so, looks like work has started for them.

Photos of a truck with a power circuit and a commercial washing machine, is this a new field laundry vehicle prototype by Cendana Auto or was there a tender by the Army for this vehicle that I missed out on? Anyone know anything about this?

Last interesting photo was the turret ring. This was the only confirmation I received from Cendana Auto, a product which they reverse engineer for their vehicle weapons mount. This little efforts of their save the Army a lot of money if were to import the turret ring.

Always good to see how local entities are able to innovate to meet Angkatan Tentera Malaysia's needs and requirements.

Black Hawk Down has been explained in many different views. Found this animated graphic illustration on the rescue mission which involves the Angkatan Tentera Malaysia MALBATT team over the street of Mogadishu in 1993. The explanatory presentation gives us a birds-eye view of the timeline of where and what happened in the event. Malaysia's 160+ Army personnel and their Condor APCs can be seen as an instrumental part of the mission's success.

The Operations Room YouTube channel puts much effort into recreating battle scenes from wars and conflicts. Some good videos on the success and failure of missions can be found here.

From 2025 Budget proposal, the sum of RM675 million are to be allocated for Agensi Penguatkuasaan Maritim Malaysia as an immediate solution to beef up their operation needs and requirements. DG of Coast Guard shared a breakdown of what's to expect.

1. RM150 million will be allocated for phase two of MMEA's Ship Life Extension Programme (SLEP) which includes six ships.
2. RM350 million for the procurement of a Multi-Purpose Mission Ship (MPMS). This force multiplier asset will see an increase sea operation efficiency for MMEA.
3. RM160 million for an additional of two New GenerationPatrol Craft (NGPC) with the latest surveillance technologies.
4. RM15 million to fund the refurbishment of United States Coast Guard (USCGC) gift of the former Steadfast Cutter.

On the surface, the sum to be allocated is higher than previous, it's hardly enough for MMEA to cover the extend of our EEZ more so South China Sea. Note also that the country's Maritimer enforcers are heavily taxed with CCG constant incursions. More need to be done.

No mention of the fate of the two Tun Fatimah class OPVs as in slowly drown within the bureaucracy. Good thing would be the four AW189 helos program is ongoing and not converted to lease buy.

For a nation to be defence self-reliance is a big achievement. To rise to such heights, people in the defence world know it would involve a huge financial investment and time. Defence journalist Dzirhan Mahadzir shared his thoughts on this matter and detailed some examples of how we did not meet the mark in developing a defence industry over decades.

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2025 Budget's initiative to empower the local defence industry through technology transfers from military asset suppliers and encourage exports is a timely step toward ensuring self-reliance for the nation’s armed forces, say defence experts.

As soon as Kementerian Pertahanan Malaysia shared their 2025 Budget infographic on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/share/p/hhWMfoTqcozEmKer/ , one of the more "adventures" graphic was replaced by a slightly more subtle one. They do like Russian stuff? 😅 I like how they tease us with expectations and with PMX Anwar Ibrahim specifically mentioned local drone specialist Aerodyne, perhaps we'll see such AI technologies being use for border monitoring.

What procurement plans will RM5.8 billion help kick-start?
