Today marks 1 year since we officially closed our restaurant.
That also means it's been 1 full year that our family has been able to spend together without one of us having to leave for work.
One of the main reasons we started working online was so that we could be fully present parents and wouldn't have to miss out on any of those special moments with our son.
Another major reason we chose this path is that it gave us the ability to live life on our terms.
We've been able to move away from the big city.
We've been able to travel.
We've been able to spend lazy days on the beach.
We've been able to wake up and decide to drive 80km to a neighbouring town just because they have the best sticky buns in the world.
So far the plan has worked perfectly.

There are plenty of people who want the best for us.
We have the choice of who's opinion we decide to listen to and how it affects us.
Other people's opinions can have a profound impact on how we see ourselves and often times shape our behaviour.

The way we see our son's education playing out...
Worldschool when we can.
Homeschool when we have to.
Unschool always.
We've never been big fans of the current education system so we plan on creating our own system.
And if one day he decides he wants a specific career, we'll just reverse engineer the process by researching the necessary courses and training, and leaving all the unnecessary stuff alone.
We're not reinventing the wheel here. Many highly intelligent and successful people throughout history either didn't go or didn't finish school, and often were students of alternative forms of education.

June has been full of new experiences!
This month we're grateful to have escaped the heat of our home town La Paz. Even though we live near some of the nicest beaches in the country, the summer gets so hot that we can only enjoy them early in the morning or late for sunset.
We got our dog certified as an emotional support animal to be able to travel with her on planes and buses.
Now we're on the road in Mexico, enriching our lives with new sights and cultural experiences.
We're also keeping an eye out for potential places to move our family early next year.
This morning we decided to take a small road trip to Los Cerritos, about half way between La Paz and Los Cabos, for Kai's first surf experience.
Oddly enough, this was also the first place I ever tried surfing over 23 years ago. As a kid I bused from Vancouver all the way to the tip of the Bajas with little more than my backpack, a tent, and a couple hundred dollars to my name. I ended up camping on this beach for several months before deciding to hitchhike back to Vancouver.
When I arrived, apart from a few other campers, there was absolutely nothing here. 23 years later it's loaded with condos, hotels, restaurants and umbrellas fpr rent. Crazy how quickly things change.
It makes me reflect on my own life and how much I've changed too.
I used to be a poor backpacker travelling from hostel to hostel picking up work anywhere I could find it. Now my family runs an online business that allows us to work whenever and from wherever we choose. Instead of having to go in to work on a Monday morning, we get to road trip to a neighboring beach town to let our boy try surfing for the first time. We couldn't be more grateful for the life we live.
