Happy 113th birthday to the most beautiful state in the U.S.

In my opinion, there's no other state with a deeper, richer culture than New Mexican culture. New Mexico has a unique mix between Native American culture and other influences like Catholicism.

Sometimes we forget how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful place. With 310 days of sunshine, extraordinary landmarks like the Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands and some of the greatest food in the universe.

Let's not forget to mention The Pit, Carlsbad Caverns, Balloon Fiesta, Pie Town, Hot Springs, El Malpais, White Sands, Roswell, The Sandias, the native pueblos and tribes, one of the oldest towns in the country (Santa Fe), the Blue Hole, Hatch and much much more.

Our accent, slang and food proves how unique our state truly is.

Today would have been Leon Laureles' 59th birthday. We are honoring and celebrating with his family and loved ones today.

Leon was an amazing man who loved big and was incredibly generous. We are honored to know his niece, Arlene and are proud to fight for justice for Leon.

On May 10, 1996, Leon was murdered execution-style off of FM 2126 outside of Brownwood, Texas. His niece is tirelessly seeking answers for Leon's murder.

New Mexico State Police Investigate Quadruple Homicide in Belen

Belen, NM - On December 14, 2024, the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was requested to investigate a quadruple homicide that occurred at a residence on Camino Escondido in Belen.

Agents learned that at around 3:30 a.m., the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from Diego Leyva,16, who told the dispatcher he had killed his family. When deputies arrived, Diego walked out of the residence with his hands in the air and was extremely intoxicated. He was taken into custody without incident. Deputies entered the residence to find four deceased individuals. The Office of the Medical Investigator is still working to identify the victims. A handgun was located on the kitchen table.

Diego Leyva has been charged with (4) Open Counts of First-Degree Murder. He is still being held at an area hospital for detox. Once medically cleared, he will be booked into a juvenile detention facility. This incident is in the preliminary stages of investigation. New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau agents and Crime Scene Team are processing the scene and conducting interviews to learn what led up to these tragic events. Once more information is learned and the investigation is complete, it will be presented to the district attorney's office for prosecution.
