Cold Front/"Norte" #16 is influencing our weather, bringing comfortable temperatures, cloudiness, and chances of rain & breeziness over the next few days. The wind (viento) is expected to change directions by tomorrow (from SE to NE), and the most wind is expected on Wednesday. That's also when the heaviest rain is forecast for Isla Mujeres. The red dots on the graphic indicate the front becoming stationary and the encircled areas forecast rain.

The Department of Urban Development, Environment and Transport, together with SEDETUS (Secretary of Sustainable Territorial Urban Development) have begun the topographic survey of the colonia La Guadalupana, as part of the municipal 'regularization' program. (Guadalupana is considered an 'irregular' colonia, and this process should provide deeds for the homeowners. It was preceded by court cases indicating there was no rightful owner to the homesteaded land.)

The downtown street repairs have moved to Lopez Mateos Avenue, affecting its intersections with Hidalgo and with Guerrero. The red X's mean closure to traffic in the blue area. The yellow sections are open to pedestrians, but not vehicles. Parking and trash pickup are also affected.

CHRISTMAS EVENT SCHEDULE CHANGE:

Christmas with the Kids is now scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 10 at 6:30p on the Town Square. (Not Saturday at 7:30p.) Previously, the Nutcracker performance was scheduled for Sunday evening. On the "Posadas en tu Colonia" schedule, there's a celebration planned at the Blue Dome on Sunday, at 6:30.

Here are the dates for the municipal Posadas-Christmas parties in the colonias.

Sunday, Dec 10th at the Blue Dome starting at 6:30p.

Tuesday, Dec. 19th at the Las Gaviotas Park Kiosk in Col. Salina Chica starting at 6p.

(The other three are on the mainland part of the municipality.)

The downtown events and processions are:

Saturday, Dec. 9--Christmas with the Kids starts at 7:30p on the Town Square.

Sunday, Dec. 10--A Performance of the Nutcracker on the Town Square starting at 7:30p.

Sunday, Dec. 17--Grand Christmas Festival at the Bicentennial Dome in colonia La Gloria at 5p.

Friday, Dec. 22--The Big Christmas Procession starting in front of the kindergarten that's just north of colonia Salina Chica (just south of the Bachilleres high school) at 4:00p. (This is a caravan of decorated vehicles with music, costumed characters, and festive participants tossing candy and small gifts as they tour the isle.)

The annual privately organized "Elmo's Christmas Caravan" is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 16 at 5:30p, lining up in the same location, facing south. Participants are encouraged to decorate their vehicles, dress festively, and bring treats &/or toys to toss.

You're invited to the Christmas With The Kids Festival on Saturday at the Town Square starting at 7:30p! The kindergarten students will be participating and there will be dance troupes performing, a children's Christmas show, vendors and surprises. There will be a variety of items for sale, including treats & sweets and arts & crafts.

Cold Front / "Norte" #13 is bringing some cloudiness, possible rain, and some breezes ("viento"/green squiggles). Today's skies are forecast to become increasingly "Nublado " (cloudy) as the afternoon progresses, advancing to "Cielo cubierto" (overcast). Rain (lluvia) probabilities for our municipality are at 95% today, zero tomorrow, 35% on Thursday and 95% for Friday. This is from Mexico's National Weather Service. It's been a pretty day so far.

THE LATEST MUNICIPAL SCHEDULE OF CHRISTMAS EVENTS has an additional festival on Sunday, Dec. 17 at the Bicentennial Dome in colonia La Gloria, and new titles for some of the other events, including a performance of the Nutcracker on Sunday, Dec. 10th.

Saturday, Dec. 9--Christmas with the Children is now titled Christmas Presentations (Performances) and still starts at 7:30p on the Town Square.

Sunday, Dec. 10--Is now a Performance of the Nutcracker on the Town Square starting at 7:30p.

Sunday, Dec. 17--Grand Christmas Festival at the Bicentennial Dome in colonia La Gloria at 5p.

Friday, Dec. 22--The Big Christmas Procession starting in front of the kindergarten that's just north of colonia Salina Chica (just south of the Bachilleres high school) at 4:00p. The municipal Christmas tree lights were turned on last evening, and here's the schedule of Christmas events:

Repairs to these streets will affect downtown traffic and parking through Tuesday, Dec. 5th. The blue color of Abasolo and Matamoros, as well as the section of Juarez between them, shows the location of the work, with the red X's indicating closure. The yellow sections of Juarez, with red X's, show were it is open to pedestrians but closed to traffic.
The arrows indicate traffic direction, with Guerrero still going north, while Mateos and Medina continue to have traffic going in both directions. The traffic on the southern section of Juarez which remains open continues to go northward.

