I am very excited to announce that this August I will make my debut as Pollione, a tenor role with great difficulties, a real challenge…
Pollione was sung by two of my favorite tenors, Franco Corelli and Mario Del Monaco so the expectations are very high… I have studied this role for over a year and feel it is absolutely right for my voice and it gives me the opportunity to say ‘happy birthday’ to the soprano I love most in my life, the legendary Maria Callas. My promise is that we will be very loyal to Vincenzo Bellini and his bel canto composition. Needless to say, that I have intensely studied the vocal lines of Franco Corelli and Mario Del Monaco in full detail and of course Placido Domingo and many of the great tenors that have played this role….
I am very proud of our cast, my dear friends soprano Joyce El-Khoury Joyce El-Khoury who will be an incredible Norma, of Teresa Carlomagno with whom I worked with in New York as Adalgisa, with the great bass Sava Venić Sava Vemic who will be a powerful Oroveso and tenor Alexander Peteoviç tenor.marev who will play my dear friend Flavio.
Most of all I am moved by our great maestro Eugene Kohn who was a friend of Maria Callas and has conducted Renata Tebaldi and Franco Corelli as well as Renata Scotto, Angela Gheorghiu, Jose Carreras and for many years Placido Domingo. His teacher was Fausto Cleva and the first opera he conducted was Norma.
Tom Volf Tom Volf is an amazing young director with incredible unique ideas who is a great lover of traditional classical directing and staging. We will experience the great art of Yiannis Metzikov who will dress and design our new production, David Negrin with his stage designs and Ersie Pitta who will choreograph our performances with immaculate grace and style.
Together with ERT Symphony Orchestra, we promise a historic performance and trust me, you must all be there in August under the stars of the Acropolis.
