It is the hearts that build a home and family . I remembered nostalgically one of my childhood stories, watching and helping my late mum, even though she was illiterate, made love letters, ( kuih kapet) tapioca flour cookies (kuih bangkit) and mini sponge cake ( kuih bahulu). She will use charcoal to bake all those cookies and cakes. Most of it was for sale to assist my dad financially. The burnt and not so good ones were for own consumption. Though we stayed in a simple abode, made of nipah palms, pieces of wood and zinc, we hardly complain but felt happy as a family. Though poor, my dad who was a fish monger realized that education was the only way out of poverty. He saved every single cent and make sure all my siblings had access to education according to our abilities. I am proud to say none of my family members were involved in drugs or crime and presently hold reasonable good jobs to earn a livelihood. Those who are better off more financially are always willing to assist siblings who are less better off. My parents have taught me so many life values!