Today's forecast looks good, with a likelihood of some "lloviznas" (drizzles) or "lluvias aisladas" (isolated showers), and warm temperatures from the upper 70's to upper 80's, under partly-lightly cloudy skies. Our weather is under the influence of a high pressure system "anticiclonico".

Partly cloudy skies and a chance of some rain are expected through Friday. The national weather service predicts light breezes of 3-6 mph (potentially gusting to 14 mph) from the east today, same tomorrow except from the northeast, Thursday from the southeast, and decreasing on Friday to 0-3 mph, from the southeast.

The extended forecast map shows Cold Front #11 moving southward, after it brings northern Mexico their first winter storm. The big arrows labeled "Corriente en Chorro" are the subtropical and polar jet streams.

The parade for the 113th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution is scheduled to begin at 7:30 am on Monday, November 20th. The first location of the performances/presentations will be in front of the API facility (the passenger ferry terminal). Women of Isla Mujeres are invited to participate in 16 Days of Activities for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, organized by the Women's Center. Various activities will be conducted focusing on raising awareness about the importance of eradicating violence against women. A broad are of low pressure is expected to form in the next few days and a Tropical Depression is likely to form late this week as the system begins moving northeastward across the western & central portions of the Caribbean Sea. The NHC advises those in Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic to monitor its progress because regardless of development, it is likely to produce heavy rains over portions of the Central American coast and the Greater Antilles toward the latter portion of this week.

The NHC says a broad area of low pressure is likely to form in the next few days and gradual development is possible thereafter. A Tropical Depression could form late this week while the system drifts northeastward across the western & central portions of the Caribbean Sea. Formation chance through 7 days is 60%.
The National Weather Service expects it to be windy and rainy today, tomorrow and Thursday, and windy on Wednesday. Cold front #9 is heading across the gulf toward the peninsula.

More road repairs began downtown yesterday and will continue through Wednesday, Nov. 15. The red X's indicate the closure of the blue section of Madero, where work is being done. The red arrows indicate traffic direction. The City advises using alternative streets, remembering to put out your trash, and not to park on the affected avenue. Your understanding is appreciated. They'll be replacing and repairing registers & manhole covers, fixing areas where water puddles, and removing & replacing some of the stamped concrete "cobblestones".

Stationary Cold Front #8 is interacting with a low pressure system over the Caribbean Sea, making our weather rainy and windy today. That satellite image is from about 7:30a. The national weather service predicts "intense" rain of 3-6 inches, with winds of 25-37mph, causing waves of 1-2 meters (3.3-6.6 ft). We're having impressive breakers again this morning. There's wind & rain in tomorrow's forecast, and the front is expected to move along by Monday.

The national weather service predicts that Cold Front #8 is likely continue affecting our weather through the weekend. The second and third graphics forecast intense rain of 3-6 inches and winds of 31-44 mph for our state today, with waves of 1-2 meters (3.3-6.6 ft).

It's Night of the Souls and the events on the Town Square (Municipal Esplanade) begin at 7:30 and attendees are encouraged to dress as Catrinas & Catrines.

The first event is at the downtown cemetery "Serenade to the Dearly Departed".

The second event is a procession down Hidalgo, from the Cemetery to the Town Square.

The rest of the events are on the Town Square and the six performances are listed on the graphic.

The Calaveritas Literarias are a type of verses with a wry, ironic or mischievous tone, dedicated to a person, living or dead (Jean Piaget is a private school on the island.)

Our forecast includes rain today, tomorrow and Thursday, and the Norte cold front arriving over the next 2-3 days.

The NHC says Central America may experience a Tropical Depression later this week:
Eastern Caribbean Sea (AL97):
A trough of low pressure over the eastern Caribbean Sea is producing a large area of showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions appear conducive for further development during the next several days while the system moves westward over the central and southwestern Caribbean Sea, and a tropical depression is likely to form by the latter part of this week. Regardless of development, this system has the potential to produce heavy rains over portions of Central America towards the end of the week.
