How to Play the 5-3-2 Formation:

The 5-3-2 formation uses three center-backs, two wingbacks, three midfielders, and two strikers. It looks defensive on paper, but it can be very attacking if the wingbacks and midfielders are active.

The three centre-backs stay compact in defence and spread wide in possession. The midfield three protect the back line, keep the ball, and start attacks. The two strikers lead the attack and should have different qualities (one may be strong, one quick).

Wingbacks are key — they provide width, crosses, and extra attackers when going forward, while dropping back to defend.

Defensively, the 5-3-2 is very solid because of the five-man back line. The main risk is sitting too deep for too long, which can stop the team from attacking well. Balance between defence and forward runs from wingbacks and midfielders is the key to making the system work.
