What does a banana, an empanada, a toothbrush and a dirty diaper all have in common?
Our first ever experience at a resort was for a family wedding on the beach. Just after the ceremony, our little guy needed a change before the reception started.
Our room was on the 6th floor, directly above a perfectly positioned hottub with a beautiful view. While we were hanging his wet shorts on the balcony, he quickly grabbed his soiled diaper and ran out to the balcony yelling, "Stinky".
Before we knew it, the diaper was flying towards the hottub 6 stories below. Luckily it didn't hit anyone! We had to make the walk of shame to pick it up and also found his toothbrush and an empanada he had obviously thrown earlier. The banana found it's way down there the following day.
Our second trip to a hotel with our little man was to visit his Grandma who had flown out to spend the week with him.
Of course our balcony became the scene of several more catastrophes, including the launch site of wet clothes, hot wheels,
crayons and coloring books.
Atleast this time we had the smarts to ring the hotel a few days before arrival and insist on a ground floor room which made cleaning up a lot easier.
Moral of the story: When at a hotel with a toddler, to avoid the embarrassing walk of shame and maybe even a stinky diaper travelling at terminal velocity landing on some unexpecting bystander, choose the bottom floor whenever possible.

With the highest of highs and the lowest of lows...
2024 was definitely a year to remember, full of adventure and smiles as well as extremely sad moments.
On the one hand we were able to spend the full year together as a family living life on our terms. We spent time traveling with our son experiencing several new places and revisited some old favorite spots. Kai even got to meet one entire half of our family as they all flew down for a wedding.
On the other hand, we dealt with the heartache of loosing our dog and best friend Einstein after 13 years together. We also got some hard news regarding the health of family members that weighs heavy on our hearts.
2024 has definitely been one of the most important years of our lives together, and it's one we will never forget.
Wishing you all a Happy New Year, may 2025 be the year we all become the best version of ourselves!

Being creatures of comfort, we like things to be a certain way...

But that's just a natural defense mechanism kicking in, it's a fear of the unknown.
The real scam is having to wake up in a rush to leave our comfy beds. Working long hours and having to reheat the home cooked goodness. Having to wear clothes like a dress code for a job we don't really enjoy. And spending the better part of our life lining the pockets of someone else to make their life more comfortable.

Today marks 1 year since we officially closed our restaurant.
That also means it's been 1 full year that our family has been able to spend together without one of us having to leave for work.
One of the main reasons we started working online was so that we could be fully present parents and wouldn't have to miss out on any of those special moments with our son.
Another major reason we chose this path is that it gave us the ability to live life on our terms.
We've been able to move away from the big city.
We've been able to travel.
We've been able to spend lazy days on the beach.
We've been able to wake up and decide to drive 80km to a neighbouring town just because they have the best sticky buns in the world.
So far the plan has worked perfectly.
