There are posts on Facebook indicating that with a good phone or camera you will see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).

Fact: it's highly unlikely that the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are visible from Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico today (or any day for that matter).

Here's why:

•Geographic Location: The Aurora Borealis typically occurs in high-latitude regions near the Arctic and Antarctic Circles. Mazatlán is located at a much lower latitude (subtropical) and wouldn't experience the geomagnetic storms that cause the Aurora.

•Light Pollution: Even if a faint Aurora were visible, Mazatlán is a city with light pollution. This would make it very difficult, if not impossible, to see the Aurora with the naked eye or even with a good camera phone.

The Facebook reports are likely misinformation. Here's a possibility:

•Misidentification: People might be mistaking another phenomenon for the Aurora Borealis, such as light reflections from fireworks or unusual cloud formations.

Here are some reputable sources for tracking the Aurora Borealis:

•National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center: https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/
•Space Weather Live: https://www.spaceweatherlive.com/

These websites provide real-time information on geomagnetic activity and forecasts for Aurora visibility in various locations.
