Sphiwe Chinguluma -a Mubas student was who recently nominated as a rising star for Southern Region Basketball League has made it into the final list of winners.

Sphiwe has finished second on the ladder of top 8 athletes that have made their way into the rising star team.

Speaking to PO, the student has expressed gratitude over the unwavering support she received from MUBAS community by voting for her to be amongst the winners.

"This is the win for us all. I really value the support I got from my fellow students, " she said.

As the academic year kicks off, first-year students across the country are embarking on their educational journeys to MUBAS.

The buzz of excitement fills the air as universities welcome fresh faces, and orientation programs unfold to help students acclimate to their new academic homes.

According to the school calendar, orientations are expected to start tomorrow on 22nd January. Orientations serve as crucial stepping stones for students navigating the unfamiliar terrain of university life.

Amidst the sea of eager learners, one student stands out, radiating pure joy as her dream of attending a university comes true.

Speaking to PO, Shantel Kaupa says that "The culmination of hard work and aspirations is met with the reality of setting foot on a campus she had long envisioned".

Finally, Kaupa told PO that she will work extremely hard, respect lecturers and make sure she follows the rules and regulations of school.

Dazzle Credit Technologies which is owned by a fourth year student, Dickson Nzeruzayekha has organized a charity work that aims at offering free tech solution services to all students at the campus.

The event is expected to take place on 3 February, in a very first week after opening school.

Speaking to PO, Nzeruzayekha has indicated that the company will be offering a comprehensive list of services including windows installation, system updating, virus scanning and data recovery.

According to the founder, first year students will be offered a special assistance in tasks such as adding email address, connecting to eduroam and navigating essential online sites.

"The students will just be required to bring a student ID for identication. Otherwise, everyone is free to come, " he said.

A team of 15 members is expected to be offering the free services starting from 8:30 in the morning up to 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the event has received blessing from management.

One of the students, Sphiwe Chinguluma has been nominated to be part of a rising star team for Southern region basketball league.

Sphiwe is one of the female students who have contributed a lot to sports at Mubas.

Speaking to PO, Chinguluma has described the recognition as an honor to her sports career and Mubas at large.

However, she has asked the mubas community to vote for her to be part of the rising team.

"This is an honor to Mubas community. So I need support from my fellow students for me to be part of the team by just voting for me, " she said.

The General Secretary, Blessings Chiwaka has disclosed to PO that SRC is working on a complaint filed by some disgruntled Finales and Galantas over on-campus accommodation "mess."

The students are against their allocation to Ndirande and Nyika hostels which are considered as "inferior" for such high level intellectuals.

The final year students who are over 90 have since asked SRC to intervene on the matter with urgence so that the students should be given bed spaces in Mpingwe hostels.

However, speaking to PO, Chiwaka has indicated that the matter is in the pipeline of address.

It has been a culture at the university that those students in final year are given accommodation in Mpingwe, Kapeni and Hyrid hostels but this year things have gone with a surprise.

FINALES AND GALANTAS DISSATISFACTION WITH ASSIGNED HOSTELS SPARKS CALLS FOR MANAGEMENT INTERVENTION.

In recent hours, a growing number of students in fourth and fifth years have voiced their discontent with the hostels assigned to them by the university.

Complaints range from some finales and galantas being assigned in Hyrid hostel in which they will just live for a single semester. Not only that, but also some students in second and third year students assigned hostel seemed to be for finales and galantas.

One of the students in fifth year says that "The current hostel allocations do not align with their preferences or needs hence creating an uncomfortable living environment that can hamper their academic focus".

In response, students are urging the university management to address these issues hence ensuring that all hostels meet a basic standard of living/ allocation conducive to academic success.

The discontent among students in final and fifth years regarding the assigned hostels has led to a unified call for the university management to step in and direct students to more suitable living arrangements.

In a recent development of introducing the Bachelor of Laws (Commerce), management has officially disclosed the names of students who have been selected to pursue a program at the institution.

Speaking to PO, Victor one of the student in the shortlist says that "The release of these names reflects the culmination of a thorough evaluation process, underscoring the dedication of the management to ensure a fair and transparent selection procedure".

As part of the next phase, the selected students will undergo interviews from 22nd January 2024 in School of Engineering Main Lecturer Theatre from 7am to further assess their suitability for the program.

This interview stage serves as an essential component in gauging not only the academic qualifications but also the personal attributes and potential of each candidate.

Students are encouraged to prepare thoroughly for their upcoming interviews, showcasing not only their academic prowess but also their passion and commitment to the chosen field of study.
