#HUT66TUDM - Kuantan AB Walkabout
Bit by bit we're editing the footage that's in our archive 😅
Hi, it's back to four months ago at the Tentera Udara Diraja Malaysia's 66-anniversary open day held in Kuantan AB. Did our little walkabout when the crowd started clear the static display area as it drizzled. Our focus was on all the assets being displayed and some interviews (most of the personnel declined when I told them we are YouTube and Facebook based). Anyhow, managed to get some close-up views of the ACs' weapons and gears used, which is a rare sight for us. The "brand new" still hot from the oven Mighty Hornet M45-07 was on display and two new support vehicles as well.
Thank you to the two officers who were willing to be interviewed. Oh, we met up with a number of friends from the AF and a few of you guys as well. Was a fun trip, can't say about the drive back...
ps. Checkout the AF's latest Facebook post, something from Kuantan AB to Putrajaya soon.
Info from the Parliament as well, the series of evaluations and tests conducted on Mildef International Technologies's Tarantula, the result was reported to meet the Tentera Darat Malaysia technical specification needs and requirements. These are:
2021 - Capability evaluation done by Institut Penyelidikan Sains dan Teknologi Pertahanan STRIDE and the Army on local terrain.
2023 - Ballistic test by Defence Technology Institute in Thailand.
- Mine/Underbelly ballistic test by Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, South Africa.
Well, will we see the Tarantula 2.0 in service with the Army anytime soon?
And the Rentaka 2.0, a well known military page on Facebook did whisper kind of an update to us about the white HMLTV...
The raw power of the KONŠTRUKTA-Defence EVA M2 6X6 155mm 52 Cal. Self-Propelled Howitzer.
#HUT91ATM - Dynamic Demo, kind of...
This was one of those challenging spot we had endured by far. Waking at 3.30am to arrive on the dot at 6am in Kem Segenting, we did not manage a seat for the Angkatan Tentera Malaysia's 91st-anniversary event. We knew the weather was not in our favour as we spotted on their rehearsal day but the sun did come out for a peek. Little did we know that the tide would also join to make life even more difficult. We're lucky that one army personnel allowed us to move up to the higher ground of the camp when the crowd grew (then, uneventful for him, he was reprimanded by other officers for this kind gesture).
Back to the video, it's a mix of footage from the rehearsal and actual day. From the tight spots we're spotting from, there was only that much we could see. New to this year's presentation noticeably was the debut of the T@Tentera Darat Malaysia's MD-530G with RGK11 riding "shotgun". The air assault looks happening enough with the Tentera Udara Diraja Malaysia fighters and the many helos from the three branches. Five ships and three FICs of Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia were present at this demo.
Personally, I prefer the previous demonstration captured in 2021 https://youtu.be/vjRRxNV4Yxg Could be the angle from where I was shooting from, then it was an action pack "amphibious" assault. FYI too, after standing in the rain for over an hour we did not manage to get any shot of the Pantai Cahaya Negeri demonstration as it was cancelled because of bad weather.

Yes, we were late by over four months. Have some time to edit a segment of the Tentera Udara Diraja Malaysia 66th anniversary which was held in Kuantan AB. We got the media pass to enter with our gear but did not manage to shoot from any good spots hence the missing portion in the ground action scene. As the AF is time managing their air assets, there was no solo aerial display, only a combined tactical display. This edit is another of our bad creations, with lots of off-focus, bad exposure... Hope you guys like it.
ps. As our YouTube channel lacks viewers' support which means we don't earn to keep our plane spotting going, we are test posting videos on Facebook instead. I have no idea how Facebook's monetary works but with more activities here, maybe we can earn a few USD here.
Nothing to deliver
Today #HUT91ATM outing was a disappointment. Arriving at 6am still unable to get a place at the main demonstration area. Our plan B was the beach but only to know that the tide was really high this morning. Lucky for us a kind Army personnel manning the area allows us and many families with young children to climb onto the high ground of their camp area. Rain came when the first flying formation starts. Have to clean the lens over and over again due to this, not many usable footage...
ps. Hope that the soldier do not get reprimanded because of his kind action. He got questioned by a few other personnel and MPs.
And they are back in Malaysia from a quick stopover at Bali.
The journey home for Tentera Udara Diraja Malaysia team Raven started this morning, departed from Darwin to Bali. The #PitchBlack2024 team consists of the F/A-18D of No 18 Squadron and an A400M of No 8 Squadron will most likely follow their usual route, guessing arriving at Butterworth AB tomorrow afternoon. Will be on the lookout for Bagan's spotters cm welcoming team photos. 😉
#PitchBlack2024, in preparation for the return journey
Tentera Udara Diraja Malaysia No 8 Squadron A400M returned to Darwin in preparation for the ferry flight home three F/A-18D of the No 18 Squadron. For the #PitchBlack2024 exercise, the Grizzly is tasked not only as logistics airlifter but also to provide air refuelling for the fighters.
I'm guessing some notable personal items to have when travelling in the A400M are digital entertainment gadgets, earphones and loads of power banks 😁
The Unfortunate MM7297 (36-23)
Some footage of Aeronautica Militare MM7297 (36-23) that was lost in #PitchBlack2024 on the 24th of July. This was her stopover at Subang AB before their ferry flight to Darwin.
