Global travel is entering a new phase where technology, work and wellbeing are no longer separate conversations. According to Jacques Walger and James Siegl, co-founders of Scapade, 2026 will mark a turning point in how people live, work and move around the world.

With the bleisure market projected to surpass USD1 trillion by 2030 and more than 40 million digital nomads globally, travel technology is rapidly evolving beyond flights and hotel bookings. Drawing from years of remote working and global travel experience, Walger and Siegl have outlined six key trends shaping the future of travel in 2026.

1️⃣ Work-from-anywhere becomes the norm
What started as a niche digital nomad movement is fast becoming mainstream. Research shows 54 percent of workers worldwide would consider working abroad if allowed. By 2026, geographic flexibility is expected to be embedded into HR policies, corporate benefits and enterprise tech systems.

2️⃣ Mobility tech rivals the laptop in importance
A new category of “mobile office essentials” is emerging. From all-in-one powerbanks and portable batteries to modular organisers, universal adapters and trackable gear, mobility tech will become as essential as laptops for remote professionals.

3️⃣ Backpacks get smarter and more secure
As travellers carry more high-value tech, traditional backpacks are being reimagined. Modular, trackable and security-focused designs built specifically for remote work lifestyles are expected to become the standard.

4️⃣ Noise control and privacy tools go mainstream
With cafes, airports and co-working spaces replacing traditional offices, demand for noise-cancelling gear, privacy screens and focus-enhancing tools will surge, turning them into everyday productivity essentials.

5️⃣ Remote work hubs shape global trends
Cities such as Lisbon, Bali and Mexico City are emerging as innovation hubs, where new travel tech is tested and refined before spreading worldwide.

6️⃣ Travel tech shifts towards wellbeing
Efficiency alone is no longer enough. Travel technology and accessories are increasingly designed to support mental wellbeing, balance and healthier relationships between work, life and travel.

What this really means is that by 2026, travel tech will no longer just support trips — it will actively shape modern lifestyles, redefining how people work, move and stay well across borders.

✈️ Flying to Singapore in 2026? Read This Before You Book 🇸🇬

Singapore is rolling out a major immigration change starting January 2026 — and it could stop some travellers before they even board the plane.

Under a new no-boarding policy, airlines such as Singapore Airlines, Scoot, Emirates and AirAsia will be required to deny boarding to passengers who are deemed ineligible to enter Singapore — even if they already have a valid ticket.

Why the change?
👉 In 2025 alone, 41,800 foreign travellers were denied entry at Singapore’s borders due to immigration and security concerns.

Who may be affected?
• Travellers with past visa overstays or illegal work records
• Those previously denied entry or deported
• Passengers with incomplete or false travel documents
• Individuals flagged as security or public safety risks

What this really means is simple: immigration checks are moving earlier, right to the airline check-in counter.

If you’re planning to visit or transit via Singapore in 2026:
✔️ Double-check your eligibility before booking
✔️ Make sure all travel documents are clean and up to date
✔️ Avoid last-minute bookings if you’ve had past entry issues
✔️ Stay updated with airline announcements

This shift could also impact regional travel, with some tourists choosing nearby destinations like Malaysia or Indonesia instead.

Bottom line: Singapore remains open to legitimate travellers — but preparation matters more than ever.

🎣🌊 Sungai Sekawang shines as Port Dickson’s hidden gem for anglers and nature lovers

Port Dickson’s Sungai Sekawang beach in Batu 15 is stepping into the spotlight with the 2025 Port Dickson Surfcasting Challenge happening this Sunday — and for the first time, more than 500 anglers are expected to take part.

According to Negeri Sembilan State Heritage, Technology, Innovation and Digital Action Committee chairman Mohd Faizal Ramli, Sungai Sekawang is a biodiversity-rich beach with a unique seabed that makes it one of the state’s best surfcasting spots. Anglers here can hook species like siakap, senangin, stingray, gelama, grouper, sembilang and duri.

Beyond fishing, the event plays a bigger role. It helps promote Sungai Sekawang as a nature-based tourism destination while supporting Visit Negeri Sembilan Year 2026 and Visit Malaysia 2026. The state is also actively identifying more “hidden gems” like Batu 15 to strengthen its ecotourism, heritage and family recreation offerings.

Adding to the excitement, the Surfcasting Challenge offers over RM25,000 in cash prizes, with RM10,000 for the winner.

From peaceful beaches and fresh seafood to fishing, camping and photography, Sungai Sekawang shows why Port Dickson is more than just a seaside town — it’s a destination waiting to be discovered.

🌊 BE @ Penang 2025 | Post-Event Highlights

Here’s a look back at how the 9th edition of Malaysia’s leading Business Events conference unfolded at Setia SPICE Convention Centre on 11–12 December.

With the theme Be the Wave, BE @ Penang 2025 opened with a powerful reminder from Mr Ashwin: the industry must lead change, spark creativity, and shape the future together. From its early beginnings to today, the conference has grown into a trusted regional platform for ideas, partnerships, and real industry impact.

Penang’s emergence as a hub for E&E, AI, IoT, chemistry, and sustainability featured strongly, reflecting the same transformation reshaping the Business Events landscape.

One message stood out clearly. Even in the age of AI, nothing replaces face-to-face connection. Real conversations still move industries forward.

India is gearing up for a major push in MICE tourism 🇮🇳

From 2026, the Ministry of Tourism plans to set up city-level Convention Promotion Bureaus as independent bodies to strengthen India’s Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) ecosystem.

The announcement was made by Suman Billa, Additional Secretary and Director General, Ministry of Tourism, during the IEIA EventTech & MarTech Summit 2025 in New Delhi.

With world-class venues like Bharat Mandapam, Yashobhoomi and Jio World Centre, and MICE prioritised under the Incredible India campaign, the goal is clear: turn Indian cities into globally competitive MICE destinations. The new City MICE Bureaus will act as single-window facilitators for permissions, partnerships and event support, with an ambitious target to double India’s share of the global MICE market within five years.

Industry leaders also highlighted strong growth ahead, with India’s MICE market projected to more than double by 2030, driven by public-private collaboration and greater adoption of technology and AI in event planning.

Malaysia is putting its villages on the global tourism map 🇲🇾

The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development has launched the Desa Kirana initiative, targeting 100,000 visitors to rural homestays as part of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Desa Kirana will feature 25 curated village tourism packages nationwide, built around heritage and culture, nature, local food, traditional products, and real village life.

The programme is expected to attract strong interest from international markets, especially Japan and South Korea, while boosting local incomes through homestays and community-based tourism. The ministry is targeting a 20% increase in rural community income by 2026.

With travellers increasingly seeking authentic countryside experiences beyond cities, Desa Kirana aims to position Malaysia’s villages as must-visit destinations through to 2027.
